November 5th 2011 Eastern on the Magic

Kathy,
Thats a great surprize. Too bad we are so far south of Portland or we could have met up for a bit.:goodvibes

Catch you monday evening,

Kathy

We are in Portland with Eric's parents... They are about to head down to their house in Cloverdale. :) Still can't believe DH pulled all this off!

Yes, Kathy, if you guys lived in the Portland area, we'd definitely meet up for a bit. :)

Have a good weekend everyone. I'll write again on Monday. :)

Kathy

Hey 2ksilverbullet (Matt) I noticed your kids are about the same age as mine (3.5 and 1.5 at time of our cruise) I also noticed you are outside of pittsburgh. I am directly north by Slippery Rock. It will be good to have some locals on the boat :) Maybe we can get a Pens game while on the boat?? What would it take to do that?

Happy saturday everyone,

Hope your holiday weekend is off to a great start.:goodvibes
Its going to be a hot weekend for us, in the 90's which for the Northwest is hot. Thank goodness we don't really get the humidity here like you do back east.

Not sure what I will be doing today. But sometime this weekend I hope to shop for some new walking soes for the cruise. I need a few weeks to break them in, so I want to look now for them, plus all the back to school sales include adult size shoes, so I may find a great buy this weekend.

Anybody doing a BBQ on Labor Day?? I am thinking about it. It will be too hot to cook inside.

Back later, just wanted to say a quick good morning to everyone,

Kathy

Looks like everybody is out enjoying the holiday weekend.
The last time we were at the water parks at wdw, we realized that we could use some water shoes. I've been looking for some on sale all summer and finally found some. Lands End has them on sale for adults, ranging from $12 to $14. I grabbed a pair for myself, DH and my mom (rooming next to us on cruise), and found a free shipping coupon too. Thought I would pass on a great savings and possibly a reminder too!
GreensboroKG:can't believe an upgrade was available, the last time I checked online, there were not many rooms left, so congrats. I've been thinking of upgrading since we booked, but we have been too cheap, probably couldn't get the side by side rooms anyway!

I sent out revised copies of all the lists today. So if you didnt receive a new CM list please let me know.

Rob-Jen and Matt, Jai I and switzert I still need an e-mail address from all of you so I can send you a copy of the list.

Please PM me or e-mail it ot me at sixtoedfrog@yahoo,com so I can get you out your list,

Thanks,
Kathy

So I checked the DCL website and they have several more room available than the last time I checked. Does anyone have an explanation? Is it they have opened up rooms that they placed on hold (if they even do that) or did lots of people cancel? Boy, it is tempting to upgrade. We are on deck 6 and their are 2 porthole rooms available in the forward, that are separated by only 1 room. (we don't have adjoining rooms anyway) Although we did choose mid ship due to less motion in that area. (Kids and their gma's 1st cruise..ever)

Mid ship is much more stable. Forward is pretty bouncy at times.
Yes people cancel, or change what rooms they have all the time. Plus sometimes if they have trouble filling the ship they will take people with GTY rooms and switch them around so it opens up the rooms that are the easiest for them to fill.

It is crazy how it works sometimes.

A bar that has Yuengling! :thumbsup2

Matt,
great to know your name. When I saw your posting name about the silver bullet I thought immediately about Werewolves.:lmao:
I also have 4 kids but mine are grown now They must keep you busy. I'm sure they will have a blast on the cruise.

I have added you to the Cruise mates list. Once you decide about the FE let me know. Also we have alist of all the kids and their ages so hopefully the parents can help them find a friend to get aquianted with before the cruise, via e-mail or PM here on the boards.
If its ok I would like to list your kid son that list too.

These lists only go to the people on them. I never post them on the boards for privacy. On the kids list some parents have included their e-mail address for ease of contacting each other. If you want that too, please let me know. You dont have enough posts to PM anybody yet. If you have questions about the FE feel free to ask on this thread or e-mail me and I will be happy to help you.
Its really quite simple, easy and meant to be inexpensive. Just another fun aspect of the cruise.:goodvibes

Kathy

Thanks again Kathy, I sent you an email this morning. You can add my email address to the list.

On another note, has anyone flown Air Tran before? They're starting to irritate me. They've changed my flight 2 times already and now the latest one they have me on is too close to comfort for me (11am) on my return flight and the next flight isn't until 4pm, which with their crappy selections and layovers, gets me home at 11+ pm...

