Numbness of Forearm?

Yes. I know, go see a doctor. I tried to make an appointment today but had to leave a message and they never got back to me. I will try again in the morning.

Last night I noticed my forearm was numb. Feels like it does when you get Novocain. I didn't think too much about it until I woke up and it was still this way. Nothing else hurts, nothing else is numb, just my forearm.

Has anyone had anything similar happen? Any insight or advice? My greatest concern right now is that it is my right arm and that it goes down into my hand.

Do you spend a lot of time on the computer? Could be carpal tunnel. I get it bad when mousing a lot but it's mostly pain and I have to stop for a while.

I am on a computer a lot. I didn't think about Carpal Tunnel. But now that you mention it I did have some wrist pain in the last week or so. But also some upper arm discomfort as well. Now I am curious if it is all related.

Did you bang it on somthing? If you hit a nerve it can take a while to heal (a long while). It may be related to the pain your were having and you pinched a nerve somewhere. Sometimes nerve pain feels like a burn. Anyway, if it pserists you might want to see someone. A round of steroids can help if it's minor. You might need a brace to help too, especially if you use the computer a lot. Good luck with it.

I plan to get seen tomorrow, assuming it is still happening. Unfortunately, we don't have an urgent care so I may have to travel an hour to get to the nearest one. (Joys of living in a rural area).

I don't remember banging it but it is very possible.

Is the numbness on the pinky side of your forearm or the thumb side? I'm dealing with the exact same thing after waking up to numbness from my elbow to my wrist on the pinky side. I've had carpal tunnel surgery on this arm many years ago and they do not believe my issue is the carpal tunnel, but a different nerve that I can't remember the name of. My surgery will more than likely involve a back/neck surgery to fix what I have going on. Mine apparently has nothing to do with the carpal tunnel at all.

I have pain that rests in my elbow, back and shoulder along with the numbness. Make sure whoever you go to you describe your symptoms well so they can look for the correct treatment options. My initial visit involved them thinking I had an issue with my ulnar nerve again and that wasted a few weeks of treatment before we're finally getting things pinned down better to the correct problem. Good luck!

That sounds like a pinched nerve in your neck - that can radiate down to the pinky side. I had that recently.

I can't remember the name of the nerve and the paperwork is at the physical therapists that has it listed. I do know I'm going to see the spine doctor for treatment options instead of the arm/hand surgeon they initially sent me to. It's been numb and achy for several weeks now. I'm just ready for it to be treated and over.

I'm occasionally getting a slight tingling/burning sensation on my forearm, topside, on the side of my thumb/index finger. It is about 4-5 inches down from my wrist. It will bother me for a day or two, go back to normal, and then come back. I'm pretty sure it's carpal tunnel, computer use related and no, I haven't seen anyone for it.

I get that all the time when I lean left or lift something too heavy, even too much salt can cause enough sweling and if I lean the other way it gets relief so I suspect I have a pinched nerve somewhere.

Of course get checked, maybe ask for that heart attack bloodwork to make completely sure it's not one of those weird, "Women's bodies do oddball stuff with heart issues," situations we need to deal with, my pinky goes numb too.

Sounds like carpel tunnel, or you strained your arm whether you realize it or not.
Could have even happened in your sleep.
I wouldn't be too concerned about it.

I periodically experience this. Dr. said it was likely carpal tunnel. I wore these wrist braces for a while that helped, but they made typing challenging. It improved once I switched departments and my typing demands decreased.

It is on my thumb side and kind of goes across to the opposite side if I draw my fingers down my arm. Specifically the underside of my arm.

There is really no tingling or burning. Mostly just an odd feeling, especially if when touched. Just like your face after you've gotten novocain for a filling.

Yeah, I understand. I think the point I was trying to make is that these symptoms (mine and yours) are all on a spectrum of nerve involvement. I think that's what the numb feeling is in your case.

I'd imagine the first step they'll do is the EMG test to determine nerve/muscle issues. That will more than likely give them the details they need to let you know what's going on and what options you may have for treatment.

I just called and couldn't get into my doctor until August 26th. They scheduled me with another doctor but can't get in there until Tuesday morning. Now I am wondering do I just wait until I can see that doctor or try the Urgent Care an hour away.

I agree, I do think it is a nerve issue.

My daughter was freaking out because it can also be a sign of a stroke.

I honestly don't think an Urgent Care will have that testing equipment needed to properly test for what is wrong. They'd be able to do xrays and such, but I doubt they'll tell them much. I don't want to tell you what to do, so do whatever you think is best for you.

Honestly, unless you are acutely ill or have broken something, urgent care is going to be a waste of time for something like this.

I know it's worrisome and I can be a hypochondriac, but I'd assume it's some sort of carpal tunnel/inflammation, rest the arm until a Tuesday appointment with your doctor.

That's the first thing they did with mine was make sure it wasn't a heart attack or stroke. If you feel more comfortable confirming that then I'd go to the urgent care just for comfort.
