November 7, 2009 ~~~~ AHOY ST.CROIX ~~~~

Are any of you purchasing travel insurance not through DCL? We still need to. We want to have the medical coverage at least in case anything happens. I wish I could remember the company we bought it from last year. I went to insuremytrip dot com but there are so many choices it is overwhelming.

we went to insuremytrip. I've always used them. you just pick the policy that covers the most (or most likely) for the price you are willing to pay. I've already insured our Panama Canal cruise, also.

thanks shauna for the info. I wasnt sure if it was ok for Tim to wear nice jeans to dinner. Or Nate....do the kids have to get all fancy for dinner to?

I think he should bring something nicer than jeans for Formal night and palo. Palo likely would not let him in in Jeans.

just so you know the port doesnt open up until 10 a.m. so if you arrive at 8 you'll have no place to go! Maybe go to Cocoa beach for breakfast?

They do have an extra lot they use for early arrivals to sit and wait but that isnt open until 9:30 or close to that.

I second that - we got there at 9:30 once and it was a pain to wait across the road until they f i n a l l y let us in.

Oh no...Tim plans on wearing a suit for formal and semi formal and khaki pants to palo. I was just wondering on the non-dress up nights can he wear nice jeans and a polo. he has no problem dressing up just wondered what others did.

BTW, I forget who was having the conversation, but there IS still time for linking reservations. I just called today because 2 of our staterooms were on main dining and 2 on second dining. Everyone has now been switched over to second dining and linked together.
Hope this change will help some of you that are waiting for first dining!

And, can we say HOORAY for the "Dine n Play" program, where the counselors come to the dining rooms to take the kids to Club/Lab?
NICE!:thumbsup2

Good evening!

Wow, you all have been busy posting. We like getting to the Port early. We did for our May cruise too. We met some nice people standing in line. It's not so bad.

Traci- we don't get the insurance. (I think it's overpriced, but looking into another company may be a good idea). It's up to you really.
I think it was Linda who said that DH told her to scan and e-mail it to yourself, thats a good idea, I didn't think of that. All you need to get back onboard is your ID, and key to the world card. All your passport info. is with them, because you had to submit it before hand.
For the dress-up nights (formal/ semi-formal) we go all out. Lots of people dress up, but for the main dining room, some people still wear shorts and a t-shirt. You won't be out of place no matter what you wear. Even the kids get in on the dressing up. It's all up to what you feel comfortable in. It's a vacation. If you do dress up, there are some good places to get pictures taken with the characters all dressed up too. So, that might be good if you want those pics.

Hi everyone

I think I will stay out of the medical insurance conversation... ;)
Actually we do need coverage when travelling out of the country, but we are covered by DH's extra insurance from work. (this covers prescriptions, eye doc, other stuff that's not covered by our government insurance, as well as out of country medical insurance) We are all set.

I hope that you all get it sorted out so that you can have no worries once we are sailing away with Mickey!

Okay, I got all 13 birthday calendars stamped today. That was a big project. I wish I had that time for the FEs though. We also figured out our open enrollment, so that is another thing off the to do list. It's a good thing the list is getting smaller because we leave in 2 weeks. Hooray but also a little aaack because I'm not ready yet.

I need to look in my file from last year's cruise to see what kind of travel insurance we ended up getting. We just like to have the peace of mind that if we need something medically that we are covered. I've learned all to well in the past few years how expensive medical bills can be (DD was literally a million dollar baby) thank goodness for health insurance! DH is going to SCUBA, so in case something were to happen with that, or if we got sick or injured we want coverage. The other big thing is medical evacuation (like if they had to fly us back home for medical treatment) that can be expensive, although not likely. So, those are our major considerations. Having the travel delay and baggage delay benefits are nice too. Luckily we've never had to make a claim yet. I think last year we found a policy for the 3 of us for under $100 total (WAY cheaper than DCL's insurance). It did have a small deductible, but that way we only pay it if we use it. I'm hoping that I can find a similar policy this time. Okay, that is my 2 cents on the travel insurance. I know it is just one more expense, but it makes me feel better about leaving the country.

Have a good night everyone! Off to watch an episode of the Love Boat before bed. We got it from the library and it is SO FUN to watch and think about our upcoming cruise. My how things have changed in the cruise industry (and how FUN DCL is)!

That is exactly why we get it! I've had experience with the sick bay on my last eastern cruise. My medical insurance reimbursed me, but I'd have been in trouble had I needed a med-evac, because we didn't have travel insurance.

Traci, Tim should be fine in jeans on casual nights. And just a reminder - ladies might want a sweater or shawl in the dining rooms! I've had to send dh back to the cabin for one a couple times. brrrr.

Nope not sleeping in here. It's raining something fierce today. We have thunderstorm and flood warnings. But they always make it more than it is.

