NYC MAGIC FEEDBACK: would you do GTY (category 5a, deck 7)?

Hi All,

I booked our second cruise — out of NYC, in November — while we were on our first Disney cruise at the end of last summer. It was right near "opening day," so I think our rate was good.

Today, I am debating switching our current stateroom (a nice Category 6A room on deck 5, but with a white-wall verandah) for a GTY with category 5a on Deck 7.

The price difference is $180 dollars.

I am kind of thinking that it might be a good bet, and that there's a chance we could possibly end up with a category 4 "family" room -- because the next category up from a 5a are the cat. 4, family-size verandahs, right? And if not, we end up with a perfectly nice 5a on deck 7. (The offer did specify deck 7.) Or are there some "lemons" among the 5as, that we should be worried about ending up with?

Any feedback? We've never been on Magic before.

Thanks, everyone!

I have been on Deck 7 midshp before they changed the classifications. And it was fine. We are in a 5b, right next to the 5a's on The Magic in November and it is all good. There is a good chance you won't get a cat 4, since most of the NYC cruises are selling out. So pick the category you will be most happy with.

For $180, yes I'd do it. We were in a 5B - Deck 7 on the Magic last summer (have a 5A - Deck 7 booked for October) and have been in a 5A - Deck 7 twice on the Wonder. It's our favorite deck on the classics. It's an easy trip via the stairs to the pool deck or the buffet, and only 3 or 4 decks from the MDR's and WDW theater - kind of centrally located. We also prefer to be higher, but not right under the pool deck - that can be noisy, depending on the location. We've never had a white walled verandah, so I can't speak to how big a deal that is vs the plexiglass.

All that being said, I would personally never want a cabin on deck 5. You didn't say how old your kids are, but having an older teen (an adult in less than a week :crazy2:) we avoid that deck unless we are heading to the Buena Vista theater. If you have younger kids, you might enjoy being that close to the kids clubs, but we avoid it.
