OK, my parents are DVC members with BLT as their home base. We have a vacation planned for this Oct, 15-23rd. At the 11 month point, they reserved 2 studios, LV, at BLT. At the 7 month point they tried to get a 2 BR villa at BWV, knowing that it would be near impossible since food and wine plus MNSSHP are going on. They were put on a waiting list, and yesterday received written confirmation, without asking, that disney put them into a 2 BR villa from Oct 15-20. Then Disney cancelled the BLT reservation, and BLT is sold out at the present time. DVC wants to split our stay and put us at Animal Kindom for the last 3 days. Nobody really wants to split our stay, pack everything and unpack again at animal kingdom. We are not fans of having to take a bus everywhere from there. We are on a waiting list for the last 3 days, but thats a crapshoot. Any advise here? Is this normal? Anyone had the same dilema, how did it work out? Is splitting a stay as much of pain in the rear as I imagine? Thanks for any/all input.

Anita

Sounds like they may not have done the waitlist for the full length? Did they do a wait list for certain days?

I agree -- there is missing info there. I don't believe Disney would take an entire wait list (for 7 days say) and (1) give the member 3 of the days when they became available and (2) especially not put the member in a different resort than their original reservation for the balance of the days.

Sounds like some kind of a miscommunication when your parents were asking to be put on the waitlist.

Also, for the future - you don't get asked again if you want it when you are on a waitlist - your original reservation is cancelled and you are put in the new one if your entire waitlist becomes available.

We did a split stay last summer and I liked it. We are doing it again this summer--3 nights at BCV and then 3 nights at BLT.

I am sorry it happened, but what it sounds like the wait list was not put in correctly and that it filled for the wrong dates.

I do wish that there was a way for MS to send out wait list information in writing so that there is a record of what was done. This way, a member knows for sure and can call MS if it is wrong.

Good luck!

Have your parents call MS and ask to speak to a supervisor. They may be able to bring up the recording of the telephone conversation when the WL was requested. If the error was made by the CM, DVC will put your request to the top of the WL so that they can fix it if at all possible. Best of luck -- Suzanne

Split stays are okay, I don't mind them at all! It just gives you the chance to see and experience more resorts in one trip. My DH doesn't mind so much either but he's less enthusiastic about it than I am...after the last 3-resort stay (VB, AKV, and THV) he is limiting me to ONE move per trip. What's up with that?:confused3 But I do have to agree, moving does take up a lot of our precious DVC time so I will probably go along to keep him happy.;)

They should not have matched the wait list unless they were only looking at the shorter period. If they did it incorrectly (they can go back and listen to the call if need be), I'd ask them to make it happen for all of the time at BWV and/or ask for compensation. I'd be nice but firm. The question is who was ultimately at fault.

I personally don't like split stays. I feel like I can't relax till I am unpacked at my "final destination" I want to like split stays, i like the idea of split stays but I don't like them. I would call ms and see what they can do for you.

ITA. Thanks for saying this so well.

Yeah, that definitely doesn't make sense why the partial waitlist came through - - my understanding of waitlisting was that your full vacation either came through or it didn't. Hopefully your parents can get to the bottom of what really happened.

As to your question about split stays, I think with a longer trip (12+ days) that I wouldn't mind a split stay, but I would hate the hassle of changing resorts mid-stay for a shorter trip. Still, I'm sure that it will be doable, and you might actually end up liking the change of pace at AKV...? Either way, best of luck to you and your parents! :goodvibes
