November 5th 2011 Eastern on the Magic

We are in Orlando!! Uneventful flight, but a long flight! So glad to be off the plane. :) We are checked into the MCO Hyatt. :) :yay:

The weather is beautiful here!!

Hope everyone is doing well.... See you all tomorrow!!

Kathy

After an 11 hour straight drive, we arrived in Cocoa Beach at 3:30 pm. We have been doing homework and make up school work in the car and in the hotel. We did spend some time on the beach, but boy are we tired. Also both kids are on an antiobiotic for a sinus infection, but nonetheless we are excited.

Well we were out late tonight, going to have to do laundry on this ship the first day. We planned on doing it tonight but didn't get into our room until after 10pm, and we just packed everything up. Don't figure to have much competition for the washing machines on the first day.

Good night all! Sleep if you can!

Hi everyone!

Well, we are at MCO waiting for our flight home. We got a day room at the Hyatt, so we are just hanging out in the room before our 6 hour flight.

It was SO great to meet everyone, but I feel bad that there were some of you I never did get to meet!! But, I think I met a good share of you, though!

Thanks to ALL of you for the awesome FE gifts.... we had so much fun every day looking in our FE for gifts. It was just a lot of fun, and you all just put so many great gifts in our FE. So, thank you very very much. I have a big box of stuff I'm bringing home... all of our FE gifts we got (that either haven't been eaten yet, or other fun non-edible gifts). :)

With the exception of St. Thomas and some rocky seas the first 24 hours of our cruise, I have to say we lucked out on the weather. Castaway Cay could not have been more perfect, too (the water was a bit cold, but the air temperature was so perfect!!)

In St. Maaten, we went to Maho Beach (aiport beach) for the day. Wow, what a thrill!! It was amazing... a 747 landed right over our heads.... crazy. We got an awesome video of it, and then lots of smaller planes, some 767's, and 737's, too. Great great experience!

St. Thomas, we had the option to get a refund for our beach excursion, so we did. Instead, we went out and just walked around and chose to get drenched from the rain!! That was fun, actually. We were completely drenched all the way through our clothes... :) :)

Then, Castaway Cay, Eric and I ran the 5K... super fun!!! Had a great time..... then we rented bikes and biked all over all the trails. Then, just played in the water and the beach the rest of the time.

Oh, how I already miss the ship! I hope everyone had a great time. would love to read reports and all the things you guys did, and post pictures if you have them!

Oh, Tim (switzert).... I never had a chance to meet you or your family (amongst other people). I wanted to tell you a funny story... so I'll just tell it here. On our way to the ship, we were on the Disney Bus, and this huge U-Haul passed us in the other lane.... I just started to laugh out loud, and my DH asked what was funny. I told him that U-Haul was "switzert's" SUV with all the luggage he was hauling. haha. (then I told DH how we were all joking around with all the luggage you brought). Anyway, that UHaul made me think of you. haha.

But, I do have a question for you, Tim.... I found out you are a big guy... did you by chance play the 3-on-3 basketball on one of the sea days up in the basketball course, and if so, do you by chance go by "Tiny Tim"? If so, then you played 3-on-3 with my husband Eric, and I have pictures of you guys playing. If that wasn't you, then never mind. But, this guy "Tiny Tim" my husband played with and met was a big tall guy!

Would be so ironic if that were you... I watched most of the 3-on-3 game.

Take care everyone... would love to keep in touch with those who are interested.

Oh, and did anyone book a future cruise?? If so, which one? We booked two.... Mexican Riviera Dec 16-23, 2012 on the wonder (we might move this one once the Magic 2013 dates come out... so this mexico cruise was sort of a "dummy date"), and then we booked the April 6-13, 2013 Fantasy Eastern Caribbean (but it goes to St. Thomas and Peurto Rico). The price for this was too good to be true, and this is our kid's spring break for that year, so they won't miss any school. So, we'll be keeping that date for sure, unless something unexpected comes up.

Bye for now!!!

