Nutritional info easily available?

Hey all! We’ll be traveling to WDW 1/2-1/9. DS19 is bodybuilding and, as such, pretty closely monitors his nutritional intake. He has a pretty good sense of what foods to eat and what to avoid, but it would be great to find something that gave him at least calorie counts. Is this available anywhere online? If not, does Disney make this available anywhere else?

As an aside, we’re staying at POR and have already figured out that we won’t have a gym - trying to figure out that one, too.

We appreciate any ideas - thanks!

Ugh - that’s so disappointing. I remember Disney being so accommodating if anyone needed to alter their choices at table service restaurants. You’d think they would make this easy, too?

I have a friend who is a professional bodybuilder AND a Disney fan (used to be a cast member). He has said it's pretty much impossible to keep control at WDW, but he sticks to low-carb, fish, etc., when he's in training for a competition. Maybe your son's coach, assuming he has one, can advise, esp if you pull a few menus for examples. Perhaps he can use bands & inflatable/water weights for training, just not to lose too much ground. POR is also great for running, just for stamina. Sorry!

Thanks for this! That’s the conclusion we’ve come to as well. He’s going to just watch what he eats and try to plan strategically - I printed up menus for the restaurants where we plan to dine so that he can figure things out as best he can. For exercise, he’s going to do tons of pushups to keep the blood circulating, and take my exercise bands as well. I respect his dedication, but he’s also realized that sometimes you have to be flexible. Good life lesson, too, I think. 😊

Agreed! If he sacrifices every WDW experience to bodybuilding, he will ultimately regret those decisions. As you say, it's about flexibility. I hope you will let us know how it goes for him. 💪 I hope you all have fun!

For the most part Disney food is full flavored. High in fat and high in sodium.
 
Maybe plan for breakfasts rather than lunches you can get eggs fruit and bagels lots of places and signature restaurants may be better for the evening as they have loads of fish and meat options that can be adjusted.

They say one thing in their "calculator" but its drastically off from reality because the cooks and servers don't follow the prescribed amounts. They give a little extra here or little extra there and your 700 calorie meal is 1000+ now.

Yup you need to just go based on what you know about food in general. Additionally they can make requests regarding preparation possibly if they are trying to avoid things like butter.

That’s not really how it works; they can’t do a little extra here and there. All the ingredients are portioned out and, at most places, individually packaged per batch. The official numbers should match reality. It’s the McDonald’s method of brand standards; it’s all made the same way everywhere with tight controls to ensure the employees can’t screw it up.

It happens but everything I go off of is other people talking about it in restaurant forums and nutritional forums. Its been like 15 years since I stepped in a restaurant kitchen so I dont really use that as reference at this point.

So you bring up McDonalds as a very specific instance but they also are known for prepackaged ingredients, not an actual kitchen, with actual food in back.

I can bring up a counter point: go to dominos and it will be all over the place possibly, hit up your local steakhouse and even the cuts are going to be all over the place based on the fat to meat ratio (and if you indulge on the fat).

Any place you are not cooking yourself and are not prepackaged ingredients you should be cognizant of the nutritional information not being exactly accurate.

Heck even places like sub shops that try to train people on correct pours of oil have issues because new people come in, people don't catch on, ect.

One final note with anything not proportioned but is a scoop if you bake at all you will know this can throw off the total volume of what you are potentially getting. A scoop can be very packed full or not leading to measuring things by weight instead.

Your biggest culprit as well can be oils and butters which I suspect are free flowing in many of the recipes. If you add butter 3 different times during a cooking process (prep pan, middle of cook, finish) and each time you end up with 1 tsp extra that is another 100 calories in the dish. (Most people will find the food better in the end so this slightly additional add to the pan would never come back like say too little butter leading to a lack of intended flavor)
