Plan to be in NYC this coming Tues/Wed to see all the Christmas lights but the forecast is calling for rain both days :(. Defeats the whole purpose of going. We don't have any show tickets or any other plans other than walking around and enjoying the decor. Maybe I will cancel.

I don't think you should be so down in the dumps.

I just checked the forecast and it ways rain possible. Not raining cats and dogs all say.

The temps look warm, so I don't think you should freeze.

I would recommend wearing knee-high rain boots (nothing worse than wet feet) and a huge umbrella and a rain jacket. I bet you would stay pretty comfortable.

I would also recommend getting a ticket for one of those double-decker busses that tour the city--the bottom portion is covered and you will get to see the major sites in comfort.

I hope you have a great trip!

Just go!! Like the previous poster said, wear rain boots and carry an umbrella and a raincoat (or buy a rain poncho at Duane Reade).

If it IS raining, you'll get to see all the beautiful lights windows, and giant snowflakes and the Rock Center Tree without worrying about crowds.

If it ISN'T raining, you'll still get to see everything just with more people around.

Enjoy!!!!!!!!

We just spent 4 days in NYC over Thanksgiving and it POURED down rain the first day. The suggestion for rain boots is great.:thumbsup2 Large puddles form at the curbs and it's hard to cross the street unless you can jump the puddles! I would not carry a huge umbrella but just a normal sized one. It's very hard to walk amongst the crowd with even a small umbrella. I can't imagine trying to navigate them with a large one. We also took the double decker bus tour on the rainy day and so did EVERYONE ELSE:headache:
If you sit up top you will be given a poncho but it is miserable. Everyone is trying to sit downstairs but of course there are limited seats and most of those tour buses have ads over all the windows making it difficult to see out of the lower level windows. Even with the rain we opted to sit up top for the first hour since we just could not see much out of the lower level.

The crowds were noticeably lighter on the heavy rain day. Except on the bus:lmao:

I agree you should go dressed for rain and enjoy yourself! Pop into a coffee shop or store when you need a break if it's raining or go to one of the wonderful museums for a few hours.

I would go back in a hearbeat next week if I could in any kind of weather:goodvibes

Good luck!

I am hoping our NYC day on the 17th ...our 23rd Anniversary is a nice day. :) We are going on a bus trip with my son's high school ..we live 3 1/2 hours from NYC. The tickets were purchased in mid Nov. so no matter what....we are all going. Come rain or shine!! Good Luck!! :)

Rain defeats the entire purpose of going? To look at window displays and a big, lit tree? None of which will be in any way affected by rain? Eh?

Hmmm, the middle of the week and posible rain? I say GO! It may be less crowded and you may even be able to see the displays and wander around the Christmas tree!

I was there yesterday (on a bus trip with family) we live close enough that our park and rides go into the city, but I'll tell you what, NEVER again! I will never go on a weekend around the holidays! It was so crowded you could barely move, crossing the street was like a cattle call, with the police telling people to hurry up get on the sidewalk! There was no place to go, and I had my 2 youngest with me! (It was their first time in the city, so they thought it was always like that, had fun anyway because they expected alot of people)

After saying all of that, the decorations were beautiful, but next year I will only go during the week!

Go. It will only diminish the crowds which can be HORRIBLE this time of year. Dress appropriately and you'll be fine.

go, the weather forecast may be wrong . Bring boots for sure and know where you are going to eat. We went once in the rain with little kids and we had a blast because we were prepared. Rain equals fewer crowds and nothing beats nyc at mass.

I disagree.

If you are close enough to NYC that you can easily cancel, I'd reschedule for when it isn't raining. Walking around the city in cold rain does not sound like a good use of time or money. If you had a bunch of indoor activities planned as well, I'd say go. But if the whole point is to be outside and you can change plans, I would.

I will be there too! We are heading down on the train for 3 days on Fri the 16th:thumbsup2 We love it there!!! On the 17th we plan to see Santa at Macy's in the morning then see all the store windows!