Kathy

PS, Michael, I'm so glad you introduced yourself to me at the 5K run start on Castaway Cay! :) I had been wondering who you were, and wondering if I'd meet you and Christine. So, it was great to finally meet you both, and also Ashley. Great to see you guys out on the 5K course, too!!! It's fun to know people on the cruise! Hope you had a wonderful 40th... what a great way to celebrate ON Castaway Cay!

btw, everyone, we are back in cold Seattle! I already miss the Magic! :( But, we made it home late last night... LOOONG flight. There were really bad head winds the entire trip and it was really turbulent most of the flight. So it was about a 6 hour and 20 minute flight. We finally got home to our house about 11 PM Seattle time, which was 2 AM our body time... boy, were we tired!!

Hope everyone is making it home safe and sound...

Kathy

Kathy (LTR): it was great to meet with others and I too am sad that I didn't get to meet some.

We are in the car about 2 hours from home. We stayed the night at Disneys Hilton Head resort for the first time and it was great. We can't wait to go back there and stay longer. Its only about a 5 hour drive there for us.

On my droid, so I will write more later.

Kathy (LTR) glad you got home safely, hopefully everyone else did too. It was great to meet you, Eric and the boys.

Mike, Jim had a good time at the beer tasting with you! It was nice to get to know you, Christine and the kids.

Tanya, so glad you decided to rebook, and not let your bad dining experience ruin it for you. Hope you got early dining for your next one:thumbsup2

Danielle, it was nice to meet you too, i will look for you next time in BJ's!

Kathy (Grandma) It was nice to finally meet you, you really got this meet going, and without you we would not have got to meet so many great people.

Sorry i didn't get to meet everyone on here!

Thank you all for the wonderful FE gifts. The kids were so excited to go back to the cabin, just to see what goodies everyone had left for us.

We had such a wonderful time on the cruise and enjoyed every minute of it, oh how i wish i was still on the Magic!

We were lucky that the rocky seas did not seem to effect us.

We had a great day in St Maarten, we were off the ship early and went to Little Divi Beach, which was beatiful. After lunch we came back to the downtown and did a little shopping.

St Thomas, well that was a washout. We debated on going to Magens beach anyway, but decided not to and just headed downtown. We were back on the ship by 12:30pm. I was disappointed, as i was looking forward to seeing St Thomas, oh well good reason to go back!

Castaway Cay, oh what a beautiful day.....We spent the day lazing on the beach. We rented tubes and floated around. Jim and the kids went snorkeling on their own and found a Starfish (it was dead), which was very cool. We were going to bring it home, but it was a little stinky!

We have rebooked for Nov 2 2013.

I would also love to keep in touch with any who is interested:)

I hope to post some pictures later in the week.

Take Care

Claire

Howdy all,

Well it was a great cruise and so much fun to meet almost everyone.
We had lots of turbulance for our return light just like Kathy (loves to run) did, of course we live next to each other.

I really enjoyed seeing so many of you all week long.
Thank you everyone for all the great FE gifts, all made it home without getting broken or squished by the airlines which surprized me.:goodvibes

I don't know who did the cool origami flower (or star shape) but it was beautiful and I am so jealous someone could do all that folding and have it look so awesome. I tried the origami in the Promenade lounge for flowers which was suppose to be the easiest shape to do. Well they didnt figure on me and my 6 thumbs when he said that:lmao: But it was fun to try??

All of you were so nice and friendly. So sorry Jenny became ill and missed the cruise. Missed you Jenny:hug:
Your family was very nice. I saw your dad qhite often around the ship.

For the new cruisers we dont usually get rough seas or that much rain in November on the Eastern. I have done several and the most we usually get is one quick shower on St. Thomas which is usually 10 minutes long. I was also surprized the humidity stayed so late in the year. So now that you have survived our cruise your next one will be a piece of cake:thumbsup2

Our return wasnt as smooth as I had hoped for. It was just one of those trips.
First i forgot the documents, then the door signs. But on the way back the airlines decided to change our time again and they changed out plane and didnt sit us all together. They wouldnt change us either. They said we could ask people to change with us on board, but we didnt mess with that. Others had been split up too.
That was all for the 2nd leg of our journey. They also gave us a 4 hour layover in Texas which meant we would now get home 4 hours later. That was so boring but we managed, then they announced the plane we were waiting for was coming from Panama and was running at least 30 minutes
late.
So by the time they deplaned and cleaned etc.. we added anothe rhour to the time. Finally boarded and 30 minutes into a 5 hour flight the turbulance started and never let up until we landed in the wind and pouring rain. We hit hard down on the left wheel and then bounced onto the right ones too.
Usually that long of a flight you get up and stretch but not on this one. Even the flight attendants were sitting more than being up and serving people.:rolleyes1

Of course once we landed it took for ever to get out luggage but thankfully this year they didnt loose any like last year.
Then 20 minutes for our shuttle. Finally we got to our truck in the dark pouring rain and guess what?

