why some people lie about their kids ages to get them into WDW for less $$.

So, this upcoming trip we decided to stay at the Hard Rock Hotel, spend most of our time at Universal and only go to WDW for 2 days.

2 adults, 2 kids, 2-day parkhoppers, $707!! :earseek: :earseek: :earseek:

The only part of that I really have a problem with is the second parkhopper day for my 3yo. We plan to spend one day at MK, and one day visiting AK in the am, mostly for EE, then MGM in the afternoon/evening, mostly for RnRC and ToT. Since the 3yo can't go on any of those, we're basically paying $105 for her to ride Triceratops Spin, play in the Boneyard and the HISTK playground, and watch Playhouse Disney Live and maybe Little Mermaid and/or Beauty and the Beast. :sad2:

So, now I see why some people pretend their 3yo's are 2 for the day. Not that I would ever do it, just saying I'm starting to understand. :sad2:

And the parades, shows (incl fireworks), and other misc non-ride activities?

I check this stuff out since I help people with children that age and I don't see any comparable vacation being much cheaper.

There is still much your DD can do at AK and MGM. She can go on the Kilamanjaro Safari ride, take the train ride to the animal area, she may be tall enough for Kali River Rapids (38 in), she can see It's Tough to be a Bug, though it may frighten her, Camp Minnie Mickey she can get lots and lots of pictures with lots and lots of characters, you could spend half the day just in Camp Minnie Mickey. Then of course, there are the walking trails of all the animals. (think zoo)

For MGM, she can climb on the Honey I Shrunk the Kids playground while you sit and relax, there is the Great Movie Ride, The Muppet Show, chance to meet many characters, there is the parade, the Back Lot Tour, and she can eat at Pizza Panet!

Yeah...life is expensive and so are trips to WDW. If you don't like it, don't go there. That's my philosophy. Don't complain about the cost. nobody is forcing you to go.

Hey thanks for the suggestions, I don't know why I was thinking Kali had a higher height requirement! Yes, she'd love that, and she loves the characters, so we can do some of that with her, too.

Our family just isn't into parades. We like fireworks, but Fantasmic has too many scary themes for her, so we won't be seeing that.

We've been there enough to know what she likes and what she'll be scared of, and we know she won't be getting our money's worth on that particular day. :confused3

MK, of course, is a whole different story. :teeth:

Yeah...some people like to vent, some don't. If you don't like it, don't open posts that are clearly vents. That's my philosophy. Don't complain about the things other people talk about. Nobody is forcing you to read it.

Oh snap...you GOT me.

Of course, if you don't like some of the replie you get on this public forum, you could ignore them. Really, I'm in a contentious mood today...perhaps chocolate will help.

I was going to suggest dropping the park hopper option to save yourself a couple hundred dollars, and choose one park or the other for the day. So, I reread you OP to see what your itinerary is, and I realize, you are really paying too much for EVERYONE if you are just going to MGM for 2 rides, and AK for 1 ride.

I mean, if you are not going for the ambiance, and just want to ride one or to rides, I would suggest maybe going to AK, and save MGM for anther trip.

I know you are just venting, and are not looking for advice, but it really is a lot of money for 3 rides.

Don't feel bad. I posted a vent on the Restaurants board last week about the ice cream place on Main Street getting rid of the ice cream sandwiches that you could choose the flavor of ice cream for --now you can only get vanilla. Anyway I was told that I should see it as an adventure; I could wait in one long line to get the mint chocolate chip ice cream and then go next door to the bakery and wait in another line to get the cookies, then make my own sandwich! I should be thanking disney for doing this not complaining!

I spend a lot of money at WDW, I'll complain if I want to...

The cost per day goes down with the longer day passes. You are paying premium for 2 days and park hopping. Where are you getting these tickets from? One could always take the 3 year old to MK for two days and not use hopping for the child and the adult.

WHAT???? The bakery doesn't do custom ice-cream sandwiches anymore???????? Now that is a vent I gotta be a part of. Those were so good, though DH won't get them anymore becuase they melt pretty quick and get messy.

Chobie: make sure you get the cookie first!! otherwise your ice-cream will melt.

LOL! OMG, that's hysterical! :lmao:

And yea, I realize you pay a lot more per day for a 2 day pass than a longer pass -- that's why we never made it to Universal before, it was too easy to keep going to WDW parks for the extra $3/day. :rotfl:

We'll be doing more than just those 3 rides, but those are the main reasons we want to go to those 2 parks, and we'll be riding each of them more than once, especially lucky dd8, who gets to go double the times mom and dad do. ::insert green-eyed monster smilie here::

We almost chose to just go to MGM that day, but we really, really want to ride EE, and we decided it's worth it for the 3 older ones to fork over the big bucks for parkhopping to experience it, since we don't know when we'll be getting back to WDW.

But again, thanks for the ideas.

If you know you'll be going back why not buy hoppers with more days since the per day price difference can mean big savings. We're going in Nov, we needed 1 more day of passes because we have ones from a prior trip. I ended up buying 7 day hoppers on Saturday before the price increase. Yeah, it's a big layout now but we'll go back in the next year or 2 so it's worth it. Plus prices will only go up more down the road.

I've been thinking about that, but we really don't know when we'll be getting back. We live much closer to DL and go there more often. This is our second trip to WDW in a year, which is unusual for us. I am totally kicking myself right now, though, for not getting no-expiration last year. We had one day left on those hoppers, but didn't do it, because we didn't think we'd be back so soon, and yanno, that last day was only $3.00 a piece, so it wasn't a big deal to lose the money. :sad2: duh. :sad2:

Just Stay at Universal and Save the $ 700. for next vacation at Universal
I would almost do that, except that I need my MK fix, and dd8 thinks she needs to go on RnRC again before she'll have the guts to try an upside-down roller coaster in the daylight. :rotfl:

Still, since the cost of the room is so much lower than a deluxe at WDW, we are still paying less for a week at the Hard Rock, WDW and Universal park tickets for 4, and a rental car for a week, than we did last year for a week at the Poly and WDW park tickets for 3.
