I got carried away by all the excitement on this board regarding Southwest and the SW credit card and the free flights etc so I went ahead and applied for the card. Now I'm sorry that I did. :sad2:

Southwest only has 3 routes that are direct from Newark NJ - none of them do me any good vacation wise. I think I'm gonna cancel it - what good are 50K points worth of airfare If I can't use them to fly where I want to LOL. Oh well, I know a lot of you can take adavantage of this deal so I'm happy for you at least! :thumbsup2

So disappointed - should have done my research.....

They canceled the direct flight to MCO from my closest airport. I now would have to drive 1.5 hours to get a direct flight. I was planning to do that this trip to use my miles but we ended up changing our dates and booked JetBlue.

We are in central jersey and are on our 6th sw card. We fly out of Philly when using sw and flown to Orlando 3 times free and Las Vegas 3x free all direct. In October were flying to key west, also free, but there will be a stopover in Tampa.

I agree that the Newark routes leave something to be desired, but it has been worth it to us to drive the extra 45 min to Phil.

If it makes you feel any better we have to drive 2.5 hours to Baltimore to catch SW. Our closest a airport, 30m away, is only serviced by USAir

Where we live the nearest airport is 1 hour and 30 min away. We actually prefer to fly out of Detroit which is 2 hours. away. Either way I have to travel to get to any airport.

OP, you can't even use the points for a return flight? I found the same thing with departures from my airport. Inconvenient non stops. But their last non stop from MCO suits me fine and, unlike many travel rewards, you can use your points for one way travel.

I'm assuming that you mean non-stop, not direct flights?

Not everyone is a Southwest fan!

Milwaukee just got southwest services a little over a year ago. Before that, we happily drove down to Chicago (about an hour and a half drive) for better airfare. When we lived in Chicago we would drive to Milwaukee for better airfare as well. We go where the deals take us (within reason). That being said, we still have family in Chicago so it's not a big deal to stay there overnight for an early departure!

There are lots of other things you can use the points on. Amazon.com gift cards come to mind..... Best Buy gift card...... Sears gift card.... Plus a bunch others!!

We happily drive 3.5 hours to fly SW....of course, we would have to drive almost that far to fly any airline. :upsidedow
