Has anyone heard from BD?? He doesn't leave until Saturday right?? Just wondering if he's home safe or stuck somewhere without power???

woo hoo power just came back on here on Long Island, but my folks in the city don't have it yet.

We lost power in NJ for about 1/2 hour. I was real surprised when I turned on the news and saw the extent of the blackout. We are flying out tomorrow morning. I hope Newark isn't too backed up.

I think BD is leaving tomorrow also because I believe he's staying at the Radisson with us. (at least he's on the list).

Best of luck to everyone in the northeast flying out on Friday, I hope everyone makes it. We've had no problems here in southern part of NJ.

well, hopefully everyone will be alright. we haven't lost power here (yet) Massachusetts is on a different "circuit" at least where I am (on the corner of MA/RI) so we're still on. Just hope everything in NY, Ohio, Toronto, etc, turns out ok...

I don't really remember the '65 power outage.... "Where were you when the lights went out?" Anyone remember that movie?? who knows, maybe they'll do it again.

Anyone hear from AnnMorin?? she's out in the western part of Massachusetts-- not sure if she's effected too.

Good Luck everyone, hope you're all OK.

Best wishes to everyone with the power outage who are traveling this weekend. We will pray for your safe and timely travel.

I don't remember '65 either (I was two!) but I remember reading that the birthrate spikes about 9 months after major blackouts.;)

MARK YOUR CALENDAR FOLKS!! Nine months from this date there will be an increase of births in the blackout areas. Hope all returns to NORMAL soon for all of you , and nobody misses their sailing date.:(

Hey Jeanny - we survived the blackout. It was a mess on the Island's roads but witnessed no displays of road rage. I guess everyone's xanax was handy...

"Buckaroo" will most certainly NOT be experiencing the birth of a brother and/or sister in nine months. Puhleeeeeaaasssseeee - I couldn't raise another child solo. Would rather sail on Carnival's rival - Sideshow...

Dinner consisted of a six pack. Yes, a six pack of italian ice we had in the freezer. Better than waiting for italian ice soup.

Gotta get ready to go. Wishing everyone the cruise of their dreams! Be back in about 11 days...

Have a truly MAGICal time, hope we run in to one another on the 23rd, as you're getting off the ship, and I'm getting ready to get on!!!

Power came back on in my part of Toronto at 3:45 after being out for almost 12 hours! Went for a quick drive at 7:30am this morning to see if I could get gas, and just down the street, the rest of our neighbourhood is still without power. They estimate that 50% of Toronto now has power back, but warn it will come and go throughout the day! My office building still doesn't have power so they cancelled work! YEah! So what might go bad after 12 hours in fridge/freezer without power?!

We came back on around 3:30am, went out at 4:15 yesterday. Luckily we have a gas barbecue so could still make dinner and our basement is finished so the kids could get some sleep where it was a little cooler. Like Jo-Anne said, it's suppose to go on and off today and maybe tomorrow. I don't remember '65 either (I was only 5!). You could see the stars and 3/4 moon really well last night - nice! Haven't attempted opening the freezer yet!

We lost power here for about 10 seconds (honest...just enough to trigger all of those flashing clocks). Towns to our west (there are no towns east, only ocean ;) lost power for a while. DS is a 911 operator for the county, and he told us that they were receiving cell phone calls from everywhere because their tower didn't lose power.

I remember well the blackout in '65. I couldn't imagine how people could ever manage to live without electricity for even a few hours, never mind a day or two! It didn't affect us, we lived in Jersey City which had all the power it needed, but it was very strange to see the skyline of New York totally dark.

We did lose power here for five days last summer after the big storm that hit the Jersey Shore on the eveing of August 2, 2002. It's really amazing how many things you take for granted every day that just aren't there when there's no power!

BD - where on LI are you?

We fared pretty well in Rockland County. Had light back on by 9:00pm. Like BD, we won't be celebrating any births in 9 months, but for different reasons. With a youngest of 15, I'm not ready to go back to diapers again. The next diapers I expect to see will be Depends.

The longest blackout I recall was an early October snowstorm when I was living in Dutchess County. The heavy snow took down a lot of power lines and trees, since they hadn't lost their leaves yet. Some people were out for as long as 10 days and had to use the IBM Country Club for showers and sch.

We finally got power back on there about 430 this morning, it was a long hot 12 hours! Luckily no food went bad since we really didn't have any in the house to go bad, I am in the middle of a kitchen remodeling so we have very little food here, we eat out alot!

We live in Ohio. We are in Akron we got ours back at 11 last night but some didn't get it till this morning. Cleveland is in bad shape. Alot of the city is out of water and they have issued no swimming in Lake Erie they had to dump sewage somewhere. Yuk!! Anyway I hope everyone gets to where they need to go this weekend. Alot of people have been planning trips for a long time. Good Luck everyone

Gometros - How funny! What a memeory! I was one of those people going to the IBM Country Club to shower. I believe it was Oct. 4, 1984.
