Just wondering if anyone knows if certain countries had nut-free chocolate candy/treats to purchase in their gift shops in Epcot. My ODS is a huge chocolate fan, but he's also allergic to peanuts, tree nuts, and eggs. The child LOVES Hershey's bars and Rolos b/c that's about all the chocolate he can have here in America. I know that Canada carries more allergen free chocolate than we have here in the states, and I was wondering if it were true for the other countries represented at Epcot as well. So, have any of you ever purchased a nut-free chocolate treat in any of the countries in Epcot? If so, tell us all about it!

you might want to read packaging on the Hershey bars as most chocolate has the warning about nuts even if it is a plain chocolate bar. that is true with the chocolate made in our town, not Hershey

We simply do not trust the labeling on the products imported from other countries. We know what the laws on labeling are here in the US, but have not clue what these are in other places and the language is not always in
English. We stick to the US companies we trust.

We have never tried to purchase chocolate as a snack. (DS's allergen list makes us just take for granted things aren't safe) If you happen to be eating at Biergarten, they have given us Enjoy Life chocolate bars before- they are also dairy free, but made in a nut free facility. We like them, if he is really into chocolate it wouldn't hurt to try if you are already there.

My DD has peanut and tree nut allergies and the chocolate in the gift shop in the UK is the highlight of her EPCOT experience! You do have to read all of the labels but they have a nice selection. They have the KitKats and Aero bars we order from Peanut Free Planet.

In the countries, we avoid almost everything because we are unfamiliar with the labelling laws in each country. The UK and Canada both have labels we can trust to declare allergens in their products, but they may not declare traces or shared facilities. Canada may have some treats with our 'peanut-free' emblem on them, but be forewarned that this DOES NOT guarantee the items are nut-free as well. You may want to visit Sunshine Seasons in the Land pavillion and stock up on the Enjoy Life chocolates they have there.

We traveled to Canada last summer and I had a lot of trouble with packaged snacks because they are not required to disclose what type of oil they use. They do have a peanut free sign on some products but the unknown oil issue made me very hesitant with the packaged snacks. I personally don;t do the UK chocolates because it's not clear on cross contam. Everyone is different on what they trust....

I am allergic to Tree nuts (In particular hazelnut). I can eat Peanuts and Cashews. I avoid all chocolate from Germany and Belgium as it has Hazelnut fluff in it. The actual countries not the Epcot countries. Every nut allergy is different. I can eat almonds for instance.

Just my 2 cents about Hazel nut fluff...

UK usually has a good selection of pn/tn allergy safe chocolates. They have good labelling laws and we've never had a problem. When something might have cross-contamination issues, they will often label it as not being suitable for peanut and/or nut allergic rather than the manufacturing/processing warning we see here. My kids like the Aero bars and Buttons, but they don't always have them.
