Welcome to the Goviers' Trip Report. This will just be a brief (ha! Soon you will come to understand that brief is not a word I am well acquainted with!) introduction to the characters (thats us!) and a few of the plans we have for our three week extravaganza to Florida.
The Six in question are:
Karen (Miffy2003) If youre reading this far you probably already know me, if not in person, through the boards. If I was a Disney character Id be Tigger! Not because of my stripey hair, but because I tend to be energetic and have lots of energy and enthusiasm. I love Disney and am now at the so excited I can hardly breathe stage. Mind you, that could be down to my cold.
Jon (Disney_Jedi_Jon) Veteran WDW visitor with his first trip in 1980 and he remembers Epcot being built. The smarmy fellow! Still, reader, I married him. Jons trip to WDW is not complete without at least 58 rides on Star Tours and has his eyes well and truly focused on a full size replica light sabre from Tattooine Traders. Does anyone remember when this shop was Endor Vendors? If Jon could meet Jedi Mickey I think his life would be complete.
Amber 8 years old and with the moost active imagination I've evr come across. Her ambition for this trip is to get through an entire fortnight at WDW without sampling any ride or attraction more scary than the Country Bear Jamboree. Mind you, thinking about it that is pretty scary! Is looking forward to lots of character interaction and has her heart set on a Space Mountain toy. Now, if someone could explain to me why a child who would never, no how, no way go on this ride would want the toy, Id love to hear from you!
Erin 5 years old and Minnie Mouses number one fan. Her list of different Minnie items she wants to buy is now taller than Cinderellas Castle, and believe me she intends to track each and every one of them down, or there will be trouble!
Grandma Julie Jons mum and a many time visitor to America and WDW. Has not been for over 10 years though and never with her grandchildren. Is very excited and cannot wait to try out rides that are new since she last went (we are hoping to get her on Rock N Roller Coaster just to hear her scream!)
Grandpa Derek Jons dad, like Julie has visited many times but never with his grand daughters who are the proverbial apple of his eye. It is his lifelong ambition (really) to be lifting them up to see Cinderellas Castle as the ferry boat approaches the Magic Kingdom. So its quite cool that he is going to get to do this.
We are flying out with Virgin, staying in All Star Movies for a fortnight on 9th December. We then head down to Sarasota for a week to relax and recuperate after 2 weeks hard core touring. We then are going back up to Orlando for December 30th and New Years Eve; this is another of Dereks ambitions, to experience New Years Eve in Orlando. Best of all, although Derek & Julie think we are staying at the Holiday Inn Nikki Bird on the 192 for these nights, we have actually booked Saratoga Springs and are extremely excited about this. It will be our first trip home to our new Disney Vacation Club resort. We think there may be tears when we arrive there as we are planning on keeping it a total surprise until we check in. The tears you hear may be me, due to the number of points its taking to stay in a 2 bedroom villa on a Friday night in the most expensive time of the year. But we are totally happy to spend the points on this, and to share the experience with Julie and Derek who probably wont be back to Orlando again. Mind you, I think weve all said that at one time!
I have got quite a few missions to fulfil:
1. Send Mandymouse 2 postcards, and then she will let me win the quiz, despite not being here to take part
2. A shopping list of assorted sundry goods from around WDW from various people. How cool is that I get to be a professional shopper in my favourite place!
3. Take many photos for various Disboards members!
4. Try Sams Club in Orlando like WalMart but even cheaper!!! Yes, really. This has been recommended to me by a very reliable source!
5. Order fried okra and chicken fried steak, with Sawmill Gravy on the side in a Cracker Barrell, in a suitably Southern style. Let me tell you though, Scarlett OHara Im not!
6. Use my BOGOF Ghirardelli voucher. Well, it would be rude not to.
7. Go to Chillis. I need to try this for myself after many nights of salivating over my keyboard when reading Anzs meals there.
Now, I am looking forward to this holiday like you would not believe. Actually, I bet you would as if youve read this far youre probably a Disney fanatic like me! However as with any exciting experience (this trip was two years in the planning) there are some undeniable highlights that I am particularly looking forward to. These include:
1. Meeting Allie5 and her family at various intervals throughout the holiday. Weve pencilled in pre-flight drinkies at Gatwick, we have a Wishes Cruise booked (thanks, Allie!) and are also meeting in the Rose & Crown with Anz & Andy (MsPennieLane & husband) on 19th December.
2. Staying at All Star Movies. Weve not stayed onsite before last time we were at a Howard Johnson, so you can imagine what a highlight this is for us!
3. Staying at Saratoga Springs. No further explanation necessary!
4. Meeting up with a few Disers for a Drinking round the World session at Epcot. Deb & Matt, Kev & Tammy, we are looking forward to this! This is one of the advantages of travelling with the in-laws as they are very kindly babysitting for us.
5. Mickeys Very Merry Christmas Party wow, snow on Main Street and Christmas shows and parades. Does it get any better than this? Erin thinks this is called Mickeys Merry Merry Christmas Party which I actually think has kind of a ring to it.
6. Candlelight Processional, with dinner at Le Cellier. Ive been wanting to eat here for a long time, and combined with the CP package this seemed the perfect opportunity!
7. Segway Tour around the World Showcase. Hopefully I wont fall off or make a complete fool of myself, but if I do with a bit of luck nobody will remember by August.
8. New Years Eve in Epcot!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Im going to let the exclamation marks speak for themselves.
There are a few lowlights too, but I'll try to make the best of it
1. Im going to try and drive for the first time. Im hoping it will be as easy as everyone says!
2. Over three weeks with the in-laws. I hope we are all still speaking in 2005!
3. Last but not least, no Beavertails
Well Ive hardly started what I wanted to write (told you I couldnt be brief!) but as I am now neglecting my packing in order to write this I had better say adieu and see you all in 2005
