NYC 2 day in June for insdie cabin for 2 adults $950. Are you kidding me? That's more than we spend for a week in WDW for a room. This is why we always end up on RCCL. I can't justify DCL's prices.

5 Day Canada inside $1500 in June

8 Day Bahamas inside $2500 in June

Anyone finding better pricing? For the 5 day price we could fly to FL from NJ and be on the brand new RCCL ship for 7 days in the Eastern or Western Carib in a balcony room. I LOVE disney, but that's just nuts.

Yes. RCCL it is.

Yup, new routes = whatever the traffic will bear. As long as there are people who will pay it, DCL will charge it.

I respectfully disagree

The price I am paying for the NYC - 8 day is not much more than what I was going to pay for a 7 day Western the very next day - especially considering it includes tickets and transfers to WDW.

My average per day cost on 7 day was about $542. Add one day hoppers for 3 adults (Disney retail of about $300), transfers from port to WDW to port (about another $250). This is about an addition $1,100 in "Added value."

Well the increase of this cruise over the 7 day Western is $1,100.

Now I don't disagree that the price of a DCL cruise is more than RCCL. We have considered RCCL - and are still considering it. I am just saying that the NYC cruise price is inline with the pricing of other DCL cruises.

the suite prices seem in line with what they have been charging lately

It's high compared to other cruises, but not high compared to the FL prices IMO. I booked for August 2012 for myself and 2 kids. $3,377.69, which I think is pretty good. Inside room, and we've never cruised before, but I've been wanting to go and couldn't justify the airfare, overnight accomodations to get to FL.

I do however agree that the 2 night cruise is a little high. But...it's $1,000 at Great Wolf lodge for 2 nights on a weekend and you don't get food!

But the room price at WDW does not include 3 full meals a day, all your snacks and entertainment. :)

I agree with MaverickMom.

I'm spending $287 per person per night on a 4 night Dream cruise this summer ($2300 not including airfare & 1 night hotel stay). The Magic is only costing me $219 per person per night in a 5B ($3500).

That's all for 1 adult & 1 child.

You are right this includes food and entertainment, but still it's just too high. We can't possibly eat that much in 2 days! Same as in FL, that's why we never choose them in the end.

Maybe they are in line with FL, but that's why it's too high imo. Sure I get to see Disney characters, but why should I be in an inside room when I can have a balcony for a lesser price with super quality service on RCCL? I'm always checking DCL hoping, but I can never justify it. We want to cruise with my sister and her 3 soon to be 4 kids in a year or 2, she laughed when I suggested DCL because of the price. She said she can't justify it either.

I was at least hoping that being in NYC there'd be a benefit for us in saving for not having to travel to get to the port, not so.

As to the 8 day with Park Hopper tix, I think it's a rip-off. You spend 2 hours or so on a bus to and from the parks and it's only 1 day, you can't hop much in one day to justify the added hopper price. It's not really a discount at all when you really think about it.

I'll continue to monitor NYC pricing, but unless things change, it's not for us. We'll either do RCCL or head to WDW again during free ddp.

This exactly. When we compared the price of the 8 night May 25 NYC cruise (~$2700 for two adults) to 7 nights at Disney (with room, tickets, food, and airfare), it is extraordinarily close in price. I think the key is to remember that yes, a room at Walt Disney World is much less expensive than a cruise, but the cruise is pretty much all inclusive. Tack on tickets, food, and airfare (especially if you have more than two people) to a WDW vacation, and you're getting up there pricewise.

Also, compared to the Fantasy prices or a B2B on the Dream (to make it an equivalent number of nights), the Magic is like a steal!

That math is really off.

A one day pass to the parks is $85, so the $100pp isn't that far off. But transportation is NOT valued at $250pp...no way.

When we did the Carnival Pride last summer from Baltimore, their excursion price to WDW during the Port Canaveral stop was priced at $159pp and that INCLUDED the one-day ticket to the park. That's a better benchmark price to use...

So the "added value is not even close to $1,100; its more like $480. And its really only a value if you actually want to go to the parks that day. If you'd rather not and want to go to Kennedy Space Center or Sea World or Universal, its going to cost you even more.

I agree, they are higher. ANd I am not sure what I am going to do, I am pricing other lines for the same time period, and am getting baclony cabins for cheaper. But the other lines nickel and dime you to death. It seems like you pay for this ice cream place and that place and that one and soda..etc... etc... It seems none ending of gimme gimme more money. Where as on DCL other then booze, adult restaurants and and some boxed nosh food at the movies, everything is included.

