November 5th 2011 Eastern on the Magic

Question from a first timer... is "Formal Night" and "Semi-Formal Night" for the whole family? Christine and I signed up for a dinner at Palo (no kids) and plan to bring some nice clothes... should I also have nice clothes for the kids as well?

I also heard something about Pirate night? Should we come prepared with pirate outfits as well or are those available on the ship for us to use?

I'm so glad I found this board... I'm learning so much from all of you! Thank you all!

- Michael

Formal and Semi formal are for the entire family in every dining room. If you dont want to do that you can go to the buffet that evening. It is NOT a buffet at night, it is a sit down restaurant. Its a small but good menu and casual dress every night. It is not open the first or last night.

I believe it is from 6:30 to 8:30 P.M., just walk in anytime. Its faster than the regular dining room.

Yes Pirate night everyone is encourage to dress up in their best pirate attire for dinner and stay that way all evening through the Pirate deck party that night.
You see people in full pirate outfits to just pirate t-shirts and jeans. The more who dress up the more fun the party is. Even your wait staff will be dressed in pirate attire and the characters too.
The ship has very little pirate attire for sale, mostly a couple little kids stuff and eye patches.

Love the pirate party!!!

We have a Costco membership but I dont buy much food there. The quantities are so large I cant always use it all in a reasonable length of time.

What i buy is my dogs flea meds. They are half price there so 2 months worth saves more than theyearly membership costs.:thumbsup2

Although the slow roasted chicken is a favorite around here.

Well i got a nice surprise today. My co-worker who said she would me my FE, said for my birthday that her and my boss will buy me a FE instead. That way i can get a personalized one instead. So i ordered it today and have been promised that i will recieve it before Nov 4:banana::banana: i hope it will be here or i will have to break out with the duct tape to make a last minute one!

Thats great!!
I am still figuring out one problem with mine. I may wind up with a duct tape one myself. :lmao:

Great information Kathy... thank you! Looks like we've got some shopping to do!

The good news is pirate outfits will be on sale right after Halloween. Perfect timing! pirate:

SLM, you mentioned books. I love books. I read so much. I am reading a booked called Insurrection by Peter Rollins and plan to finish that this week and read "Scouting the Divine" by Margaret Feinberg by the following week. Then, I might pick up the Steve Jobs biography, or something else. Not sure yet. Maybe a nice novel by Ted Dekker or something. But with my iPad I will bring 100's of books with me :)

No reading for me on the ship. I am too busy doing all kinds of stuff. I can sit and read at home if I want to read something.

I want to do things I dont get to do at home.:goodvibes

this is why I am going to try and read. I can't at home.:)

haha! That is me, too! I rarely have time at home to read at home!

Although, it becomes kind of a catch 22 for me when I'm on vacation... I finally have time to read, but I'm too active to just sit for a long time to read (I'm one of those who just doesn't like to "sit", so when I read on the ship, it'll be for just very short periods at a time, or on the plane (6 hours of just sitting!! Definitely a great time to read a book, that is if the kids are entertained enough).

Also, I love to people watch, so a lot of times, I'll bring a book with me up on deck 9 or 10 with all intentions to read, but I end up being too entertained by just watching all the people around me that I end up not reading. :)

But, Kathy, I'm also with you... if I had a choice to read on the ship, or do something on the ship I can't do at home, I'll definitely do the thing I can't do at home!!

I just bring a book if there are times where I just want to sit and read. We have a veranda room, and a lot of times our kids and Eric go to bed before I do (I'm more of a night owl by nature), so if they are all asleep, I'll just go sit out on veranda and read. :) But, then again, I often will get so distracted by just watching the water that I don't read!! :lmao: Once again, something I can't do at home... watch the Atlantic ocean right below me!

Yeah, I don't know if I will get to read or not while I am there but at least I can bring a bok and look intelligent?

Greg usually wears a pirate t-shirt and I dress up completely but my outfit is in the back of a storage unit and I cant get to it. So If I can find some sales I may be dressing up, (I hope) If not I will at least have a pirate t-shirt, maybe a head bandana and eye patch. i always do something but prefer to dress up all the way.
I got all these clothes on close out sales and cut them up to be uneven. I had the necklace already which is the gold coin from the POC movie and then bought the Mickey pirate ears. Boots were $10. So very cheap for everything, maybe $30.00
This is what i usually wear. I tried the striped pants many pirate outfits had and whoa not with my figure:rotfl2::rotfl2: So I went with the skirt instead.

Just a quick pop in to say, "Hello!":wave2:

I'm staying a the MCO Hyatt for this business trip and this morning, when I walked through the lobby, the nice DCL people were setting up their check in table for guests staying there pre-cruise! Just 16 days and then they'll be checking in people for OUR CRUISE!!!!

Michelle

Good Morning,

Michelle how is the weather today there?

For books... I might bring one book... I love Nicholas Sparks I have one I need to read of Amy Tan book Bones I have that I just haven't gotten around to reading...

As for the kids how to settle them down the night before... Well like Kathy's son it is Sean's birthday as well so we will travel to my parents house and go out for dinner. We are having his birthday party with his friends on the 30th at the movies. Hoping they will get some sleep that night as we have to leave early to cross the boarder. I made a binder at work yesterday, yes instead of working...LOL with all my documents that I need, I had to get their dad to sign a travel document etc as we are not together, get the court order etc... So I want to leave early just incase to cross at Buffalo.

Hope everyone had a great night. We were busy, Tap at 5:30 for Meghan, teacher interviews from 6:15-6:45p, drop Meghan at the Boys and Girls club and then took Sean to the dentist... I didn't get in till 8:45p.

Well I better get some work done... Be back later.

Claire, that's so nice of your boss & coworker to get you the FE!!

Kathy LTR, your party sounds like a blast! I belong to BJ's through work, they pay for our yearly membership, which makes it worth it. Otherwise, I don't know that I would have a membership. We don't have the storage space to buy those mass quantities.

Switzert, paid the deposit today for Captain Alan, we'll be joining you!

As for the night before, I think we'll be pretty tired after a full day of work/school, driving 2 hrs to the airport to catch the 8:00pm flight, getting in to Orlando at 10:00 pm and then getting to the hotel. Or we'll be completely wired from the coffee that will need to be drank and just stay up all night.

As for reading material, I plan to bring my Kindle. I have a few book titles that I am going to see about getting through the library onto the Kindle the day before. Plus I am going to have to head to the library sometime that week to get a book for DH. He's into nonfiction sports books. Anyone have any recommendations? I'll also get a chapter book or two for DD at the library.

Happy Thursday all,

8 days until we leave for Orlando. My countdown chain is really getting short now:yay:

I have a lot to do but most cant be done until 2 days prior to us leaving, so those will be very busy days for me.

Today not so busy.

I need to post some photos or something to get my posting count up in numbers if I am to make my goal.

Catch everyone later,

Kathy
