OK, just for fun, there's a new program available for all you plan-a-holics out there. Not as serious as the DVC-Planner program, nor as complicated as the DVC-Tracker program is becoming, the new DVC-Chart program is more for fun.

It's now available at my download site at:

http://web.nalu.net/~wneth/dvcplanner.htm
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Program Features:

DVC Point charts for any year 2001 through 2054.

Color-coded Disney Seasons to calendar dates for easily determing relative point requirements.

8 different charts, all 7 current DVC resorts (2-charts for BWV)

Holiday dates for any year 2001 through 2054

Some special dates such as Mickey's birthday.

A Personal Family Dates capability where you can add your own special family dates. It will even calculate the N-th occurrence of a date. For example it will give you "Johnny's 7th Birthday" for 2004, and "Johnny's 8th Birthday" in 2005. Put in your own birthday date and set the calendar for 2054.....

An alarm feature that can be set from 1 to 90 days. Let it notify you when that birthday is coming up, or that anniversary, or even more important, when it's time to make that DVC reservation. ::yes::

Besides daily (Sun-Thu) and weekend days (Fri/Sat) points for each resort, it also totals them by 5-day week, 2-day weekend, and 7-day week. For all of you that like the 5-day week, see at a glance how many points that 5-days will cost you.

Plan way ahead if you want. Want to go for New Year's Eve? Well in 2008 it's on a Wednesday, low points, but in 2010 it's on a Friday night, high points.

During the full 54 years of the calendar, Easter comes earliest in 2008 (Mar 23rd) and latest in 2011 (Apr 24th).

The program does not read a point chart and calendar. Instead it uses several algorithms to calculate and display the DVC charts. Algorithms determine the holiday dates (such as Thanksgiving) for any year, and then other algorithms (that I developed based on Disney's patterns for adjusting point charts around the holidays) actually generate the point charts. That's how it can go all the way to 2054.

System requirements:

1. Requires Microsoft Windows installer 2.0 which is probably already on your computer. If you have an older machine with MS Windows installer 1.0 on it, you can update it at Microsoft's web site. (I give a link in the download page). I'm now using MS Windows installer because it gives you protection that Windows is correctly managing all your program installations.

2. The program is designed for a screen resolution of 1024x768 pixels. If you are using a smaller resolution some of the form will be off your screen and not accessible, but the main calendar is still useable. Unless you have a very old system, you can change your resolution setting and you may want to do this for all your computer needs. (If necessary, the program tells you how)

Sorry but this is Windows PC only. No plans to make one for a Mac. (Too expensive for me, plus I really don't know how :teeth: ) Maybe you Mac users should come back to the PC. (or you can get Microsoft's Virtual PC program to run PC programs on a Mac).

Have Fun.

Bill

Also if you haven't seen Tagrel's new on-line Point calculator program, be sure to check it out. Don't forget Dave's nice point manager program to keep track of your point usage. And of course the ol' standby DVC-Planner program is still out there for all your DVC planning activities.

(Maybe the 3 of us should get together and design an on-line reservation system... :rockband: )

Thank you for all the work you put into these great programs.

Maybe the 3 of us should get together and design an on-line reservation system...

That sounds like a good idea to me. ;)

Great program, Bill - thanks, as always!

... So you're a "Frasier" fan, are you? :)

Great program Bill.

The new points program is great, with lots of features, including a few key birthdays (Mickey's, Walt's, Bill's).

One thing I really like is that once it's installed, it is MUCH faster to do "what if" points calaculations versus going to the online sites. We can do several "what if" iterations in just a few minutes.

Thanks again, CaskBill!

Caskbill, thank you so much for this. We aren't owners yet (waiting on ROFR to go through) but I started looking at this and it will come in SO handy for us!!!

Caskbill

once again you really out did yourself, i am proud to have you as a dvc neighbor.

i just got my old computer back and our networking is all set up now i just have to transfer the planner from the old to the new.

thanks for all your help !::yes:: :wave2:

I'm sorry, but I really think it is inconsiderate to towards someone who is developing programs for us totally free of charge, to help our vacation planning to keep bringing this issue up. He does't program for Macs. He doesn't have to program for anyone. fYou clearly knew when buying a Mac with the much smaller market share there would be mush less available in programs. He's doing this for free for goodness sake. It really seems discourteous to me for this issue of macs to keep coming up. Get a PC or a PC emulation program for your Mac. Otherwise, tough.

Desperado, you need to chill out about people who use Macs! I feel the same way about how so many people post the same questions about Pool hopping or how to rent points or how to borrow point or how busy it in June or Easter ETC, ETC . but I don't fry them about it like you just did! And if you didn't notice, Caskbill did write that for the Mac user you could buy Microsoft's Virtual PC program to run PC programs on a Mac, which you could use to run his program. (He always states on every post about his program).

Thank you very much for (another!)great program. Really helpful!!

Thank you:)

My contention is that MAC people need to chill out, especially given his reference to the PC emulation program in the original post. This isn't the same as some newbe asking about pool hopping or renting points from DVC, your analogy is absurd. This is directed toward someone devoting his own time and knowledge and I'm sure countless hours of programming effort to offer to us free of charge a very helpful tool. Sorry, but I don't see it as the same thing as other repeated posts on this forum, which I manytimes reply to in a helpful manner.

lovwdwalot, you analogy is not even slightly applicable.

However, have a good day and enjoy the new software our very kind fellow DVC member has offerred.

You state " Sorry, but I don't see it as the same thing as other repeated posts on this forum, which I manytimes reply to in a helpful manner."

Well I disagree with you on this, Peddler could be like alot of DVC members who use a Mac and like some new members to this forum he or she could be just asking if there is a progam like Castkill for them. And all they are asking for is a"helpfull person" to to ask! It just sounds like you Desperado is one of those people who are pro PC when it comes to a Mac and all they can say is bad things about Mac users. However, you too a good day and enjoy the new software our very kind fellow DVC member has offerred.

Thanks again Bill for providing such great tools for fellow DISers! I, for one, really appreciate the time and effort you put into these free programs for us. Annmarie

Caskbil,
I hope you weren't offended by my quick comment about Macs as I sent it before I noticed your comments stating otherwise. I certainly didn't mean to offend you and do applogize if I did. We appreciate all your efforts and I was disapointed I couldn't take advantage of your work.

Don't sweat it. I know there are a lot of Mac users out there, but unfotunately it's not a simple thing to program for both PC and Mac. They're totally different. I'm sure Mac users understand that. If someone wrote an essay in English, then converted it to German because they could speak German, that doesn't mean they could easily also convert it to French. Well, I can speak (program) PC, but I can't speak Mac. So for obvious reasons I can only design for one system.

Desperado, I do appreciate what you were trying to say. I wasn' sure how to take Peddler's post at first, but I've been asked about Mac's enough times to know that Mac users would like to be able to use some of these programs and sometimes may feel a little left out and simply want to know if something will be available for their systems. I'm assuming that's what Peddler was asking, based on his reply quoted above.

Just FYI for everybody, I don't know of anyone who's done any type of DVC programs for the Mac. I do know that my DVC-Planner program will run on a Mac using MS Virtual PC, and I would expect this program and Dave's DVC Manager program would also run on a Mac using Virtual PC. I guess that suggestion is about the best any of us can do for Mac users.

Meanwhile, pixie dust to all.

Meanwhile, I wonder how many users have put their birthdays in the program and then kicked the calendar up to 2054. It's a shocker. In my case it read's "Bill's 110th birthday". Yikes. Did I say this was a 'fun' program?
