November 5th 2011 Eastern on the Magic

This link has tons of information about hotels, restaurants, rental cars atc.. for the Cocoa beach area.
Scroll down to the car rental section and click on the link and sometimes you can find a discount coupon.
Also it shows all the hotels and tells who has shuttles to and from the port and contact information for all of them.

http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1520273

Its a great information thread written by a few people who own businesses at Cocoa beach, including Shirley of The Perfect Gift and its updated fairly often when things change.

Hope this helps someone who needs to figure out a hotel or transportation.

Has anyone done either of these excursions?
The Doubloon Turtle Cove Sail and Snorkle
OR
Tortola Dolphin Encounter? What do you think? Are they fabulous? Is it worth it?

ALSO... looking at the onboard spa services. How do you feel about those? Are they that wonderful or just overpriced? Thought I might buy a gift for my Mom, but only if it's a really great experience.

SOOOO if anyone can give me some feedback, advice, or opinions from past experience or word of mouth, it would help me decide to book these things or not.

Do you all do online check-in? Saw that on there while poking around these other areas.

Sorry cant help with the excursions or the spa, never done those but we do the online check in every trip.
It speeds up check in a lot. So your not waiting in line so long (if everyone does this) and its only 1/4th the time to check in, in comparrison to those few who dont do online check in.

I really recommend you do the on line check in.:thumbsup2

Has anyone thought about what their little boys will wear for the formal nights? Tuxes - Suits or khaki's and a dress shirt/tie? I am trying to wait until a little closer to the cruise to buy something for our DS. I didn't want him to have a growth spurt and then what I buy won't fit. Any thoughts?

Happy Thurs everyone.

Happy Thursday all:yay:

I am so glad that it is almost the weekend, its been a busy week....

This weekend we have to get DD passport, as it just expired! Can't believe that she is only 11 and is on passport #3!!

I was just wondering...Who is dressing up for pirate night? We all dressed up the first 2 times, but i think it maybe just our kids dressing up this time around!
w

We are dressing up! DS has a leftover Halloween costume and the rest of us are putting together our own outfits without buying anything. DH is wearing a tshirt that has a Mickey pirate on the front. I'm doing a bit more since we may have our photo taken with Jack Sparrow. You can almost wear any clothes as long as you have a hat or a bandana. This is our first Disney cruise so of course I'm going all out!

My little man is 5 too, and we bought him a cute suit at Burlington Coat Factory, which is ony about 30 mins from you. The pants are a bit long but I'm going to roll them under and put a few temporary stitches in them. That's for formal night. For semiformal, he's wearing black dress pants with a shirt and tie, also purchased from BCF. Other nights I think were going to let him wear shorts, unless I find a good deal on khaki pants, which he will need for church anyway. We will pair those with polo shirts.

Sean is going to wear just a shirt and tie and pants, then polo shirts, It is so much easier to dress girls in dresses.... Sean is not going to enjoy the tie!

We are total newbies to Disney cruising and I think you all will be shocked when I tell you that we do not have arrangements to get to the port yet! Costco advised me to rent a car and turn it in at the port, but I haven't looked in to it yet. Are there rental car agencies at port? I get the impression that the DCL transport is kind of pricey. We are flying in on friday and staying over at a hotel in cocoa beach. any advice from you veterans?
Michele

We are doing the exact same thing. Its very easy and the rental car places near the port will take you to the ship. We have done this a few times

We still have book the hotel and car.

Hi All,

Wow, so many posts already today!! :) :)

I hope everyone is having a good day!! I have another busy day ahead of me, but of course, I'm taking time out this morning to write here. :)

Here are my responses to some posts this morning:

Happy Thursday all:yay:

I was just wondering...Who is dressing up for pirate night? We all dressed up the first 2 times, but i think it maybe just our kids dressing up this time around!

