November 24, 2014 Disney Dream Thanksgiving Cruise

Can someone explain the details? I've seen some posts with photos of the FEs, but how does it work exactly?

I love that a lot of our kids are all the same ages :) This is going to be a fun cruise:goodvibes

You walk around putting gifts outside of the rooms of the people signed up. Gifts can be per cabin or per person per cabin depending on the time, effort, and details you want to spend. I have seen people customize for each person with their names and favorite character.

http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=2907032 Here is a link to homemade FE's and what people have done in the past :)

I have never participated, but I was signed up for one in Aug 2014. They seem to cut the cabin sign up at 25 cabins per group. Calling the first Group Mickey and the 2nd Group Donald..

The sooner you sign up, the easier it is to organize. I'm away almost the entire month of Oct and 1/2 of Sept. So I will not be able to participate. My 2014 fall is insane :upsidedow

FE is short for fish extenders. The "fish" are located next to your door and you hang a FE (fabric/plastic pocket holder for those playing in your family/group. It can also be a bag of sorts and there are a lot of examples of others who have bought or made them on the disboards & Pinterest .

Those that are playing buy or make "gifts" for those in their group. You can buy/make 1 gift per family or buy/make separate gifts for everyone in their family. You give the gifts 1 time during the cruise.
These gifts can be anything from items from your country/homestate to magnets, post cards, Disney items, tatoos, pirate, princess stuff, stickers, candy, etc. It can be homemade items too.( I found a lot of my ideas on Pinterest.)They don't have to be that expensive. It is a lot of fun! We love going back to our room to see if we got anything in our FE. I hope that I answered most of your questions, but please let me know if you have anymore. Please let me know if you are interested in playing and I can add you to the list.

I will begin working on our FE list. Please let me know if you would like to join.

Happy New Year to all my Thanksgiving Cruisers!! Hope you all have an awesome start to the new year:cool1:

Is anyone planning on going to WDW before or after the cruise? I am thinking about booking a room Fri - Mon 21-24.

We are DVC members, and I booked the Sat and Sun nights before the cruise and the Fri night the cruise returns at our home resort of Bay Lake Towers (which we have never actually stayed at since we are from CA, LOL). We are planning to do the Wizarding World of Harry Potter before the cruise and the Magic Kingdom after to see all of the holiday decorations and check out the new Fantasyland.

Very Cool!! I liked Bay Lake, but the rooms were smaller than some of the other DVC. We were on the 6th or 7th floor and had a great view of MK just about this same time 2012. My daughter loved being able to look at the window and see the castle lit up at night from the room :)

I just booked Fri- Mon Treehouse Villas pre cruise. I hope to get to a MVMCP that Sunday night.

Booked this one onboard! Hope we get to keep it!! Thinking of going to WDW sat/sun before the cruise.

How early does everyone book airfare? We just booked our cabins and checked airfare from Houston, TX…it's over $500 per person! Almost half of what the cruise will cost!

Also we booked a 5C which was the lowest category available. Is that typical to have all the other categories booked so far out? What are the chances that something in a cheaper category will come up? Should I check back every day to see if something has opened, or wait til closer to PIF date? We aren't particular on where we stay, so if we can save some money on the room type, then we can use towards airfare.

I booked this past Aug or july, but the cruises have been available to book (is bookable a word?) since Feb 2013. So I think a few people booked that early. There are three different ships going out for Thanksgiving and because it is a holiday, I would expect it to be booked up pretty quickly. There could be a GT rate at the last minute.

I am driving down to WDW Friday before, but being in ATL, I would have much better airfare than Tx. I would suggest waiting for southwest flights to come out before booking anything. I am having the same frustration with airfare to and from San Juan Oct 4th. Some people have gotten great deals, but from ATL it is more expensive than DC or San Fran! So I am hoping when Southwest comes out with the rest of their year, the prices will lower.

That was way too much info :) Sorry.. I'm all kinds of chatty today:laughing:

Thanks sweetlovin. Will def look for southwest or maybe use miles. I guess worst case we pay a lot or drive 16 hours from Texas.

We are driving from Dallas area because airfare is so much. There will be 5 of us since DNephew is tagging along on trip. Even with stopping in Pensacola and staying the night before in Port C it is cheaper. DH likes to drive and kids are ok with drive.

I am interested in the 'fish thing' outside my door. My parents are giving this as a gift to my sister and me and we are bringing our little girls-ages 8, 5, & 2 and looking forward to being on the boat on Thanksgiving!

Welcome to the group :)

8 5 and 2 are fun ages and so sweet of your parents. SO excited to be spending Thanksgiving on the ship.

We are contemplating this but it's about 15 hours and we want to do WDW before the cruise. So if we fly, we get that much more time in the parks. But you're right, it's very expensive to fly!

We are (gasp) cheating on the mouse and going to Universal pre-cruise. We have huge Harry Potter fans who can't wait to see Diagon Alley.
