NY Weekend

Going to NY this weekend, staying at the Sheraton in the Times Square area. We're looking for a moderately priced restaurant to eat at. Something that has something for everyone. Just wondering where the locals go? Would you happen to know anyplace in the Littly Italy Area. Someone mentioned Aunty Suzies in Brooklyn. Anyone familiar with that place ?? Where it's located, etc. Open for suggestions.

One I've heard mentioned of in Times Square is TreColori? I believe. It is Italian.

I would suggest going to www.chowhound.com and clicking on Manhattan. You will find a wealth of info from people on there.

Give me an idea of a price and I can give you some ideas...one thing for sure is to make a recommendation if you go anywhere even moderately popular...the theater district gets very busy for dinner. I have a few places in mind...

Carmine's (family style Italian)
Becco (they have a 2 course prix fixe with unlimited 3 kinds of homemade pasta...best thing on the menu for sure!!)

Don't mind spending like $50-55 for two but not $100. If you know what I mean. Someone told me Auty Suzie's is great but it's in Brookly and not certain how far ? ?

Carmine's is great. Entrees are $20-25, but they feed at least two people. If it is just two of you, you could order a pasta and an appetizer or pasta and salad for less than $50. If you are going with a group, order several entrees and share.

We were just in NYC this past week and ate at John's Pizzeria. It was one of our most reasonably priced meals - about $60 for four of us (two adults, two kids) not including drinks at the bar while we waited. We ordered a couple of pizzas, an appetizer and a meatball parm sub. They also have several pasta dishes. The food was tasty, but I would recommend Carmine's over John's anyday!

I love Havanna Central. There is one right in times square area. There used to be gift certificates on Restaurant.com as well, $25.00 off $50.00.
It's cuban food and very good.

I agree with the Carmine's suggestion. Good italian food and right in the heart of the theater district. My only suggestion would be to make a reservation or eat a little later, maybe after 8pm, once the broadway shows have begun as Carmine's gets crowded.

I was there for 6 days last month. We had a great time eating at Ellen's Stardust Diner in Times Square. We also ate at two restaurants in Little Italy (but I forget the names. I'll try to look them up at work tomorrow on the receipts!) I also ate ate at the Bread Factory but that is more like "fast food" but REALLY good!

We've been to Ellen's Stardust many times and also John's as well. It may be between Camine's and Trattoria Trecolori- THANKs

Also, Lindy's is around the corner from the Sheraton and we love eating there - diner style with great desserts (we always share-that's how big they are). Carnegie Deli is around there as well.

Sardi's (a little further down) has great pre-theatre menus that are about $30-35 which include salad, entree & dessert. I like Carmine's but it's better to make reservations. Also, there a few good places down on 8th Avenue & 9th Avenue which are more of neighborhood type restaurants.

DO NOT eat at the TGIFriday's or Applebees around there - over priced & awful service.

Aunt Suzie's is in Park Slope Brooklyn, kind of a hike from midtown.

My favorite Italian restaurant in the Times Square area is Trattoria Daniela, on 8th Ave between 45th & 46th St. John's Pizzeria is also good, but I'd recommend going there after 8pm as well as it gets really busy with a pre-theater crowd.

I love Havanna Central. There is one right in times square area. There used to be gift certificates on Restaurant.com as well, $25.00 off $50.00.
It's cuban food and very good.

I ahve to 2nd or 3rd Havana Central. The mojitos are TO DIE FOR and the fod is incredible. We have been to all of the locations around the city and love them all.

I find Carmine's to be a bit expensive for what it is. And don't feel that the food is all that good. but it's a personal preference.

The original John's pizza is on Bleeker street and the yummiest italian bakery is right near by (Rocco's). Many people also like Ferrara's in little italy. Any of the places in little italy are good - just walk up and down the street.

Also, near your hotel - I'd recommend Junior's.

We made reservations at Trattoria Daniela, on 8th Ave between 45th & 46th for Saturday evening at 7:30.

I'm glad you're not going all the way to Brooklyn to eat.
There are so many wonderful restaurants in Manhattan! About every ten feet.
Lindy's is good food, the hotels restaurants weren't bad, Rosie O'Gradys had decent food. We ate at Sardi's and loved it. Food was pricey, but well worth it. Ask for the actors menu, they give a price break on it. We ate at a bakery in a mall near Columbus Circle, forgot the name, but it was horrible. I will also second NOT eating at any chains in Time Square. You'll feel robbed.
We've stayed at both Sheratons on 7th - liked them both. You can't beat the location, central to everything! We walked to the garment district for shopping, up to Central Park for a picnic, went to all the museums and Top Of The Rock. All walking distance. We took the train to Little Italy, China town and Yankee Stadium.
