We will be docking in NYC on Saturday, November 4, 2017 and need to get to Penn Station at the earliest possible time to catch a train. We have had something come up and we either need to make this work or cancel our trip! :( I do not want to cancel!!

How early do you think we can get off the ship and over to Penn Station?

Usually, we take our time getting off the ship and avoid the crowds on the back end of disembarking because we plan to take it easy on that day. In order to keep this cruise booked, we need to do things different this time. This is also our first time cruising out of NYC. Any help is greatly appreciated!!

Penn Station is a short cab ride from the Port Terminal, but just a reminder that there are no guarantees that the ship will disembark on time. We've had that situation with DCL before, so just something to keep in mind.

I am on the same cruise as you. We are beyond PIF so if you cancel do you have insurance? Are you taking Amtrak, LIRR or New Jersey Transit? what is the time that you have to be at your destination? Also, most trains will be on a weekend/holiday schedule. It is also NYC Marathon weekend so the city will be a bit more crowded. If you are going by Amtrak, I would make sure you have a ticket. I would also think of the latest time that would get me to my destination in time for what you need, then work backwards to the timetable of whatever train you need to make. NJ Transit and LIRR have multiple trains to areas around the metro area. The itinerary says that we dock at 7:30 AM, I would do the express walk off and catch a cab. You might have to cross the street to catch a cab, maybe the earliest would be about 8:30 AM. I think the only thing in your favor is that this isn't a repositioning cruise but a closed loop.

Thank you for your replies. Yes, we have travel insurance. We are traveling on Amtrak. I didn't realize it was marathon weekend! Yuck! It is very crazy there during marathon weekend. I was in NYC last year for that weekend. I didn't even think about that. Thank you for pointing that out. Hopefully, at that time and location, the marathon won't affect too much... Last year, trying to use NYC transit around Central Park was not fun! Everything was delayed.

We got off the Magic last year on marathon weekend and there were no problems. It was such a nice day we just walked over to Penn Station to catch the train to Newark Liberty airport. It was smooth, no issues, granted we never got close to Central Park.

If you don't have a ton of luggage it is walk-able and a very short cab ride away. I believe they dock somewhere as shown in pic. NYC.jpg

you can also call UBER and have it there when you get off.

I would just Uber from the port to Penn Station, easier than trying to get a cab, and that's a bit of a walk while rolling luggage

FWIW, I have found Lyft far superior to Uber in terms of service and driver attitude - especially in NYC.
