Does anyone know what I should budget for tolls from NY State to Virginia beach for tolls?

Well let's see...$8 to cross a bridge from NY to NJ (using GWB as an example, northbound only).

Then around $6.50 to travel the length of the NJ Turnpike to the Delaware Memorial Bridge. (both directions)

Another $3 for the Delaware Memorial Bridge. (southbound only)

Delaware Turnpike I-95 $4. (both directions)

Maryland I-95 $5 (northbound only)

Baltimore Tunnel $2 (both directions)

I honestly don't know of any tolls in Virginia, so there may be some more.

But for those listed...add 'em up...and it comes to about $41 round trip.

Which way are you planning on going? The Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel will add $12 each way to your trip but save you time and most likely a headache.

I live in Norfolk and drive "home" (my parents house) to just north of Albany, NY about once/twice a year. The Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel will save you about 95 miles and makes the trip so much more enjoyable. Just watch your speedometer on Rte 13! There are a lot of small towns that are speed traps.

I'd say it's about $10-$12 from NY to the Bridge Tunnel (ie you completely bypass NYC and don't pay any of those pesky bridge tolls). The Del Mem Bridge is $3 Southbound, but nothing Northbound as far as I remember. If you add the tunnel, it's $12 more, and if you take Rte 1 instead of 13 in Delaware (which I HIGHLY recommend) that will add $2-$4 depending on if you're driving on a weekday or weekend.

Have fun making the trip! I know it well ;)

Yes we are going to do the tunnel. We are about 45 minutes north of Albany. Thanks for the info, exactly what I was looking for:)

Grew up in Clifton Park (from 0 - 18 years old when I ran out of NY for warm weather in VA ;) ). Hi sort-of neighbor! :wave2: Have a good trip down, glad I could be of some help :)

I suggest getting an EZ Pass. It is basically a prepaid account and is more convenient. Try this link: http://www.ezpass.com

Some info for you:
Some E-ZPass toll facilities provide all E-ZPass customers a standard automatic discount when they use the E-ZPass lanes. No special enrollment is needed to receive the automatic discount.

Frequent users and commuters can save even more money on E-ZPass toll roads, bridges, and tunnels that offer discount plans over and above the standard discount. These special discount plans may have residency requirements, vehicle occupancy requirements, time-of-day restrictions, or number-of-trips requirements.

Plans designated as tag specific means that each tag must be enrolled in the plan and must meet the specific plan requirements. Plans designated as account specific means that all tags on the account are automatically enrolled in the plan and the entire account must meet the specific plan requirements.

I just spent the weekend in Baltimore and having EZ Pass has saved me considerable time. I came down via 695 and then 301 and 17 thru Yorktown.

GL and have a wonderful time in Virginia!

Virginia has got some really great places that you can go to with your family to have a lot of fun. The beaches are excellent. The kids will love the beaches. There are many hotels in Virginia that are very cheap in terms of price but offer great service to customers.

I spent a lot of time in Norfolk last year. (thinking about moving down there in a few years). My son is a freshmen at Hampton University.

When we go down, we take RTE. 13.

If you get an EZPass, you also get a small discount for some of the major bridges (GWB). Love my EZPass!

I made the trip to White Plains N.Y. and back to Richmond VA in the past 48 hours. I stayed on all highways on the way up and spent $57 on tolls. So I looked up this post and took another way back to save money. It added a lot of time but saved me some money. From White Plains NY, go to Holland Tunnel and then turn left at the end of the tunnel onto NJ 139, follow that to RT 1. Take route 1 south to Baltimore MD, hop on 95 south in Baltimore and take it to Richmond (or past to VA Beach) =$1
