Can anyone recommend a good show for a group of girls in NYC? We are going in early December and already saw the Rockette's. Wicked's tickets are $165 each.:scared1: Any other good shows to go to in the afternoon?

I would SO totally spring for Wicked, expensive or not. I love, love, LOVED the traveling version we saw here last year and would love to see it in NYC. :lovestruc:cloud9::lovestruc

sometimes with your disney visa you can get decent discounts on mary poppins. phantom is usually at tkts. you could wing it and go to tkts to see whats there that day. also at this time of year you may want to go beyond broadway with the nutcracker or any opera (family circle is as low as $35 each).

How old? Memphis is great and Adam Pascal is on it now. You can find some discounts online at broadwaybox.com...

My sisters, mom, aunt, grandmother and I all went to see Mama Mia the last time we were in NYC for a girl's weekend. We had a blast!!!!

there are so many; How to Succeed in Business with Daniel Radcliff woud be on top of my list. Book of Morman is supposed to be very funny. Addams Family is great, saw it two summers ago. Mary Poppins is really fun. Memphis is really good. Billy Elliott is phenomial, I have seen it twice.
You might also consider American Ballet Theater's Nutcracker. There is nothing like a show in NYC.

Just FYI, the Nutcracker is by the NYC Ballet, not ABT (well, they choreograph a version sometimes, but it's at BAM this year, the traditional NYC Nutcracker is always done by the NYCB). Tickets will be about the same $ though.

As for what show, the Nutcracker (NYCB) is definitely a Christmas thing, and they do it right. The tickets are no cheaper than the Wicked you found, and probably more expensive, unless you're sitting high in the sky.

However - first, do you definitely only want the matinee?

Second, if you're open to stuff but don't want to spend a lot, just go TKTS and see whatever's available that day. Go to the one down by John St., NOT the one in Times Sq. A lot of times on Sundays you can get better PM tix in the morning but if you need matinee, you'll find something.

Or, splash out on Hugh Jackman, it's worth it.

There are 4 of us in our early 40's. Only going to be in NYC Tuesday and Wednesday.

Depends on what you like. War Horse is supposed to be one of the best shows in a decade or more. We are flying to NYC for the sole purpose of seeing the show so if you can see it then that is what I recommend it. (Was in the biz for many years so my sources are generally reliable.)

Mary Poppins, Lion king (awesome), Wicked is sooo worth the money, Memphis ( i would see this just for Adam Pascal..lol), The book of Mormon is supposed to be very funny....

Private Lives with Kim Cattrall and Paul Gross (of "Due South"). We saw a preview performance in Toronto this Oct., and it was a lot of fun.

As a PP stated-if you want specific discount tickets, go to Broadwaybox.com - Some shows with good discount that would be fun are Sister Act, Addams Family, HOw to succeed, and you can usually get something for around $80.

If you want to 'chance it', go to TKTS and get 40-50% off many poopular shows (tdf.org has a list of shows that were avalable the previous week) .

You will not get discounts anywhere for Book of Mormon, Lion King or Wicked.

Just saw Memphis this summer with my 2 sisters. We are all in our 40's. Absolutely loved every bit of it.

We got the discount tickets at the 1/2 off discount place right in Times Square (is it called TKTS). I'd pay full price to see it though.......it was that good!!!

Just saw How to Succeed in Business and Billy Elliott a couple of weeks ago and they were both great shows!

Going to see Seminar and An Evening with Patti Lupone and Mandy Patankin - which both have gotten great reviews.

Go to TKTS and see what they have and if you don't like any of them just go to the box office before any performance and you may be able to get great seats-we've done that a few times and really lucked out!

Billy Elliott- Best show we've ever seen. We liked it better than Wicked.

Rock of Ages isn't in the same league as Billy Elliott but we really enjoyed it- Great music and really a fun show.

The show that we are dying to see and will definitely see on our next NYC trip- The Book of Mormon.

If you don't have a show that you're dying to see and are more interested in saving money, I'll also recommend the TKTS booth. It's a good place to get discounts but only if your heart isn't set on a particular show.

Lion King and Mary Poppins

If you have a Disney Visa they almost always have discount codes

I've waited for years for Wicked discounts they just don't happen during the times I can go. For my dd's 14th bday all she wanted (for years) was to see Wicked, we are both Wizard of Oz fans. We absolutely loved it. I made it a Thur. night and show tickets were total of $130. Mezzanine side, seats were great, all seats seem fine. Skip the up front Orch. seats and try for front mezzanine.

Billy Elliot was another we were dying to see but it's ending in Jan or Feb I think.

We did a large girls outing to Mamma Mia. That's was a lot of funBut too. But we liked Wicked better.

Wicked is awesome. Expensive but so worth the money. In jan or Feb prices will be more reasonable but of course you risk the snow. Book of Mormon is more expensive than Wicked right now and they are booked solid with the tkts lottery being ridiculous still. How to succeed in Business is pricey again after the new year because of change of actor. Billy Elliot is a good buy as is Anything Goes and Mary Poppins. You can also get good tickets to Priscilla but that one can be slightly more racy eventhough my 17 dd had front row tickets to it and enjoyed it. That was through the tkts stand.
Have fun!
