November 5th 2011 Eastern on the Magic

Hello! I'm a newbie, first cruise & first post on the forum. I am so happy to have finally found info on the fish extenders! :cheer2: I would love to get more info and sign up. How many gifts do I bring, etc?
Thanks so much,
Michele

sorry for the duplicate post--blonde moment!
Another question;

do we need passports or will birth certs do?
thanks

Good Morning ALL,

Scrappinyogamom... When i did the online check in it asked for passport, but I am from Canada so we need them anyways... Just checked in and all went well.... :)

Daniellenbella: Hope you get back on tonight... We took the 11:30a port time.

We are second seating for dining... I was a little upset about it at first, then talk it out with all of you and my sister I think we will just make it work to what it is... We are on vacation and we all are just going to wine and dine :)

Hi all - good weekend here.

Reading Lovestorun's posts about Bernards/Maho beach has us thinking. We want to go to a beach to swim for a few hours than would also like to go to Maho Beach in the afternoon. From what I read the water is not calm at Maho Beach. Our son 4 would not enjoy that but he loves planes so we are thinking of going there in the afternoon. We have been to Orient and Dawn Beaches before and may just go to the beach in town (Phillipsburg) for the morning then head to Maho beach. If anyone else is still going to do that maybe we can share a larger taxi/van.

Still have no clue on St. Thomas. We want to go to a beach and still may do a cab early in the morning to Magens bay or some other beach then come back to town around noon to walk around before heading back to the ship. Wanted to go to St Johns but not enough time and expensive for 4 people. We were there pre-kids and loved it.

At Castaway we may have the kids go to camp on the island in the morning so we can go snorkeling than pick up the kids for the last beach day.

Howdy everyone,

so good to read everyone seemed to get booked what they wanted. Changing back to late dinner is usually really easy to do because most want early with young kids. Its changing to early thats hard. I think if you just give DCL or your TA a call it will be easy. If not do it once you board the ship.

WELCOME

Michele and family. Happy to have anothe rnew family join us here. I am Kathy. There are more than one Kathy's here but i am the keepe rof the FE list, so I am the one youneed to contact about it.:thumbsup2

Since you dont have enough post to send me a PM yet, you can e-mail me at sixtoedfrog@yahoo.com . Just send me your cabin number if you have it, your e-mail address so I can send you a copy of the list and all your names and ages of the kids again . That way I will get it all correct on the list.
I think we have 7 or 8 familes so far doing the FE. Of course that will grow as we add more families.

We also are having a meet the first day, that information will be on the list I send you too. :goodvibes

Please feel free to ask any questions you might have. No question is a dumb one. We all get questions from now and then. There are a few of us who have cruised DCL before and can probably answer your questions. Happy to help when I can.

Ok, YES you need passports because St.Maartin is out of the country. Best send for them right away. Should only take 6 to 8 weeks to get them, but you dont want to take chances of missing a cruise due to a late arrival of a passport. Our son who is cruising with us this trip had to send off for his when we booked a couple weeks ago.

Good to see us on page 27 already. We will hit 100 pages by cruise time if we keep this up!!!:cool1:

I say this every Monday,
We are 1 week closer to the cruise :woohoo::woohoo::woohoo:

Back later,

Kathy

Happy Monday!

Kathy, our Palo dinner is Thurs, at 6:30 I believe. We were waitlisted for the 1st dinner so I guess we got it. I never thought of requesting to be removed from the waitlist....I'm going to call about it this morning. We really like the idea of Bella being able to eat then get picked up for the kids club and they only do that for the 2nd seating so we are going to try to get moved back. Thanks for the tip on the message chairs, I think we'll definately look for those!

How funny! Our Palo reservations are for 6:30 PM on Thursday, so we'll probably see you guys there. Here is a tip for Palo (this is for everyone), and that is go to Palo sometime before your reservations (just stop in the restaurant once it's open), and request a window seat for your reservation. If you are eating during sunset, a window seat is awesome. If you are eating after sunset when it's dark, it's still nice, but doesn't matter as much, I guess, but with a window seat no matter what, you feel you have a bit more privacy because the non-window seat tables are more out in the open... it's hard to describe. Anyway, a window seat, in my opinion, is more desirable. But, ALL tables are great... don't get me wrong...Palo is top notch across the board. But, we've always gone up to Palo a few days before our reservations and requested a window seat in person to the hostess, and we've always gotten a window seat. :)

You can also request a window seat once you arrive to your reservations, but either you'll have to wait a while for a window seat to open, or they just may not be one open at all, but on our first cruise (we did not know about requesting to Palo early for a window seat), so we requested one once we arrived, and they said we'd have to wait 20 minutes for one, and that was fine... we waited... we just sat at the bar and had a drink. But, the times we requested a window seat a few days before our reservations, they had one ready and waiting for us when we arrived. :)

I'm a total newbie here and on DCL. We too are from NJ, and have an 8 yo boy & 6 yo girl. We are cruising with our good friends who have a 7 yo girl. I would like to do something special for the kids and the fish extenders sound awesome! :cheer2::cheer2: How do I sign up?
Thanks in advance, and sorry if I ask any dumb questions

Welcome!!! Glad you are joining... this is a fun group of people!

