November 2019 Will Have Terrible Crowds, Right?

Last time we were in Disney Studios, which was December 2017, the cast members kept telling us September/October 2019 is the projected opening date for the new Star Wars land. They also said that management is saying it will bring heavy crowds for about 2 years.

Any of this true?

My parents want us to go as a large family again (21 people) in November 2019, which will be their 50th anniversary.

The thought scares me. haha

While I am sure every where will see an uptick in attendance, a large focus of the attendance increase will be DHS. You could probably minimize the damage by skipping that park if the crowds look too brutal. I am actually trying to squeeze another trip in next year before SWGE. Probably won't try to get back to DHS for at least 1 year after opening (depending on crowds).

We won't be going to WDW in 2019, unless we do one Halloween party in September. Staying away for a bit.

I'm not sure that avoiding Disney Studios would do the trick if somebody is wanting to avoid heavier crowrds. People are not going to go to Disney for SW and not visit other parks, right? I mean, Pandora brought crowds in for all parks.

Yep this is probably going to be the case. Why would anyone just do HS?

All of the above is true. Now, the opening date is "projected" for late fall of 2019 I believe, so probably more October/November. If all goes well.

As for the crowds, like someone else said - crowds unlike anything Disney has probably seen before. Star Wars has a cult following, that alone will bring in hoards of people. Then you have all the regular Disney folks (many on here), who have post-poned their trips for a couple years, waiting for the new attractions to open, who will suddenly start flocking back. Think of how busy Pandora was, and then multiply that, a few/several/many many times. Also consider how much smaller HS is than AK size-wise, so how much more condensed all those extra people will be, and you can start to picture the crowds. The overflow will definitely impact the other parks. I'm sure it won't be 10s across the board or anything like that, but I also am sure there will be a noticeable increase across the board, that yes, is going to be long lasting.

I'd say yes. Nov 19 crowds will be crazy if SWGE opens on schedule. We'd planned a trip for that time period, but not anymore. I don't think we'll be at WDW in 2019 at all and will likely postpone a SWGE trip until late 2020, at the soonest.

Yeah, Star Wars Land, in addition to all the other new goodies opening, will mean insane crowds. O.P., if SW is not a big priority for your family, yu might want to convince them to visit WDW sometime before the grand opening.

Hmm, I’d totally spaced on this! Maybe I can convince DH that 3 trips (Nov ‘18, Feb ‘19 and Oct ‘19) are feasible and then skip a couple years haha