Also from what I was seeing on NCL and RCCL that the cabins that sleep 4, there are no bunk type beds. SO you have the queen/twins or sleeping on a convertible sofa (ICK ICK ICK).

Evidently, you missed out last October when prices on Disney were quite a bit less than other cruise lines.

We booked a 7-night Fantasy cruise on the first day of booking for June 2, 2012. The Oasis of the Seas doing nearly the same itinerary was $1,200 MORE than Disney leaving on the same day for the same room types! A few months later, Carnival opened up their itinerary and they have the exact same itinerary as the Oasis, but just leaving from a different port. They were actually about $175 MORE than our price on Disney for the same room types!

I am sorry that you waited to book as our Fantasy cruise has been so popular that many room categories are no longer available AND if they are available, the prices are a lot more expensive. Disney is now priced higher than either RCCL or Carnival, but had you booked early, you could have sailed on Disney for LESS than other lines.

Perhaps 2012 is not the year for you, but once the newness wears off, I am willing to bet that the prices will once again be in line with the newer ships from the other cruise lines. We have priced the Oasis 4 separate times in the past against Disney and found that it was more expensive each time. However, with DCL's popularity surge with its new ships, Disney is now more expensive.

And as PP's have pointed out, on a per-day basis, the New York cruises are currently less than the 4-night and 7-night Disney Dream and Fantasy cruises in June 2012. The 2-night is expensive IMO. We paid that same price for a 4-night on Disney last year in an outside stateroom.

Disney is a master at pricing for supply and demand. If they miss though, there will be discounts. Just keep watching - especially for last minute discounts.

We're paying 1850 this August for a 7 night southern caribbean out of San Juan.(2 adults RCCL) That does not include cab fare to and from JFK, air fare to SJ ($850), or cab fare to and from the port in SJ. So 2500 for the 8 nights sounds good to me.

At first I also had sticker shock at the prices of the 8 night out of NY :scared1: that is until I researched it a little bit.
I am looking at August 18,2012 for 2 adults and 2 kids in same cabin.
For purpose of comparison, the prices are for oceanview, lower deck unless otherwise noted, all taxes included, no ins, no transfers, no discounts.

DCL MAGIC August 17,2012 8 night Cat.9C $5830
for comparison ,deduct park hopper & transfer -$550
$5280

DCL FANTASY August 18,2012 7 night Cat.9B $4897
Add extra night $700
Add airfare 4 x $400 (Florida) $1600
Total $7,197

RCCL EXPLORER August 18,2011 (2012 not out) 9 night NJ
Cat.H ( oceanview deck 2 ) $5981
Less 1 day -$665
Total $5315

CARNIVAL MIRACLE August 18,2011 (2012 not out) 8 night NY
Balcony deck 5 $5272

NCL GEM August 18,2012 7 night NY OV deck4 $4002
Add extra night $570
Total $4572

RCCL OASIS August 18,2012 7 night FLL Cat BV $4377
Add extra night $625
Add 4 airfares 4 x $400 $1600
Total $6600

CARNIVAL DREAM August 18,2012 7 nights Port Canaveral
Cat. oceanview deck 2 $3153
Add 1 night $450
Add 4 airfares 4 x $400 $1600
Total $5200

Therefore, as you can see, the prices are not so outrageous. ;);)
For the 40,000,000 who live within a few hours drive of NY and don't want the hassle of flying with their luggage restrictions and fees and body scans...it's something to look into.

Tony, I agree with your analysis

The flaw with this analysis though is that the itineraries are not the same across the board.

The ONLY ship on that list that is a fair comparison is the Gem, because it is sailing virtually the same itinerary as the Magic is - Port Canaveral, Nassau and a private island.

The rest is comparing apples to oranges and not really a good picture, as preference for itinerary comes into play.

here are the prices for the Canadian cruises for 2A/2C (ages 10 and 12) as of 11AM today:

canada.jpg

I think they are high... but then again... the threat of hurricanes is less in NY in late summer vs Port Canaveral

All I know is that if I am spending over $9,000 for my family of 5 to go on vacation it better be nicer than just going to Florida and the Bahamas!

If I'm going to spend thousands with Disney, I would much rather take an Adventures by Disney tour than a cruise. Because at least it is more memorable and different. If I'm giong to cruise I'd rather do RCL or Carnival (their new ships are really amazing).
