NYC TKTS Booths for Broadway Shows

My BF is coming up Virginia next weekend and we're going to NYC on Sunday for the day - taking train from Albany. I'm thinking of getting there early enough to go to the TKTS Booth in Times Square on the off chance we can get tix for a 2 pm Broadway show somewhere.

A couple of questions for those in the know:

1. Is this a stupid idea?
2. What time does the booth open?
3. What time should we be in line before the booth opens?
4. Are there usually a lot of decent tix available for a Sunday matinee?

Also, if anyone knows anywhere good for either a Sunday brunch or an early sunday dinner, I would appreciate it.

Get there as early as possible for the best selection. Don't expect orchestra pit tickets. They only take cash.

I've never not been able to get tickets for a show, although sometimes my first,second, and even third choices were not available.

BTW--I grew up in Clifton Park--my mom lives in Country Knolls West and two of my brothers live in Calico Colony.

May I buy tickets in advance at tkts?
• tkts sells only same-day discount tickets. *At the downtown location only, matinee tickets must be bought the day before. For example, Wednesday matinee tickets must be bought on Tuesday; Saturday matinee tickets bought on Friday; and Sunday matinee tickets bought on Saturday.

Are the same shows sold at both tkts booths?
• Yes! Our ticket systems are computerized and both tkts booths draw from the same pool of tickets released by the shows’ box offices throughout the day.

Why do some shows have a 50% discount and others a 25% discount?
• The rate of discount is at the discretion of each production which sets the rate of discount for tickets released for sale at tkts.

Will I get the best seat locations if i’m the first person online when tkts opens?
• Not necessarily. The majority of tickets are released to tkts by the time we open, but productions may continue to release additional locations for sale throughout the day.

May I pay with my credit card?
• No. tkts accepts only cash and traveller’s checks.

Okay, imsorry - thanks for the print, I'm feeling stupid but having difficulty with the above quote? is this true for both booths or just the seaport one? If I can only get tix for sunday on saturday then it's a no go for us I guess.

You can get Saturday matinee tickets on Friday. You CAN get Saturday EVENING tickets (just not the matinee) on Saturday.

In times square see above times; you can buy Sunday tickets on Sunday - I have done this. You won't get GREAT seats, but usually not too bad. I would get there at least 1/2 hour before they open. There are so many places to eat - just walk around and pick one. HAVE FUN!!!

Depending on the show you want to see, there are many discount sites to pre-order seats- Broadway box, playbill etc. hope this helps

i've seen the line get really really long. so i agree, go early if you want tickets.

We love getting seats from TKTS ! Print out a list of all Broadway shows before you go and know which ones you would be interested in. Bring plenty of cash. As long as you're flexible, you should be able to get into something! Have fun!

ps - even if you don't get tix.... just enjoy walking around Times Square, or head up to Central Park for the afternoon. Sounds great!