We will for sure be dressing up for Pirate Night. My DH and boys get into the dressing up thing more than me, but I stll dress up a little. I don't have time to post it now, but somewhere back in this tread (like page 10 or 15 around there) is a picture of our family dressed up for Pirate Night. I'll try to repost the picture again later. But, we definitely do dress up. It's really fun!

What is this piratebooty stuff? totally never heard of it before or seen it....???

We have Starbucks here but our main coffee place is Tim Horton's yummmy, can't wait to get mine on break today... :woohoo:

Tanya

Tanya, they must not have Pirate's Booty in Canada. It's a white cheddar cheese puffed rice and corn baked snack. It's SO good and very addictive. It's kind of the same concept as the puffed Cheetos, but Pirate's Booty is healthier than Puffed Cheetos.

Oh, I love Tim Horton's! I've spent quite a bit of time in Canada, and I've always made a stop at Tim Horton's!! I actually don't drink coffee any more (once in a while, I'll have a cup, but rarely now), but back when I was drinking coffee, I only drank Tim Horton's when I was in Canada!! It's very good. :)

Hi everyone,

We use DcL because welike th eno hassle of running back and forth on our vacation and the movie and cartoons they show on the bus get you pumped for the cruise. W can sit back and enjoy the view and no worries about traffic or getting lost, although we know the way since we use to live there,

Kathy

We like DCL transfers, too, for the exact same reasons Kathy mentioned, so we've only done DCL transfers and have never rented a car or done a private car service.

I can't speak on the excursions, but I've been to the spa. I think the spa is great! It is worth getting one treatment during your time on the ship. It is a bit pricey, BUT here is one tip. If you are willing to be flexible with your time when you book a treatment, wait until you get on the ship to book. I say that because every day they will run some sort of special on a particular treatment, and the special is a lot cheaper than booking it online. Also, if you don't want to spend the full price on a massage, but you want a massage at some point, every day up at the adult only pool area, they will put out those massage chairs you sit in with your face down, and for $25.00, you can get a 20 minute back and neck massage. It's really nice, and an affordable way to get a quick massage. But, again, it's spontaneous. You just have to wait to see when the chairs are out there, and then you just book it then.

BUT, if you would rather schedule a time and know you have a slot booked at the spa, my absolute favorite massage is called The Bamboo Massage! Oh, it's amazing!! :worship: It's expensive... around $150.00, plus tip. But, honestly, worth every penny if you are willing to splurge.

My DH and I also got the couples massage once. It was ok.... I wasn't terribly impressed, to be honest. But, the Bamboo Massage, in my opinon, was SO much better than just the basic European/Swedish massage you get at the Couple's Massage.

These are the only treatments I have gotten.

Our boys dress up in a suit and tie. I don't know if you have the store called, "Marshall's" where you live?? If you do, that is where I buy my kid's suits! Marshall's is a store where they sell designer or higher end clothes for super cheap... like they sell last year's season clothes, or just clothes that were overstocked at stores. I got a full Nautica brand suit, tie and dress shirt for my boys, each for $30.00 TOTAL! It was originally $150.00, but it was from last year's season, so the store that originally sold it couldn't sell it any longer since it was "out of date", but to me, I can not tell if it was meant for last season or this season!! ;)

But, if you don't have Marshall's, then I would just look for sales. Also, JC Penny (isn't that nation-wide??) usually will have inexpensive suits. Also, check online. Overstock.com is a good place to look... you can sometimes find inexpensive suits there.

Or, other places like Khols (if you have Khols where you live), or Target, or Walmat even sells suits!! They just aren't higher quality, but if they are only going to wear it once or twice, it doesn't matter if it's high quality or not.

If you get the suit now, I would just make sure it doesn't fit "JUST RIGHT" because if it's JUST PERFECT now, and he does go through a growth spurt, it might be a bit snug by November. So, when I buy suits, I buy them just a little loose so we can get a year's worth wear out of them. (I just get a belt for the pants). :)

Ok, everyone, have a great day!

