November 5th 2011 Eastern on the Magic

It is also a good idea to do it throughout the cruise rather than all at one time because it makes for a nice surprise to get unexpected gifts throughout the cruise; it will be great fun for the young ones.

I agree, it is great for the young ones but also us old ones:rotfl2: I love peaking in the FE each time i return to the room.

Holy cow, I haven't checked back on the site in a couple months, looks like I have a lot of reading to get caught up on!

This is our family's first cruise (there's 6 of us comin'!) and first real vacation in years. We're not really sure what to expect (besides fun of course) and what to do so I may be asking questions down the road that a noob would ask. lol.

PS - Kathy I tried to PM you but I guess I need 10 posts.

2KSilverbullet:

Welcome back! Everyone is pretty busy on the board. Are you doing the "fish-extenders"? We are and looks to be great fun. Now you have to get your 10 posts and post pictures of yourself and all your pets, b/c as you see, that's how we roll.

Keep in touch,

Scott

Feel free to e-mail me at sixtoedfrog@yahoo.com

Then I will get all your information and add you to our cruise mates list before I send it out to everyone this week. Plus if you dont know what the FE is I will be happy to explain it to you. Then if you want to join in that fun I will also add you to that list.:goodvibes

Plus we have a list of the kids and their ages so the parents can find kids in the age group of their kids and help them to get aquainted before the cruise via e-mail or PM's. Kids love the cruise more if they have a friend to hang in the clubs with.

I will be looking forward to hearing from you soon!!!

I would like to ask you what your first name is?

I am one of 2 Kathys and DH is Greg.

Hi everyone,

Welcome back to the boards, 2KSilverbullet! Yes, this group has really come alive, and there are so many nice people here. Look forward to hearing from you more. :)

Well, our summer has taken a bit of a vacation from us, BUT it's supposed to be back in the 80's for Labor Day Weekend!! :cool1:

Today, it was low 60's (which is very warm compared to winters, of course, but cold for summer), and mostly cloudy with some sun breaks, but my boys still wanted to go to the lake! We live about 1/4 mile from a beach on a major lake in the area, so the boys wanted to go to the "beach" and play in the water. (I put beach in quotes because for us, this is about as good of a beach as we get! Nothing like what's coming Nov 5 - 12 :cool1:). The water temp a the lake is about 67 degrees, so definitely not Castaway Cay :lmao:

Here are a couple pictures of the boys playing in the water... they had a great time, but the funniest part (which will show you how cold they got) is after we got home and they showered off, they asked me to make them hot chocolate and they wrapped up in blankets... on a summer afternnoon!

I hope everyone had a nice day. Tomorrow I'll be at the kid's school for a good share of the morning helping out with some PTSA stuff prepping for school to start next week (I'm on the PTSA board) and then there is a meet and greet at the boy's school in the afternoon where they get to "meet and greet" their teachers and see their classrooms... the boys are very excited! Then, this is the last weekend before we are back to school, which means one step closer to our cruise!!

Have a good evening, everyone!
Kathy

Hi Kathy,
watching your boys in the lake gave me the shivers:lmao:
We were 39 last night:scared1: You got the same cool jet stream as us I am sure.
Suppose to be 80 this afternoon then 90's the next few days. Since our summer was like your and didnt start until August I am hoping for a good September:goodvibes

Have fun at school!!

Kathy

Good morning to everyone,
our group is growing as more people start posting again. I have received a couple PM's from people who posted months ago and they are still coming and will post again soon, just getting their families set in the school routine once again. So I will add them to the CM list and FE list before sending out a new copy to everyone.

I am waiting for one person to send their their information for the FE so please be patient for getting the updated list. I may not get it out until sunday or monday. I figure its better to wait a couple days to send it and have it accurate, rather than send it and a day later I have more to add.

How ever if they dont get back to me by the end of the weekend I will go ahead and send it to everyone. So it wont be too long before you receive it.:thumbsup2

I have my furnace on today which is so crazy for this time of the year but it was so cold today. BRRR!!! Good old Northwest weather.

I hope some of you will be looking for a few more photos ot post soon. Anybody take photos of the first day back to school for the kids??

I will look around for a few more cruising photos to share in the next few days.

Anybody doing something special for the last 3 day weekend of summer??

Kathy

I have a challenge for everyone,

look at how many posts you have (by your posting name)
Then pick a number that will be your goal to reach by the time you leave for the cruise.

Then lets see if you can not only reach that goal but pass it up.:cool1:

Mine is 19,560 so I will set a goal 20,000 posts by cruise time.

Now you must pick a number thats not just 5 or 10 posts away, lets be realistic about this. Post what your goal is and we shall see who gets there!!
Yes I will be keeping a list of your goals. LOL!!!

Good morning everyone!

Kathy, so great to hear that there are more people joing the group! yay! I have been getting really excited about the FE's now that I decided to do it. I really did not think it'd be this much fun to do! I have found myself already thinking about FE gifts, and I'm going to figure out my FE this next week (I'm going to try to make my FE myself... Lord Willing! :worship: I'm SOOOOO not crafty at all, but we'll see if it comes out remotely resembling an FE). Worst case, I know I can always buy one from the lady who makes them, but I'm going to see if I can make one for cheaper. We'll see. When I get a finished product, if it's decent enough to use, I'll take a picture of it and show everyone.

Yes, we must have the same cold jet stream you guys are having. I'm amazed how much colder you get at night than we do. I forget exactly where you live in Oregon again. You are inland, right? Is it more eastern Oregon? How far of a drive from Portland are you?? I know you told me once where you live, but I didn't recognize the town. What is the closest well known city/town to where you live? My inlaws live in Cloverdale near Tillamook (I think you know that since we discussed that once), and I know it gets a lot colder than we get at night at their place.... but it rarely gets warmer than us, but it sounds like you get warmer on the hot days. It is supposed to be in the 70's this afternoon, and low 80's tomorrow and the weekend... not 90 like you guys.

I will post back to school photos next week of the boys. :) And, I just haven't had time, but when I have time, I'll find some previous Disney Cruise photos of us to post for everyone to see. :)

As for this weekend, I have a feeling my DH has something up his sleeve!! I could be wrong, but it's hard to pull a surprise off with me, and I think he is planning something fun for our familythis weekend... I have no idea. He has just been acting like something is up... I could be wrong, but I will see. :thumbsup2 I will let you guys know. He has done this from time to time... pulled off surprise little getaways for our family (I have done the same, too... I surprised DH and the boys in April this year and took everyone to Disneyland!! Nobody knew at all until we were driving to the airport. They were SOOOOO suprised!). I am sure DH is not doing anything like that, but I do think he has something brewing. We'll see.

I love your challenge!! Ok, I'm in for the challenge. This post will be 219 for me. So, I say 350 by the time we leave on November 5. We'll see! That is 131 more posts, and we have 65 more days until we sail :cool1:, so that is on average 2 posts a day. I think I can do that! I know there will be some days where I can't post at all, and other days where I can post a few times, so I think I can average 2 a day. We'll see!!! I'm always up for a challenge! :)

Ok, that said... I'm off to go for a run outside! :woohoo:

Take care,
Kathy

Ok Kathy, I have you added to the goal list.:thumbsup2 That will keep you remembering to post everyday that you can.:cool1:

I know where Cloverdale is but I am way far from there.

If you look at a Map of Oregon and see I-5 going down the state you will see down south of Portland is Cottage Grove and then farther down is Roseburg. I am about half way between the two cities.
My address says Oakland but I am right on the outskirts of the the city boundaries and no where close to that tiny city. I am out in the country with just farms around me and a truck stop and Dennys are close by. Thats all.
It takes about 2 hour son the freeway at 70 MPH to get to Portland. 3 hours from the Portland airport, maybe a bit longer.

I will be looking forward to seeing your photos when you get them posted.:goodvibes

Back later, I am off to walk my dogs and wash the dishes,

Kathy

Afternoon all!

Kathy, my mom and dad are no longer crusing with us, due to my dad needing heart surgery. So of course we won't be celebrating her birthday onboard now:(

I think we are going to participate in the FE, if I can get my act together!!

I can't remember my cabin #. I think it is 5520 (we scored one on the SPH rooms) I will PM it to you later!

Have a good day everyone and I will checking in later!!

Claire

So DH and I are kind of celebrating our anniversary, it is in may but this is the only time either of us could celebrate it because of his Med school schedule. Since it is the 1st day of september i have begun my disney count down with my charges, we are making a chain with 26 links tonight since i am working late and will tear off one each day. They are beyond excited about going to see "THE CASTLE" (thats what they call it) and mickey mouse.
Post goal: This is 22 so I will attempt for at least 50, thats about 3 a week, since i don't get to post on weekends and not everyday at work i think i can manage that.
Kathy (run): Your boys look like they are having a blast. We are getting a cold front here. It is only going to be 97 this weekend!
I will be spending my weekend like i do the first and third weekends of each month, volunteering at Houston Zoo. Be jealous i will be playing with Red Pandas, pygmy marmosets and other assorted exotic species.
Well i'm off to do the girls dishes and laundry and call my ex energy company and argue about a bill. Hope everyone has a great weekend!
Alyssa

Back to work...
Tanya

Claire,

Sorry to hear your parents won't be coming but your dads health is the most important thing for now. I have changed your informationin the CM list.
I am really happy you decided to do the FE. As soon as you send me your cabin number I will get your family added to the list:woohoo:

You ladies are giving some good predictions for your posting total. I never thought to stop and fugure out how many posts I need per day to make my goal. guess i will do my normal 3 to 5 daily posts and see what happens. Some days I am here more, some less.

I made a list of all our predictions and will add more of our friends here as they give me their number, that way we dont have to remember.

Kathy

Tanya,
I will be watching for your kids school pictures next week:thumbsup2

Alyssa, i will add your celebrating your anniversary. Sometimes you just have to celebrate when you can find the time:goodvibes

Kathy

So excited!! 60 days until we leave for Florida. Spending a few days at Universal Studios and with family in Melbourne. Then on the Cruise!! Waiting on my F/E to arrive in the mail!

Hi again everyone,

The kids and I just got back from school. We were there all morning, stuffing hundreds upon hundreds of back to school packets for Tuesday for all of the kids in the school to bring home to their parents. What a job, but we got the job done (there were about 7 parents and about 6 kids helping). Then, we went to "meet" the boy's teachers for this year (I already know the teachers, so that is why I put "meet" in quotes). But, both boys are very excited that their good friends are in their classes this year! I also like their teachers! So, I think it's going to be a good school year! Can't believe they go back Tuesday!

Ok Kathy, I have you added to the goal list.:thumbsup2 That will keep you remembering to post everyday that you can.:cool1:

Ok, I just looked at a map... now I have a mental image of the area of Oregon you live. Yes, you are much farther south than I thought! So, when you travel (via flying), do you fly out of Portland (PDX), or is there a smaller airport closer to you that you can fly out of? My inlaws have to drive to Portland (2 hours drive) anytime they do air travel... they are used to it, though. I wish so bad there was a small commercial airport near Tillamook or Lincoln City, because boy, that 5 hour drive (and that is without any traffic) sure can be tedious and looooong! We always say that if there were a small airport down there, we'd pay the money to fly to save the stress of driving and hearing 5 gazillion times in the back seat from the kids, "are we there yet?" haha! One time we did do Amtrack down there, but the closest we could get was Salem, so my inlaws just picked us up, but we still had a 1 1/2 hour drive... there is just no easy or fast way to get to their house. You probably feel the same about your place... although, since you have a motorhome, you know how to do road trips in style!!! That is awesome! :) :)

Kathy (run): Your boys look like they are having a blast. We are getting a cold front here. It is only going to be 97 this weekend!

I love it... a cold front is 97 degrees. :lmao:

And, how awesome that you get to volunteer with all these exotic species!! Wow! I would LOVE that!! What a great opportunity this is for you! Can you get pictures and post them? I'd love to see them.

Good luck with the energy company... hope you win the argument! :)

Yah, I am a numbers person, and I have more of an analytical mind. :teacher: So, when I set goals, I do the math or figure out logically what is a realistic goal before I make the goal, because I'm one of those people who can't stand it when I make a goal and then I can't reach it (which definitely does happen, but I make every effort to reach my goals! So, I have to make sure I don't make goals that are impossible to reach. :) )

Here's the list of my entourage:
Matt (yours truly)
Misty (wife, uhh, DW I guess she's referred to? lol), we're both in our mid-30's
Nick - 14
Colt - 11
Logan - 4
Alexa - 1 (she'll be almost 2 by cruise time)

Thanks again everyone, we're getting more and more excited as the trip gets closer!

Okay, Gma Kathy, I'm in: I'm going to say 750 (I have 681) posts. Gma Kathy and Loves to Run Kathy, I love seeing your pictures from the beautiful Northwest! Other than 5 days in San Francisco, I have never been further west than Illinois! My husband was doing some work in New Mexico in 2001 and I was supposed to fly out, but 9/11 happenend::sad1: We both would love to take a trip to the west coast one day!
MulanRocks, what a great volunteer job-have you ever taken the backstage tour at AK? My husband and I took the tour several years ago and really enjoyed it.
I have to say we're having beautiful weather right now-78 and sunny. We'd love to go to our place at the beach, but I can't take off Tuesday (got to save those personal days for November!) so it would be a horrible drive home on Monday with six million other people. So, maybe a quiet weekend with our daughter, her husband and our darling grandson! I hope everyone has a safe and relaxing weekend! :)
