NY for Thanksgiving Parade

Has anyone ever gone to NY for the Macy's Thanksgiving Day parade. I was thinking of driving up on Wednesday, staying over and doing the parade. Any reasonable (for NY) hotels near or along the parade route you may know of?? Looking for the logistics of attempting this trip. Thans

Any hotel on the "route" will be $$$ nearby might be a possibility.

We have gone a few times and while you need to get there EARLY! It's a great great parade. Only a NY kind of thing and really puts you in the holiday mood. It's always freezing. And after the accident a few years ago- windy means no balloons.

But we are thinking of braving it this year too. Just driving in the AM to hang out. then back home to make dinner! (might be hot dogs lol)

Also I have never been the balloon filling the night before is supposed to be magical.
