Gary Rossington, the last living original member of Lynyrd Skynyrd, has died.

He was referred to as "Prince Charming" in the classic Skynyrd song "That Smell" from their last Album "Street Survivors".

The story of Gary and Lynyrd Skynyrd is amazing-through hard work they went from almost starving to one of the top Bands in the World.

Gary's opening Guitar work on Free Bird is iconic.

He also shines on Tuesday's Gone which I will now listen to in his memory.

RIP Prince Charming

I heard an interview a few years ago where he talked about surviving the plane crash. I don't recall all the details but it seems he literally crawled from the wreckage to try to find help.

Sad news, the song Simple Man is a favorite. Hmmm, I imagine this would be a better fit at funeral services.

Nice to see Gary's life receiving National attention.

CBS Evening News is doing a report.

I thought that was the drummer, Artemis?

You are probably right, I was not a big fan but I heard the story. I think there may have been a book???
It was Artimus Pyle.

Gary had the following injuries:
Both arms broken
Broken leg
Punctured liver
Punctured stomach

The Crash shouldn't have happened.

They had seen flames shooting out of one of the engines on a previous flight, but the Pilots assured them everything was fine and they could get it checked out at a later date.

It was a very old Plane-Aerosmith's manager had looked at it and passed on a possible leasing.

That Thursday was an off day-they were to fly from Greenville,South Carolina after doing a Wednesday show there,to Baton Rouge,Louisiana for a Friday show at LSU.

Some did not want to board the Plane in Greenville-Cassie Gaines was so scared she considered riding in the equipment truck.

But they were young and that "peer pressure" kind of kicked in and they all boarded.

I have often wondered what it must have felt like to have seen the Greenville show and then find out about the Crash the next day.

Likewise what it felt like to have tickets to the LSU show and find out about the crash.

Thanks for clarifying!
No problem.

There are several books about Skynyrd that are worth reading.

It is a fascinating story.

They starved for 7 years and were finally discovered by Al Kooper and signed to MCA records.

To show how "tough" Ronnie could be he wrote a song called Workin' For MCA that they debuted at a Showcase for MCA Executives at a Club in Atlanta early on in their relationship warning MCA not to screw them over.lol

(Al Kooper is Mr. Yankee Slicker)

Seven years of hard luck, comin' down on me
From the Florida border, yeah it's up to Nashville Tennessee
I worked in every joint you can name, mister every honky tonk
Along come Mr. Yankee Slicker, said' "Maybe you're what I want"

Want you to sign your contract
Want you to sign today
Gonna give you lots of money
Workin' for MCA

9,000 dollars, that's all we could win
But we smiled at the Yankee Slicker with a big ol' Southern grin
They're gonna take me out to California gonna make me a superstar
Just pay me all of my money, mister maybe you won't get a scar

Want you to sign your contract
Want you to sign today
Gonna give you lots of money
Workin' for MCA

Slickers took my money, since I was 17
If it ain't no pencil pusher, it got to be a honkytonk queen
But I'll sign my contract baby, and I won't you people to know
Every penny that I make, I've gotta see where my money goes

Want you to sign your contract
Want you to sign today
Gonna give you lots of money
Workin' for MCA

Lynyrd Skynyrd is going to carry on.

At one time it was agreed they would end the Band when no original members remained.

Great news for lovers of the Skynyrd songs.

They are doing a video tribute to Gary during Tuesday's Gone.

The Freebird keeps on flying!

The CMTs are having a Tribute to Lynyrd Skynyrd Sunday night.

The Tribute is in celebration of the 50th Anniversary of Skynyrd's first album and as a Tribute to Gary.

The Tribute band will do 2 songs.

The lineup is:

Cody Johnson-Vocals
Paul Rodgers-Vocals
Billy Gibbons-Guitar
Slash-Guitar
Warren Haynes-Guitar
Chuck Leavell-Keyboards

Le Ann Rimes and Wynonna Judd will be "The Honkettes" and Nashville Musicians Ethan Pilzer and Rich Redmond will be on Bass and Drums.

I predict they will do "Tuesday's Gone" because it is one of the songs Gary is most known for and Free Bird because of Gary's iconic Slide Guitar work at the start of Free Bird and,of course because it is one of the most famous songs in Rock history.

If Free Bird is performed they will blow the roof off because that lineup definitely consists of world-class Musicians.

Johnny Van Zant,Rickey Medlocke and Dale Krantz Rossington will attend.