I have never done it before, but I research like it is no ones business.
There are rental car places close, but I don't think they are walking distance. They will shuttle you, but I would drop off everything and then go to the rental car place.
Here is Port Canverals list of rentals and phone numbers toward the bottom.
http://www.portcanaveral.com/cruising/groundtransport.php

I don't think Darcie and I will dress up... The kids for sure will, bought a few things for it.
As for car rentals, I am new at this too but we are renting a car from Hertz at the airport for the day we arrive which is the day before, we did rent another car from them for the 12th and we will drive ourselves to the airport to head back home :(

It is an easy drive from MCO to Canaveral... Though there are tolls so be prepared for that. I don't know how much the are there but in North Orange County they were 50 to 1.50 each with about 5 fo them in a stretch of 20 miles. The rental car will have a sun pass, but they charge $3.00 a day on top of the tolls cost. Not really that bad for a one day rental.

This forum is getting nice and busy!

scrappinyogamom : Dh and i don't have transfer's yet to the ship either. We are waiting to see if my parents are coming or my sister. If my sister is then no worries, since she lives there we will use her car, and otherwise will just figure it out a couple weeks before we go.

Most definatly dressing up for Pirate Night. And that pirate booty sounded yummy, to bad i'm on a low carb diet.

Took the girls to the children's museum today an let them paint my face.

I painted Tiger faces on them............
Lol Happy Thursday Everyone!

Ps you can't tell but i'm wearing a Disney Shirt too :)

Oh good to know about the Tolls. We don't have tolls here in Ontario, well we sort of do but they just bill it to your house. It is only one HWY in Toronto that does that. It is used less because people don't want to pay for it. I use it so I don't have to fight the traffic on the other HWYs.

Alyssa,
love their face art :lmao: My oldest DD did that kind of stuff with her kids too. Great fun. Did you get a photo of the girls faces?

I went once with my oldest grandaughter (age 5)to a childrens museum and they had a long tunnel to walk through. I am 5 foot 7 and back then was about 110 pounds. She turned to me and said Grandma your too fat to go in there, you'll get stuck!!:rotfl2:

My DD was so embarassed. What she had meant was i was too tall. She could walk through and asssumed i would too so I wouldnt fit. I was going to crawl through.

That was my one and only experience at a childrens museum.:lmao:
I still remind my grandaughter about that and she is 20 now!!:goodvibes

Haha!! That is a funny story!! Yes, kid's can say pretty funny things, and not really mean what they say. I've had my moments of being embarrassed because of what my boys have said to other people, but it just came out wrong.

There was alot to read today! Alyssa, great face paint-your job must be alot fun some days! The "booty" t-shirt made me laugh out loud!
I was counting there are six cruises to the Eastern Caribbean before ours-I'm hoping someone writes a trip report when they return-has anyone seen recent photos of CC? I might look through some reports this weekend. I might take a look in Ross (similiar to Marshalls, Kathy!) and check out their dressy dresses-I have something I could wear, but I'm not crazy about it. I've seen some beautiful dresses on the formal wear thread on the cruise line forum.
Have a great weeekend everyone! :)

Sandy

I havnt heard about CC, but it should be great by the time we get there. I did read at Nassau the storm destroyed the straw market and snorkeling had almost no fish to see, they scattered in the rough seas.

Kathy

Kathy...Thanks for all the great information!!!! I like the idea of the chair massage for myself. Maybe I will look into the Bamboo for my Mom's gift. I think it would be better to wait, as you suggested, and look for the specials! I can see how much more I will know after we go the first time. :)

I cannot figure out how to reply where it shows the person's post above? I thought quick reply would do it, but no. I am not doing well with working these boards ;)

To reply with the quote, hit "quote" on the right side of the post. Go ahead, try it! You'll have another post on your way to 10 so you can post pictures.

Hi Everybody, working on my door magnets for our cruise. Hope everyone is getting excited and is getting things in order.