Yep the battery is dead. So we threw the luggage in the back seat and went into the hotel to get a jump, then finally we drove an hour in the bad weather to our hotel and arrived just a little after midnight.

we literally fell into the beds last night but had to be up early to get the pups and drive 2 more hours to home today. Oh and in the Orlando airport I set our portable DVD player n a chair for a minute and walked off and forgot it and 8 movies in the case. So will have to replace it before our next plane trip.

Hopefully thats all the excitment for this trip;)

I will post some photos soon, and I hope others will too.
That is always a nice way to end the thread.

Back tomorrow, hopefully with photos.

Hope everyone had a good, safe trip home,

Kathy

Hope everyone made it home safely and now are probably recovering from Jet lag and getting back to work.
Please share some of your favorite photos from the trip before we shut down our thread. I will try to get my photos ready to post by tomorrow.

Claire, I too would like to stay in touch with anyone who would like to.
I have your e-mail and i know most have mine, so I hope people will write now and then too.:thumbsup2

Back tomorrow with some photos,

Kathy

Kathy & Kathy--sorry to hear your flights home weren't so good. And GMA Kathy, that really stinks that you had all those problems! Not the way you want to end a fabulous vacation.

Claire, I'm so disappointed we didn't get to chat more. I'll keep an eye out for you in BJ's ;)

Well, I am back at work (and still experiencing some dizziness from the ship) and walked into the nightmare I thought I would. I've spent all morning working on cleaning up mistakes. Gonna be a long few days until I get it all figured out.

We had a FANTASTIC time on the cruise! It was so much fun! Isabella & I did get a bit of motion sickness the first day. She was fine until dinner when she sat down. I had already taken a drammamine so I was able to help her out and get her to the room, fortunately there was no vomitting!. Our fabulous server & asst server took care of getting our food up to our room for us and she felt better within an hour.

I loved meeting everyone, we totally hit it off with Tanya, Darcie, & the kiddos which made it even more fun. I didn't have to worry about Isabella or Mike being bored.

Thank you everyone for the FE gifts, there were some really great ideas and I feel like I'll be more prepared for next time. Isabella & I devoured lots of those yummy snacks on our flight home. (Like others, our seats were all over the place so while we were fortunate to get Isabella & I back sitting together, DH sat elsewhere).

We did book another cruise while on the ship too! We are doing the Nov 3 2012 Eastern Caribbean. I could not believe that Mike wanted to book again & so soon! He was totally Mr. Negative coming into it, but the Disney Magic (ship & 'pixie dust' magic) just blew him away.

Here's a question: Did anyone find that the lady at the future bookings desk was terrible? When we first went to talk to her, she gave us the impression we were bothering her. We asked for three quotes, she wrote them down quickly and said she'd get back to us. The next day we received the quotes on our way out the door and then when we returned later that night, there was a confirmation of a booking for a Mexican Riviera cruise! It even had a travel agent listed that I have never heard of. Since the desk was closed, I went to Guest Services and they canceled it. That night we went back to the booking desk and booked our Eastern Caribbean, however, she didn't even discuss room options with us, just booked us in the same category we were in. When I got home I saw that we could go up a category for a nominal fee. This would have been information I would like to have known at the time! (I have since emailed my travel agent about it.) I just can't believe how terrible she was, DH wrote a whole lot about her on the comment card. And I know Tanya & Darcie had an equally awful encounter with her also. Just curious if we got her on an off day.

Hi Danielle,

sorry to hear about the booking agent being so bad. I didnt chat with her this time but on previous cruises we had very nice booking agents who were extremely helpful. At least you got it taken care of but I would definately let them know about her!! I know they read comments because I send an e-mail after every cruise to DCL about good and bad things and on our next trip we chatted with those envolved and they were contacted about the situation. ( a good one that time) But in chatting with CM's and entertainers in the past they told us the Captain himself takes time to read all comments on the comment cards between sailings and makes note of any comments. But especially any negative ones.

