Well I am off to go see what class my daughter will be in. She starts kindergarten tomorrow. I am so excited to actually have some time for myself again.

School starting already?? Public schools in Michigan can't start before the day after Labor Day. DS leaves for college 08/23 but that is for sports camp and practice, not classes. How can summer be over?????????

Here in Central Florida the kids return on Aug 24th. They are now no longer allowed to start earlier than 2 weeks before Labor Day (with some exceptions). Before that it was much earlier - July 31st in '06!

It's been a fun summer but it's time to get back into a routine.

We started July 29. But we are year round- off the month of November, 2 weeks at Christmas, 3 weeks in March for spring break, done around June 13. It's the best schedule ever!!! Especially for families like ours that love to travel.
But even the "traditional" school districts around here all started August 10. They'll be done June 1.

Ok, I believe this is a summary of todays discussions.

We are meeting in the Promenade lounge at 2:45 to 3:00 P.M. the first afternoon and will leave around 3:45 so people can be ready for the safety muster. Everyone seems to agree on that so far.

Some havnt posted yet how they feel.

Most are interested in Bracelets which Shauna is going to keep us posted on and take care of for us. Thanyou
Shauna did ask what we wanted written on them, please give her some ideas.
I think Shaunas question got lost in all the frenzy today.
I like St. Croix then the date but will be happy with anything you want. I am easy to please. Now everyone post your opinions of what to have on the bracelets.

We do have a few who want t-shirts as well as bracelets.

For anyone who wants to do their own shirts from the logos Traci posted we need to vote on which one you like the best so we will be the same picture.
Personally I like the first of the logos Traci posted for us, but as I said above I am happy with any of them as long as I am on the ship I am happy

Traci is keeping the FE extender list for everyone, Thanks Traci.

Gail also proposed we meet on thursday for lunch just to visit and see how everyones week is going?
Gail this is your call. everyone who is interested please speak up. I know its hard to know what you'll be doing on thursday at lunch time. some eat early or late due to events on board. some the buffet, some restaurants.

Gail tell us what your thinking and we can pick a place and time. Love to meet for a visit towards the end of the week. Great idea!!


Is anyone interested in the cruise mates list like i mentioned earlier? I can add all this meet information to the list too so we have it all on hand to remember. I can PM everyone to get your information if people would like to have the list. Let me know.

You girls have been busy. My group like the bracelet idea. And are trying for the Pirate mickey & Minnie on tank tops for the girls and tshirt so our lonely boy with our names on them. PLease let me know if anyone needs help making list or anything. Its been really hectic around here and I tried to speed read 3 pages of stuff. So hopefully I caught up on everything. I'm starting to work on magnets for our doors soon.

On past cruises the FE list has been posted on a cabin door the first day and any changes can be noted there. That way if folks are unable to make the get together they can swing by and see what the changes are.

We'd be happy to host the list on our door if folks want to go that route.

I like the idea of the list being posted in just one place. That way anyone who has changed rooms just needs to notify the person who is going to post the list. If we do it at the meet, some may not get the changes.

Howdy all,

Bob that is a very good idea for the list on your door, maybe at the meet we should remind people to check your door and remind them of your room number too.
You may want to leave the list for 2 days though.
The first day can be quite hectic, especially for first time cruisers and they may not have the time to get to your room the first evening.

If you like i will add that to the cruise list as a reminder for everyone too.

Its great to see so many posting today too.

I want to make something, but am not sure how many to plan for. I will also need to allow myself enough time for last minute signups. Can anyone tell me what you are doing to make sure that you will have enough, but not have a bunch leftover?

I think everyone does this their own way but I usually wait until the 10 week mark and see how many we are then. Then I add 5 to that number and I am safe. If for some reason we go over that extra 5 I figured for, they will receive something different, like something edible from the store or glow necklaces etc... Instead of what i have for the others. They wont know the difference and it really doesnt matter as long as they get something nice.

That is how i have always done it. It may work for you??


DH noticed today that there are still rooms available for this cruise in all categories. That is unusual for this close to the cruise. Just shows the economy is hitting hard still for the cruise lines.

We are still Florida residents and so far they have had discounts for every cruise all year long including holidays which is really unusual. So I am possitive you will get the discount offered for this one too. I have been watching them too but this year we are changing to Oregon residents before the cruise so we cant get the discount. Darn it.

I can't believe I haven't posted in, like, forever!! I have been crazy busy and DH is over me spending every waking moment on the computer. My cruisemate neighbor, Donna (Tiggerzfan), got me completely addicted to the DISboards and I went a little nuts on the creative boards with all of the amazing and talented people and the work that they do for free!

I'm in for the bracelets but not the T-shirts. We do matching shirts for the first day and amazingly DH will actually wear it all day long.

I'm good with the cruise meet time and location. This is only our second cruise, the first being a 4-day, but I think I pretty much have the lay of the land down.

I'll be away from the boards after tomorrow as we are headed to the beach for a week. DH desperately needs some down time and he's actually going to be traveling for work for the first 3 days. There is no rest for the weary!

Will catch up upon my return.

One more thing for everyone to consider.
If your new to DCL you may not realize that if you dont want to eat with strangers you can link your dining with a friend from this board.

Its easiest if you both as assigned the same sitting already, lte or early.
But even if one has early and one has late it is still possible especially on a ship that isnt filled up.

It is easy to do,
just contact who ever you would like to sit with and if they agree, then get the first and last name of the persons name who booked their cruise, their room number and reservation number.
Call DCL and tell them you want to link dinner reservations with a friend.

Then they will ask for your name and reservation number. Once they pull up your info they will ask for the other persons info and your all set.

99% of the time you wll be seated together. The sooner you do this the better your chances are because around the 6 week mark they start assigning tables for everyone.
Its best to reach them before that time.

So if you dont want to sit with strangers now is the time to make your plans.

Sounds like we're going with the list on the door plan. So adding a reminder to the cruise list is a good idea.

On past cruises the FE list is usually "closed" some period (say 2-3 weeks) before the cruise. That way folks have a pretty good idea what the numbers are, those leaving early don't have to worry about missing anyone and those that want to ship their FE gifts to the ship have time.

Well school started today. It was the weirdest feeling being able to go shopping on my own without my kids. I usually have my youngest with me if I am not at work. Our school started today and goes until mid June. We have 1 week at thanksgiving, 3 at xmas, and 1 1/2 at easter. They were talking about pushing back the start date becasue it is still 100 degrees here. They think it will save on money for the A/C. My daughter did well today, but not so much for me. I have been so excited to get free time, but cried like a baby when I left the school. My daughter says she can't wait to go back tomorrow!

Is anyone doing the stingray adventure at CC? What type of dress are you supposed to wear for bruch at Palo? If we decide to do the FE, how many gifts do we need to bring and what kind of stuff do you usually give?