Hi all - good weekend here.

At Castaway we may have the kids go to camp on the island in the morning so we can go snorkeling than pick up the kids for the last beach day.

Well, I know you don't want to go to Maho beach earlier in the day, but since we all should be meeting at the cruise meet, and then we'll know what each other looks like, when you get to Maho beach in the afternoon, if you see us there, you are welcome to share a cab back with us... if all goes as we hope, we'll plan to stay at Maho beach until like 4 PM, but if we feel by 3:00 we've seen all we want to do and do all we want to do, then we'll leave earlier, but for now, we are planning to stay until 4 PM because a lot of the big 747's and Airbus 340's take off closer to 4 PM.

Yah, I have also read the water is not great for kids and swimming at Maho beach, so I agree with you. I have read that there is a big drop off in the water, so it's not really safe for kids. Our boys already know this, and they still want to spend the day at Maho Beach. :) But, they can wade in the water, so they'll just do that... we'll get a lot of beach swimming in at St. Thomas and Castaway Cay.

BTW, we have put our kids in Scuttles Cove before, and they liked it. There is shade, and if I remember right, I think there might be like a little sprinkler there for the kids to run around in if it's super hot. But, I can't remember exactly. But, DH and I put our boys in Scuttles Cove for an hour or so back in 2009 so we could go check out serenity bay and have a drink at the bar. :) :) But, for the most part, we just enjoyed being on the family beach and watching the boys play in the water.

Okay finally booked everything! Disney gave me a heart attack though. After sorting through everything and finally figuring out all the times and excursions DH and i wanted (three phone calls to him and one to my mom lol) i hit reserve and BAM Disney planning service is down........
After trying to pull up my reservation every five minutes, it finally worked (20 min later). Now we are all booked and ready to cruise.

This is Kira, we adopted her and her sister together. Sadly her sister got sick and passed away. So we got this girl to keep Kira company.

Alyssa,
Love your babies, they are so cute. My girls always get a special birthday dinner. But havnt done the streamers, they would probably try to eat them. LOL!!
Usually a hamburger surrounded by mac and cheese. My son gets his dogs a pot roast on their birthday and gives them the entire roast to chow down on.:lmao: His dogs are large labs.

Your horse is really beautiful. I have riden twice and the 2nd time was NOT a good ride so never went again. But the first ride was fun.:goodvibes

I will find photos of my babies to share too.
I have more photos of them than I do my kids on my computer;)

This is Minnie. She likes to drive the motorhome. Everytime we stop she jumps to the drivers seat.

Who else has 4 legged babies?? 3 of us have posted our photos of our extended family. Lets see who else has some critters.

How cute!!! I love all of the dog pictures (and the horse picture!!!). :) :) I am a huge animal lover. My DH always calls me Dr. Doolittle because for some reason, and can almost get any animal to come to me (well, not wild animals, but dogs and cats on the streets). But, we even get so many squirrels and rabbits in our back yard, and when I am outside, they don't run away from me.

We used to have a little dog. We loved him SOOOO much!! He was a miniature daschund (miniature weiner dog), and his name was Scooby. :) We decided to be contradicting and give 9 lb dog the name of a famous great dane! :rotfl2: But, his name fit him perfectly. He was little, but he had a big personality!!!

Anyway, he suddenly got very sick when he was 7 years old (we got him when he was 9 weeks old). We did everything we could to save him, and spend a LOT OF $$$$$! He had blood transfusions (3 of them, I think), was on expensive medications, in and out of the animal hospital... but it got to the point where the disease was winning, and we had to make a choice to keep treating him in hopes to get rid of the disease, or to put him to sleep. It was the absolute hardest decisions we've ever had to make in our entire lives together. But, the vet told us that if we kept treating him, he'd need more blood transfusions, stay on the meds, and the vet still only gave him an 80% chance of pulling through, and she said they wouldn't even be able to guarentee that 80% chance for another several weeks. Well, each week, more money was spent, Scooby's quality of life was going down hill.... so we decided since there was not a 100% chance of recovery, and we had already spent a ton of money, and he was just suffering, we decided the most humane thing was to put him down.

But, because we had time (a few days between when we decided to put him down from when they did actually put him to sleep... the let him come home for 3 days to just spend time with us so we could all say our goodbyes), but I got one of those garden stones from a craft store where you mix up the concrete mixture and you can decorate it how you want, I got that, and put his 4 paw prints in the stone, and then the boys and I decorated it with heart shaped stones, and then I wrote in it, Scooby 1999-2006.

That was the BEST thing ever, because we have his paw prints always with us. :) I think only animal lovers would understand why we did this. People who don't love animals thought it was goofy what I did, but oh well.... that is what they think.

We have not gotten another dog since. Our boys keep asking for one, but honestly, now the boys are getting older, we travel SO much and we are very busy, so we are just not home a lot, so if we got a dog, we'd have to really change our lifestyle, but at this point, we aren't ready for that. I would never get a dog if we could not be home a lot with him/her... I'm not into getting a dog, and leaving him/her home all day by themselves, or putting them in the kennel all the time.

