My dh bought me some new disney travel guides that we dont have
the everything family giude to WDW resort, universal and greater orlando says you can. I was reading it and on page 44 it says that teh fast fact is as an wdw resort guest you can use the amenities at other resorts so if you are staying at all allstars you can go and use the pool at the beach club. I was SHOCKED !! no wonder so many newbies pop up on the resort board saying its ok to pool hop. I was so mad i called dh and was like return this book its wrong !! It had an email address inside of it so I went there and emailed the author and it came back as undeliverable. I swear sometime sI think us DIsers should ban together and write a huge guide ourselves.

ok thanks for letting me vent

I would e-mail the site, however I do not think they will care. When I was a newbie, I never ever thought it would be ok to pay for one resort and pool hop to another. Just seems like common sense to me. However I do know people that do it and don't bat an eye.:confused3 Just seems wrong to me.

Yes & no... it's very common for other non-disney resorts, for instance Sandals Ochos Rios specifically says you can use the amenities at their Sandals Dunns River resort. But they themselves advertise the feature, Disney does not.

I will never understand why people get so worked up over this topic. JMO 99% of the time it's someone asking the question to stir the pot and get a reaction. I can't believe people would go to WDW for vacation and then play "pool police" or even worry about it. If you're there and you think there's a problem, talk to the lifeguards. Then go relax and enjoy your vacation. If you're not at WDW, someone pool-hopping is not going to hurt you anyway.

I always wonder how people know other people are pool hoppers to begin with. Do they pick a family on day one and then follow them all over to see where they go?

Sorry, but I'm having way too much fun to be worried about what everyone else is up to. ;)

I just don't get why anyone would WANT to pool hop. It seems like it would be a total pain. Why would anyone want to go to all the trouble of draggin the family from one hotel to the next for a pool? :confused3

I totally agree. Could not have said it better! I have stayed at most of the deluxe resorts and have never noticed a problem. When I did have a guest I asked permission and was always told it was "no problem" by the hotel staff.

I agree with the other posters that ask "why do you care?" Seriously, is this a national epidemic or something? What really is the big deal?

We stayed @ OKW and my cousin and her family stayed @ WL and POP. On more than one day, she came to our resort to swim and we to hers. Is this illegal or something? If it were such a big deal can you tell me why no one else on the planet except some DIS'ers are making such a big deal about it?

I know a lot of questions, I just don't see what the stink is about.

actually the point was that the book was giving misinformation
your not sup to pool hop i dont it and what others do doesnt concern me
i have seen massive debates about pool hopping and refillabel mugs
so was shocked to see aguide book saying it was ok and allowed and also helped me understand why so many ask question over on the resort board about it

so i like i said it was about the misinformation more than anything and how surprised i was

I also agree. I don't have the time to see what everyone else is doing, unless they are line cutting in front of me!

Just thought of something else, if Disney really had such a huge problem with it I think they would install some type of sysytem where you had to show a room pass that showed what hotel you are at and when your stay is and then have someone at the entrances to the pools stopping people from other resorts from getting in.

Is pool hopping absolutely forbidden, or is it just discouraged? Was it once allowed and now it's not? There may be a reason why some guide books say it's allowed.

BD (Before DIS LOL) I would have assumed it might be allowed, like many other sister resorts allow it. I may or may not have asked an official if it was OK while I was there. I am one of those who could quite innocently have mentioned on a board such as this that I intended to pool hop .... and gotten flamed for it! Why can't people just inform and not flame? :confused3

Anyway, I am not at all surprised that this "no pool hopping" rule isn't that well known among the general population. Next time you (general you) see people pool hopping or read about their intention on a bulletin board, please cut them some slack! Most of them probably don't know they shouldn't be doing it!

Hi Kelly!!

how are you - haven't seen you in a while!!!

I believe it is posted at the WL that you can't pool hop -
But I don't think I saw it at POFQ...

how old is the book though -
I know they USE to allow it

I don't take these guidebooks serious, after I read in the Unofficial Guide, that if your child misses the height requirement by a little, then take them to a restroom and stuff paper towel in their shoes! :scared1:

I don't think a book written by people of the DIS would be 100% accurate. :p

hey pattyT
whats up !! so nice to hear from you, hope things are good.
The book is 2004 or 2005 4th edition. I really started thread more about how shocked I was and how if the books people its ok and disney doesnt always stop it no wonder there is so much debate about it
didnt expect so much why do care?

It just shows that even Official books get things wrong. If people are reading that than they are going with the assumption that it is allowed.

It would be nice though if Disney would post at all pools what their official policy is, I'd be really interested in that.

Well said! Me too, I don't care what others do, I got my own life. :rotfl:

It's true that the Loew's hotels at Universal allows pool-hopping but then each resort has pretty much equal facilities so pool-hopping shouldn't overwhelm any of them. Whereas imagine if pool-hopping was allowed at WDW and how tons of people would wind up at the BC/YC pool! Also, the Universal hotels are real easy to travel between so pool-hopping is easy and quick.