I'm sure Capt Marco does the same. Then they have a meeting about the problems, especially if it appears in more than one comment card. Capt Tom even reads trip reports on the Dis for comments when he gets the time.

At least you did get booked. We talked about it but didnt do it this time. May book for 2013 in a few months. I think 2012 will be Holland America just because we have wanted to check them out. We have heard so many great things about them. Of course last tiem we tired a different line it was a diaster but hopefully this will be better, then 2013 may be on the Fantasy.

I like smaller ships but would like to see the newer ships too.
Well I am off to wash dishes since my room host wouldnt follow us home to do it for us:headache:

Kathy

I was disheartened that I wasn't able to meet all of you (besides sharing the shuttle to the port with flygirl :wave2:) but being my first cruise experience with 4 kids, we were pulled in so many different directions from 6:30am when the younger 2 woke up to 10pm when the older 2 were ready to go play basketball or hit up the theater for a movie, that we were wiped out. Our stop at Sea World after the cruise was good but we were all so tired that we ended up going to the airport early and sitting at the gate. I'm still in a daze this morning! I'll try and get some of my pics up on photobucket tonight and link them up here. I took almost 600 pictures so I'll need to pick a few of my favorites.

I can say with certainty that our next vacation will be a cruise, and most likely a Disney cruise. I thank you all for the valuable information provided and hope to run into to some of you on a future endeavor. We had the absolute best time, even with the weather not cooperating the first day or so and on St. Thomas, otherwise, what a great experience!

Hi everyone,

I'm still getting my pictures in order, so I'll post some as soon as I'm able, but my husband put this video on You Tube of a KLM 747 landing at Maho Beach in St. Maarten! It was just UNBELIEVABLE!!! I was also taking a video, but from more of the side of where the plane landed... Eric and the boys were right under the plane, so his video was better than mine. You can hear Eric laughing in the video just as it goes over and lands... :rotfl:

Hopefully this link works here. Let me know if it doesn't:

http://youtu.be/889355dtTxI

And, you'll hear the police car in the background... with all the big (heavy) jets, a police car came and cleared people away from the fence which is right close to where it lands... but something about the police siren just made it more dramatic! :lmao: It felt like a disaster waiting to happen.... even though it was all fine!

But, it as just the most amazing thing... the weird thing is that the plane LOOKS like it's coming right at you, and my natural instincts were telling me to RUN!! :scared1: But, I went against my instincts and just stayed in one spot, and boy, did my heart race like crazy. I ended up falling to my knees just about when the plane was going over head because my natural instints just made me do that... I almost couldn't help but fall to my knees! But, Eric is much more of a risk taker than I am, so he stood up the entire time it went over his head... that is why his video turned out so well!

We hope to go back here again sometime! I would spend all of my time at this beach if I could! There was also a great restaurant right there we at at and were able to get some shade, too. Super awesome experience... probably the highlight of our trip was this beach (and the Castaway 5K was another highlight... oh, and eating dinner at Palo on my bday was another highlight)... :) :)

Kathy

Hi Danielle,

So great to meet you guys (and like I said, everyone else!!)...

We re-booked, and I didn't find any issues with the travel agent, BUT I also knew exactly what cruises I wanted, which cabins, etc. I had figured it all out before we left on our trip. So, I pretty much just sat down, and told her what I wanted to book, which cabin category, and stateroom (hopeing it was available, which it was), gave her my travel agent's name, had her charge the deposits to my CC on file, and that was it. I think I was sitting down at her desk for a maximum of 5 minutes. So, she really didn't have to do much for me, since I didn't have her look up cruises or prices for me, etc.

So, my guess is why I didn't have a bad experience is because I did all the work for her... she just had to type in the info.

Sorry it wasn't a good experience! I would definitely write DCL and tell them your feedback.

We were not impressed with our dining room server at all (or our assistant server). We shared a table with a family, whom we really enjoyed and we all were a good match... hit it off totally (and ended up exchanging contact info), and even they weren't terribly impressed by the server.

