Now that Iran is starting to threaten the West by witholding oil, should we reconsider drilling more of our own oil? How high do gas prices have to go before we drill our own oil and build more refineries?

The need for us to find our own energy and oil sources is inevitable. Pardon the pun, but they have us over a barrel and they know it. We really need to make this a priority.

Yes, yes, yes, EVERYONE knows we should get renewable energy. That's a wonderful goal. But that's a ways off and even if something appeared tommorow, we are still going to need gasoline for a long time!

Absolutely and it shouldn't matter what we pay at the pump as a deciding factor. We should be recovering our oil anyway.

I agree that the price of oil should not dictate the decision for the US to finally be dependent on ourselves for supplying our own energy needs.

There's the real problem -- find all the oil you want, but if there's no additional refinery capacity, it's not going to do any good. How do you propose having more refineries built? Government funding? Too many people complain already that the oil companies are given too many breaks from the government as it is.

Why? Keep refining the current capacity, but replace a portion of the oil that is being refined with US oil.