I'm wondering if I should just cancel the flights and go with another airline or if I should hold out.

Morning all,

Hi Matt, got your e-mail and sent you out the list. So if it hasnt arrived please let me know.:goodvibes

I am so happy I actually found 2 pairs of walking shoes so I am set for the cruise. Just need to break them in.:thumbsup2

Another hot day today, guess that will just get us ready for the tropics in November.

Back in a few hours,

Kathy

Matt,
we have never used that airline before. But we have used Delta, American and Continental and all of them change our flights at least once before our trip.
Last week they changed our flight back so we too would arrive late at night instead of late afternoon. I expect it to be changed again. We usually wait until about 2 weeks prior to the cruise then if we find a better flight we change it. Usually unless we cancel completely and rebook which can be costly we just have to roll with the punches and hope for the best.

For us we fly across the entire U.S, so we are exhausted by the time we get back even if they dont mess with our time and try to spend the night at a hotel before driving home.

If you rebook now, even with someone else the odds are you will still get changed at least once.
Hope it works out ok for you,

Kathy

Boy it's quiet here today. I guess everyone is out enjoying the holiday weekend.

I just finished the laundry, vacuuming the place, and fixing lunch. Now ot sit down and relax for a few minutes. May even pop in a movie this evening.

Hope someone else will be around today to post.

Will be back later,

Kathy

Hey everybody! We just got back from vacation and haven't tried to read through everything yet, but I'll work on it tonight! :)

Happy Friday everyone! Welcome to Princess Ti and Melissa! and Kathy, thank you for posting the great pictures-I wish we were flying in earlier and could lounge around that pool for a while, but we don't get in until about 8:00. And congrats on the baby granddaughter-to-be! We had our first grandchild last August and being a grandparent is just the best thing ever, isn't it? He is a little darling-I'm already planning on getting one of those Nemo sandbuckets for him on CC. We have a place at the beach in Maryland (and hopefully it will still be there after Irene!) and he loves playing in the sand. Was it Dani and her family that was headed to the NJ for their vacation this week? I hope you are able to go after the storm passes-it looks like beautiful weather once it goes by. My husband is out buying extra batteries and a few things in case we lose power here in PA. We are expecting wind and heavy rain. Today is beautiful so when he gets home I think I will go for a long walk and enjoy the sun.
Have a safe weekend east-coasters!

Sandy

Hi Sandy, yes we headed to the NJ shore right after the hurricane. We had to wait a day to make sure there were no problems with the house we rented, but we were still able to go. Weather was great!

So glad you were able to take your vacation! The weather has been beautiful this past week-other than last Saturday, you picked a great week to be at the beach!

Kathy, thank you for the link-I will look next weekend at the Magic sailing out of PC. Here is a question for your expertise! Since we're staying at the Hyatt the night before and will check in at the airport, do I still need to check in online?? In 1998 we did the Land and Sea cruise to the Bahamas and of course, on-line check in was not even an issue. Thanks for your help! :)

Sandy

Matt: A bar with Yuengling and a Pens game? Is that possible in a far off country of Florida?

Yes still do the on line check in. It makes everything so much easier and quicker at the terminal. Its a great system to get everyone through the lines in half the time it use to take.

Kathy

We just finished watching a cruise video we made on our 2nd Disney cruise on the Wonder. Boy things sure look different now on Castaway Cay.
I was also a lot skinnier back then. LOL!!!

Welcome back Danielle,
Glad you had a great time.
I hope you took some pictures to share with us.

Changes in DCL's alcohol policy

Some cruise lines forbid you completely from bringing alcohol on board, but Disney Cruise Line has always been an exception. Now, the line is tightening the rules starting on September 19. Here are the new restrictions:

-You may bring one bottle of wine or champage per person over age 21, or 6 bottles or cans of beer

-The alcoholic beverages must be carried onto the ship

-Alcohol found in checked luggage will be confiscated

-Excess alcohol found in carry-on luggage will be confiscated

As always, Disney Cruise Line charges a corkage fee for personal bottles of wine brought into the restaurants. Expect to pay $20 per bottle."

OH NO!! This is terrible news!! One bottle per person?! There goes the huge perk of being able to bring your own on board :( This is going to cost us hundreds of extra dollars. We aren't huge drunks or anything, but I can only drink certain wines b/c of migraines and we were planning on bringing that, plus a bottle of something for DH and probably some beer.

Thanks for the heads up.