The one thing that annoyed us the most with our server is every night (actually multiple times a night at dinner) he would ask how our food was, and I'd say, "it's good". Then, he's come back and say, "it's what?" Then, I'd say, "it's good!" Then, he'd say, "oh, I'm waiting to hear that it's Excellent! That is only what I want to hear." So, then I'd say, "well, I think it's good." Then, he'd come back again and said, "is the food excellent yet?" And, it would go on and on.... he'd do this with my husband and the other family, too. Then, toward the end of the cruise, he explained to us (which I alread knew this) that he is hoping to get an "excellent" in our review survey because that is how he is graded in his job. At that same time, he said, "so, I hope you will only say I'm doing an Excellent job." Basically, he kept trying to force us to say everything was excellent.... and that almost made me want to only say it was just "good" because I don't like people putting words in my mouth, etc. But, on top of that, he got our orders wrong a few times, would give my my DH's food and DH my food, and then we'd have to switch, etc. etc.

Anyway, there were a lot of other things, too, but basically, out of the 4 cruises we've been on, I was not impressed with him at all. Our server we had on the Panama Canal cruise was awesome!!! He was so nice and never ever tried to persuade us to give him a certain score on the review card, etc. (we did give him an excellent because he was....).

But, other than the dining room server, that really was the only thing that we had a complaint about. Everything else we thought was so wonderful!!

We loved our stateroom host... he was soooooooo nice and wonderful!! He did a great job! :)

Hopefully others had a great dining room experience, especially the first timem cruisers!!!

Kathy

Kathy,
thats a great video. I know I couldnt stand there that close to the plane when it landed. my instincts would of said run away and I would of.:lmao:

Kathy

Wasn't it a wonderful cruise? Except for our St. Thomas day! Kathy LTR, I think I saw you and your family at the Magen's Beach excursion meeting-we chose to try and see it-and had about a half hour to enjoy it! And then it just poured and stormed something awful! When we got back we had a message from DCL that they would refund half the cost-that was very nice of them, since we had the option of canceling that morning. Oh well, it cleared up as we sailed away-just another reason to cruise again!
I'm so sorry I didn't get to the meet until almost 3:30 so missed many of you-we signed up for a pass for the Rainforest Room and they convinced us to return for the raffle-which took FOREVER...I met Kathy and Greg, however, and thank you again for organizing us! :)
I'm so glad everyone seemed to have a good time-even though we spent most of our time in the adult areas, I have to say one of our favorite moments was watching the little ones dancing away to the DJ along with their parents in the Promenade Lounge! It was as good as a show! I told my husband THIS is why people come back to the Disney ships year after year-look at their faces!
We have a big trip to WDW planned for my grandson's third birthday (in 2013!) but maybe it should be a cruise?? Or a 5 day cruise and 5 days at the park???
I will try and get some pictures posted!

You probably did see us at the meeting place for the Magens Beach break at St. Thomas. My husand and I went back and forth a few times trying to decide if we should cancel (take up their offer and get a full refund) or if we should just brave the rain and go. I told my husband that since we are from Seattle, rain rarely keeps us from doing things, so I was trying to convince him we should just do it because even though it's raining... we are used to rain! But, then my DH made a good point that if it continues to thunder and lightening, then we would definitely NOT want our kids playing in the ocean, and then it would really not be any fun to just sit on a wet beach and not be able to go in the water. So, once he made that point (which I hadn't thought of), I agreed and we decided to just cancel.

It's nice to know they refunded you 50%! I love Disney's customer service... they always go above and beyond. :)

Well, today it's pouring rain in Seattle... but I'd rather take pouring rain on St.Thomas than pouring rain in Seattle <sigh>... :umbrella:

You probably saw me more than just that morning at St. Thomas if you were in the adult areas mostly. I spent a lot of time up at the adult pool on the sea days. I LOVE sitting right on that bench next to the pool, or on that little platform in the pool where there is just like 2 or 3 inches of water. That is where I always was when I was at the adult pool.

Hi everyone! We made it home safe and sound! So much fun! Glad to meet some of you feel free to find me on Facebook just search for BT Gilligan.

Sorry I didn't get to meet most of you but those of you I did meet were amazing! I will try and post some pictures soon.