I am getting so excited. Tomorrow will be two weeks. Everyone have a great day! I will check in later.:flower3:

They don't always make the flood warnings more than they should. In June, I had my basement flooded up to two inches from the ceiling, four feet of water in my sun room, four feet in my garage and also in my shed. I'm still working on getting it back together. My driveway was washed away and I just got that back September 1.

I did have a question though. Does anyone know if they will have Tamiflu on the ship? Is anyone going to try to get some to take along?

I am here Linda, its only 7 a.m. here so I am NOT late your early:lmao:

Cool but no rain this morning. But its coming this evening.

Well I got all our cruise clothes sorted out yesterday and washed. Now I need to iron them today. I hate to iron but will do it. But its almost useless because they get wrinkled again in the suitcase.:sad2:

Traci,
I am using the shirt design of the pirate map with Pirate Mickey and Minnie on it, it also has the compass and Ahoy St. Croix on it. Its a tan color. Do you know the one i mean? If not I will post a photo of it.:thumbsup2 I iwll make them today before I start all that ironing.

Hope everyone is feeling better today.

I'll be back around lunch time.

Kathy

Hi Everyone!

I haven't posted in a while but I have been keeping up.

I'm supposed to be cleaning right now but I keep thinking of all the things I still have to do before the cruise (i.e. complete FE's, get suit for DS, try on my clothes and make sure they still fit :rolleyes1, pack, etc., etc., etc). I also still have to get DS's Halloween costume!! I feel like such a slacker but I just don't know where the time goes.

I won't be able to get anything done this weekend either as Donna (TiggerzFan) and her DH, Denise (DJDJ) and her DH and my DH and I are all having an "Adult Only" weekend at EPCOT for the "Food & Wine Festival"! I'm not complaining, but I'm definitely going to have to pick up the pace come Monday. DH will be gone for a couple of days next week so it will be easier to get things done!

Hope everyone is having a great week and I can't wait to meet everyone face to face!

Thanks Kathy. I know exactly which one you are talking about. Good luck with all of the ironing. I hate to iron too.

I guess we're going to use that one too. It's the only one I've seen, actually. I bought the t-shirts this morning at ACMoore for 3 $ each except for mine and the littlest one - ours were full price.

FYI all,

I was just at Joanne Fabrics and they have all their t-shirts (regular and fitted) on a "Buy 2, get 1 free" sale. So, if you have a Joanne's, that might be helpful.
I was there shopping for Girl Scout crafts and and had to stay focused but I could have gone crazy in there on cruise stuff!!!

As for the Tamiflu, I'm guessing that the Medical Center will have it in supply. They'd need it just for their staff. It would, of course, require an official visit to the center and you'd be billed accordingly, and quarantined.

We'll need some serious PIXIE DUST on the cruise to keep away the flu germs. Wonder how recent cruisers have fared.

The shirts are done YEAH!!
Plus I have all of Gregs clothes ironed. Now after lunch I will get mine ironed and will be done with it.:thumbsup2

Well off to have some lunch,

Kathy

Dinner's done. Wind is howling. It was nice, sunny, 70's here today, but tomorrow, back in the deep freeze. Saturday, cold and rainy is predicted - hopefully by then, I'll have my wits about me and can do the tee shirts.

I'd be afraid to ask about flu on the main cruise board - you KNOW how they all combine to whip the worry about whatever the topic of the moment is - into a frenzy!

Hi Linda,
I still have an hour before I start dinner. I don't even know what I am fixing tonight?
I spent all day ironing and my back is tired so dinner will be simple. Luckily Greg has simple tastes in food.

Hope your feeling a bit stronger today.

I don't fret about the flu on board, if I did I wouldnt be cruising. I use my little bottle of hand sanitizer all the time and of course they are always handing out wipes for everyone. I figure the odds of getting sick is the same as any other time we have cruised.

I just keep my fingers crossed and have fun.:goodvibes

Have a good evening all,

Kathy

Hi all,

Hope everyone's health (and teeth) are doing better today.

I'm looking forward to seeing everyone's t-shirts.

I've done tons of reading on the CDC's website and many others about the flu this week (wonder why-lol). I don't think it a big thing to worry about on the trip. Most doctors are being pretty restrictive as to who can have the Tamiflu, so I don't know that it is worth trying to get some to take with onboard. If you really need it while on the ship, they should be able to give it to you (and yes, they will quarantine you, but that is for everyone's sake). This flu is spreading like crazy. I still haven't taken DD out except for walks because I don't want to be responsible for spreading it to someone else. Overall from our experience and from what I've heard/read from most people, it is pretty mild. Only if you have severe underlying health conditions should you need to worry much. To be honest, I'm glad we have it over with so we don't worry. If only stores and restaurants were as good about trying to prevent things like DCL does--I wish restaurants would have everyone sanitize their hands upon entering. I don't worry about getting sick on DCL.

Oh, and one last thing that I meant to post this morning. GO PHILLIES!!!