But, the funny thing with Scooby (talking about saying your animals are your kids), is when people would ask me how many kids I have, I would ALWAYS respond by saying, "I have 3 boys, but one of them is furry." I would get the oddest looks because people who do not have animals would never get it. :rotfl2: But, it was true! I had 3 boys, but one of them was furry!! :)

So, that is the story of our little Scooby dog. He was precious, and we have pictures of him in our house, so he definitely has not been forgotten. We'll get another dog sometime... probably when the boys are older and can help out with the dog more. We'll see. But, my closest friend has a little dog, and she lets us borrow her dog for a day from time to time to get our dog fix, so that is nice. :)

Kathy

Kathy,
I understand completely about the stone and paw prints. That was a wonderful thing to do. I iwll probably do some kind of marker too.

We had a couple dogs when the kids were little, but none sense then, until Minnie showed up starving at our BBQ one night. Nobody claimed her so we took her. Of course i fed her and gave her water when she first showed up dragging a big old heavy chain.
After we adopted her the vet said under her black fur was scares where she had been abused. Probably used as a bait dog to train other dogs to fight to kill. It took many months for her to trust us but now she is just a wonderfiul girl. She was my birthday present.
Then on Mothers day there was a cute pup at the Flea market that was going to be put down. Because nobody wanted her.
Greg and Peter got her for me for mothers day, then found out she was infested with internal parasites, so she would of died either way if we hadnt got her. She got them from being kept in her own filth.

These will be the last 2 because by the time they are gone we will be so old it wouldnt be fair to an aminal to give them a home then pass away before they do.

So now they are my babies!!

Kathy

Sometime i will post a photo of Minnie sitting.
She thinks she is a person.
So when she sits in a chair or on the couch she scoots back and sits up like a person until her back gets tired.:lmao: Her paws just hang in the air as she sits there. Crazy pup!!

Anybody elses dogs have an odd habit they do??

Our little dog, Scooby, used to LOVE to sit on top of our dryer when it was going (because it was hot and I think he liked the vibrations of the dryer), BUT I'd start up the dryer, and he'd run into the laundry room and wag his tail and look up at the dryer and bark... that was his way of asking to go up on the dryer. So, I'd put him on the dryer and no kidding.... half of the time we had him on there, he'd just sing (howl). SOOOOOO funny!!!!!!!!! :rotfl2:

That was probably the oddest thing he did, but it was super cute!

I dug out a picture of Scooby "singing" on our dryer. He LOVED the dryer... if only I could have trained him to actually DO the laundry! :rotfl:

He was such a sweet little dog!! We miss him a ton, but have SO many pictures of him, so he definitely will never be forgotten!! :)

Those are AWESOME!!
Did you design them yourself??

If you wear those the first day you will be easy for us to spot you.:cool1:
I especially love the car with a bunch of characters in it. That's my favorite one!!
Now seeing those makes me want to design a shirt or two. I havn't done that for a few cruises.
Those will look so great on your guys.
Kathy

OH I love all the aninmals pics... We had a dog name Nikita a German Shepard. I had to give her up four years ago when my ex and I split up. I couldn't take her where I was going and he couldn't either. I had to give her up to the OSPCA. A week later I got a call from them as someone adopted her and they wanted to contact me. The lady called me and we just connected. I stayed in touch with Nikita's new mom and the kids and I went to visit them both every so often. Nikita passed away in March this year she was 13 years old. It was the hardest thing that I ever had to do with Nikita but I am glad we were still apart of her life and her new family.

Kathy,

Well, I guess they are semi-self-designed, we ordered them from a website. But I thought it was a neat idea, and we'll be able to find each other easily :)

So sad to tell you that we have jumped ship.:sad1: We will be cruising on the Norwegain Sun on November 5 out of Port Canaveral instead. We have very good friends that we cruise with sometimes. We had originally booked on the Sun with them last winter, but they cancelled due to illness in the family. Well things are looking up for them and they decided they wanted to go last week. Unfortunately, the Disney Magic was cost prohibitive for them. My brother has a cruise agency, Cruise One of Plano, and he sure scrambled to get us great cabins with the same special from last winter (I'm sure he isn't happy with me after having to cancel my Disney cruise and rebook the others at the last minute but that is what brothers are for.:rotfl2: lol)

I will really miss meeting you all. I was enjoying the disboards so much, this was a first for us writing on Disboards.

Kathy, Mom x 4 , you really do a great job getting everyone all pumped up for the cruise!:cheer2: You give such good info and advice out! I would like to have told you that in person.

Kathy, Loves to Run, I was really looking forward to meeting you and your family. It seem like our sons would have really hit it off. Brandon is very upset that he does not get to meet Tyler and Ryan. And of course he will not get to see the planes take off at Maho Beach.:sad1:

I will look forward to the Disney Dream in May. We are planning to go May 10 which is Mother's Day weekend. I am sad to cancel this cruise but I know I will have a great time with our friends. They have twin daughters that Brandon is very close to. :dance3:

Happy Sailing to you all! I will think of you as I sail out on the Norwegian Sun!:yay: I will cry if I hear the horn blow "When you wish upon a Star":sad2:
