Hi all

This is my 3rd Disney cruise but 1st with a toddler.

I see that I can book my toddler into the nursery while we are in port (Tortola and st Thomas). Can I really leave him onboard while I get off??

I’m not really comfortable in this BUT it did get me thinking.

How do they contact you if you’re off the ship and there’s a problem?

Thanks all!

Yes, you can leave a child onboard while you debark in port. People often do it with either the nursery or the Club/Lab. You can leave a cell phone number, but whether a call actually could be received depends on your provider as well as service reception at various points while off the ship. You would need to be comfortable with the potential for not being reachable, or even if reached that you couldn't get back quickly. Though the likelihood of an issue arising is low, you still need to be comfortable with the situation.

Enjoy your cruise!

On Castaway Cay you can use a wave phone but on another port it would have to be cell phone. The bigger problem is the time lag getting back to the ship if you are on an excursion--so I would only consider it if I was just going to walk around the port area and be in a position to get back on the boat if something went wrong.

Going to respectfully disagree that the likelihood of an issue arising is low. We've only gone on two three-day cruises been called to pick up our kids from kid's club or nursery multiple times. With the nursery, I was pulled out of the spa (I told them where I would be) to come get him due to him just being inconsolable/total freak out and they were afraid he would hurt himself (he loves his day care at home, but I guess being separated while in a new place was too much for him on that particular day). With the kids club, one of my older sons age 6 at the time was hurt when another overexciting kid shoving him and he crashed into something, getting a nasty cut, so I was called to pick him up. You are also required to come pick up any time any time they ask to leave, which happened probably 5 or 6 times over our 3-night cruise for a combination of my three kids and usually resulted in me trekking there only to find out they changed their mind and wanted to stay, but you still would be in violation of club rules if you did not come to pick up a kid when requested to do so by staff. Not sure if there would be any repercussions of not complying, but I didn't want to find out.

Thank you for this. I def wouldn’t book an excursion, I am worried about even leaving the ship without him. I’m def going to try it onboard and try and get an hours peace at satellite falls 😂 fingers crossed he’s ok and likes it but I will be worried the whole time he’s away from me. 😊
