NYC Restaurant Recommendation Needed

Could someone recommend a restaurant for 5 young girls to go to in NYC that requires guests to dress up?

My niece is turning Sweet Sixteen and she wants to celebrate her Sweet Sixteen in NYC. She will be celebrating with 5 of her friends, they will be going in a Limo.

She is a Vegetarian.

Any suggestions????

Oh, check happycow.net. It's a website listing (and reviewing) vegetarian restaurants. They mention a Candle 79 restaurant as the "upscale sister" of the Candle Cafe so maybe that would be better.

I don't believe her friends are. So I'm guessing any restaurant that offers some dishes, such as pasta, grilled vegetables, etc., should also be considered.

How dressed up is dressed up? I've found that even with very high-end restaurants, few people in NYC get "dressed up" to go to dinner any more. For instance, a restaurant like Jean-Georges requires jackets for gentlemen, but it's rather expensive and most women there are wearing simple dresses or nice sweaters, not semi-formal wear. (If she's really splurging, though, either Jean-Georges or Eleven Madison Park do a wonderful job making vegetarian meals for guests as long as they have advance notice that a veggie meal is required.)

If she wants to go a little less expensive and a little more casual - though still very nice, Dirt Candy (http://www.dirtcandynyc.com/) is a fantastic vegetarian restaurant that even carnivores love!
