Anybody know anything about this hotel? We left it pretty late, and when I called the reservation hotline this was the first one that came up. It's on 44th between 5th and 6th Avenue, I think. Is it nice? Will we be close enough to Times Square and the Broadway shows? Any restaurants nearby that are good? Thanks!!

It's very close to the action. It's an older hotel, but nice. Its rooms are very small though, even by NY standards.

We are a family of three, and the room is supposed to have two double beds. I think we'll be OK, since we're not planning any "room" time unless we are napping. Too much to see and do!!!! Any recommendations for places to eat or things to do??

The BBQ place Virgil's on 44th between 6th & Broadway is close and fun. The bisquits are awesome!

Stay away from the chain restaurants like TGIFridays or Olive Garden. I don't know why, but they don't taste the same and many of them smell bad/funny. :confused3

My favorite place for breakfast is Norma's at Le Parker Meridian hotel. The service is beyond horrible, but the food is worth the wait.

Have fun!

Another vote for Virgils :thumbsup2 and don't forget NYC's great museums if you have time. Enjoy Manhattan!

I don't know this hotel, but you definitely will be close to Bway theatres and Times Square. One of my favorite restaurants in the area is Cafe Un Deux Trois (good French bistro food with kid-friendly fare). Another favorite for my daughter and I: Serendipity 3 on the Upper East Side (good sandwiches, salads, and way too much to eat but oh so good ice cream desserts :thumbsup2 )

Things to do:
Another second for the museums (especially Museum of Natural of History and the Frick)
Take a ride on the Staten Island Ferry
Riding the tram from 59th Street to Roosevelt Island
My daughter loves going in the shops on Amsterdam Ave.

Have fun!

Carmine's on 45th, 46th or 47th...I forget which....in the 40's somewhere. Delicious Italian food.

Madame Tussaud's Wax Museum is in that vicintiy too.

If you have time, do a Circle Line tour....really nice and you get a lot of info/history. It's on the water near The Intrepid, which is also actually kind of neat...it's an aircraft carrier that you can tour.

Thanks, everyone!! Any suggestions about Chinatown? We thought we'd do a day there, a day in Central Park, and plenty of shopping (we'll be there five days.)

Dude, I am inclined to pop over and say HI while you are here. :) My advice on Chinatown is this: mosey down Spring Street just a little, and when you get to Spring and Mulberry, stop at LOMBARDIs and order VODKA SAUCE PIZZA.
Un-be-lievable. Once in a lifetime pizza.

When are you headed for NYC? If it is later in the summer, in Central Park, see if you can tickets for Shakespeare in Park (you can find out the shows being presented by checking out the schedule on the Public Theatre's website)

I used to take my daughter to the Central Park Zoo all the time when we lived there when she was a toddler. When we're able to get back to Manhattan, she still likes going to the petting zoo there.

If your family likes ballet, you could check out a performance of NYCB (New York City Ballet) at Lincoln Center. They should be finishing up their Spring season.

Also, if your schedule allows and you can venture pretty far uptown, hop on the IRT local (the 1 train) and go to the Cloisters (beautiful outdoor setting and lovely museum).

Oh, that would be fun!!!

Hmm, vodka sauce, with or without pizza, sounds like just the ticket for old Mom. Would 12 and 17 year old girls think it was good, too? :rotfl:

They will LOVE it if they are pizza people. Also, it's not fussy, and it's a good deal ... it'll cost you maybe $35 including sodas and salads, which is a tremendous deal for NYC.
