Hi,

I would appreciate your help with which airlines I should be looking at for the NY-Orlando leg of our trip (with a preference to not fly out of Newark).

Could someone please advise which airlines include checked baggage (being an international traveller we will have luggage) and which airlines allow you to select your seats - or give you the option to pre-purchase seat selection.

Thanks for your help.

I always fly Delta out of either JFK or Laguardia usually out of LGA only because I like the flight times better out of Laguardia. Delta lets you select your seat without a fee but they do charge for bags. Your other options out of JFK are Jet Blue, American, and many others. American and Jet blue let you choose seats American has baggage fees and on Jet Blue the first bag is free. You can use a search engine such as Kayak.com and put your travel dates and airports, when the flight options come up you can go to the individual airlines website and read the policies regarding baggage and seat selection.

If you are not airline loyal, I wouldn't adjust your search preferences to exclude airlines that charge for luggage. The reason I say this because you may find lower priced options pre-luggage that are less or similar to those who include the luggage.

The fact is, airline pricing is highly competetive and you can choose to operate your airline ala carte or all inclusive (or somewhere in the middle). If you go the latter, the fare you charge is going to be higher than the base fare of an ala carte, because you need to make up revenue lost without charging for those. For the former, you can offer a lower base fare and then allow the consumer to pick and choose what features/options they want.

Thanks tozzie, out LAX-JFK and MCO - LAX flights are with Deltas, so if we stick with them I will purchase the Delta lounge pass for the month. I have not tried Kayak.com so I wil try them out. Thanks.:thumbsup2

Thanks for the tip regarding the luggage, I had only been searching with the luggage included. Last time we flew out of Orlando we had 6 bags to check. Clothes in the USA are so cheap comapred to Australia, so how could we not make the most of the opportunity.:rotfl:
