Martha, my mom used to drag us outside to watch the blimps every time she saw one, memories memories.:lmao: the good year one used to land not far from where i lived as a kid which was very cool

Canon S2 IS....

Do you find it 'snaps' quick enough? (forgive my ignorance with terms)

I bought my first ever digital camera a little over a year ago... a Kodak Easyshare(something cheap and easy to use) cuz I was really confused and overwhelmed AND really didnt know what I needed.
Like this:

And actually during the day, outside, non-moving object, not too close up, this thing takes really crisp, nice pictures!

However - if I wanna snap something that is happening, for instance the face of a kid opening a present... it takes too long. It doesnt snap when I push - does that make sense? I suprised my son with a trip to Disney this past January and sitting in the parking lot of the airport I wanted to snap a picture as he found out we werent picking my boss up from the airport, WE were headed to the world.... I didnt get THAT face, I got a face a few seconds later.

Also - night pictures....they pretty much stink altogether, and trying anything far away, or moving at night? Forget it...garbage.

And - I cant get too close up to anything....even if I use the 'closeup' function.

Oh and the zoom? Useless... if I zoom, I get blur.

So, what do I need - what am I looking for? Would this Canon be it?

Cathryn,

You will most likely get much better pics with the S2IS. As Jann said, pressing the shutter about half way in anticipation of the shot will greatly help the "snap" time of the actual photo. Also the image stabilization will get rid of alot of your blur with the zoom and other situations.

However, as I have seen on this site, the S2 is not going to give you the overall excellence of these "pros" ;) with the DSLR cameras like the Canon Rebel or Nikon Dx or Pentax. It just can't do most of the incredible things that the DSLR's can. It is a great camera with limitations as most point and shoots have.

thanks Andrew and Amy, i wish the eyes were sharper but not having any spare body parts to sell in order to get a 600mm( $6000:eek: ) i guess i'll have to make due without it:lmao:

105 Yes- I find myself going for that lens more and more. Nikon does not really have nomenclature designations like Canon L lenses, etc. but it is definately the first piece of professional grade glass I have owned and I can certainly tell a difference. In the 3rd shot you can read his stopwatch in the full size file.

Seagull shot is fabu BTW- I agree it almost looks 3D.

I love my S2 - I might not be one of the "pros" with a DSLR, but it is quite an adequate camera for the price. I don't have the $$$$ to commit to a DSLR and all that goes with it at this time.

I know there are limitations to the S2 as compared to a DSLR, but I have not been disappointed since getting my camera in Feb 06.

You can check out my Photobucket albums for some samples!

Mockingbird - State bird of FL -(I am helping Tara with a project for school - Florida A-Z - they have to pick a word associated with FL and illustrate it somehow - photos, pics from internet, drawings, etc, - so I am trying to find as many things that we personally have taken photos of to use for the project) taken in St Augustine 3/27

You could probably get at least 20 letters with just the Disney characters you've photographed! :goodvibes

Its a over flow pond from our lake and the beavers have taken up residence here so its a beavers den. I counted three dens this year.
