NYC photography tips needed

Hello! We are headed to our first-ever adventure in NYC in two weeks! :cool1: I will be taking my relatively new Canon SX40HS and am wondering if anyone has suggestions on how to best capture the sights and colors of this busy city. Especially Times Square in the day/night. I don't do the manual focus thing, but I'm great with trying new settings (already pre-set on the camera). Any suggestions or tips would be welcome!!!! If you want to capture street scenes, capture the people... "street photography" -- use a fast shutter speed. At least 1/250 if not faster.

For evening, night shots, some indoor shots, I'd get a gorillapod so you have an easy to use tripod.
