Was all set to go to Cite Grill on Saturday b/4 going to see Wicked - but just found out they are now closed for lunch on Saturdays....:(

Any suggestions for a good lunch with American/Hamburger fare staying withing walking distance of 52nd Street? Reservations needed?

Thanks!!

If you're just looking for Burger-type fare, check out Ellen's Stardust Diner....Not only do they have great burgers and really reasonable prices, but the staff are almost all performers, and they each do different songs while you're eating.

BTW...You'll love Wicked...Idina is incredible, but Kristen steals the show as Galinda ::yes::

A stretch of West 46th Street, known as Restaurant Row, due to the 23 dining spots lining 46th Street from 8th to 9th Avenue.

You can do a search on this area, they had lot of little pubs - restuarants with Broadway Show specials.

Have a "Wicked" good time. Hear the show is fab.

Carmine's on...either 46th, 47th, or 43rd. Make reservations.

Carmine's is great, but they want burgers, not Italian.

I second the vote for Ellen's. it's on 51st and Broadway.

And Carmines would have been booked months ago.

Ellen's it is....or ESPN zone...

You'll love Wicked....great great show. I saw it 2/15 and thought Idina Menzel was wonderful....great supporting cast as well.

There are two of them, I went to the one a few blocks down from the NY Public Lib not the Greenwich one..

It was FUN! Its more then lunch - its a show - a haunted 4 story english manor full of fun and the food was top notch. Everything is expensive in the city, even McDonalds - so you may as well make the most of it and have fun. -0-- this is not a place for a quick lunch tho.. no way.. you *want* to take your time !

Are you from out of town? Do you know about City passes? They are so well worth it. And you dont feel like a schlub when you want to explore the the museums and such but find the individual prices or suggested donations too costly.

PM me if you want.

Go to Ellen's...I used to work right around the corner and we'd go often. I miss it!!

Ahhhhhh.......Many years ago I went to Ellen's Stardust Diner.
As I recall, I think it was on an Entertainment 2 for 1 coupon.
It was delightful ! I also recall the fries were those cris-cross, almost waffle kind of fries. ( What do you call them ? )

It was wonderful, and I'm so glad to know that it still exists.

I posted this a while back, but I truly believe they ought to make a reality show out of that place ::yes:: They could show a few performances in each episode, as well as detailing the lives of the performers as they try to make it on the great white way....I'm serious, I don't understand why Bravo! or somebody hasn't jumped all over this....Somebody get Mark Burnett on the phone ! :teeth:

Thank you all for the suggestions! I really only know *garmento* restuarants in the 40's....not so much up DH's alley....and who needs the heavy food hitting somewhere during the 2nd act  .....hmm....just how greasy is Ellen's??? ;)

Glad to be sweating out lunch instead of the strike....

We went to Sardis before seeing The Boy from Oz and another day did Carmines...Both were fabulous!!!

Have fun!
