November 2014 Car Rentals

Does anyone know if you have to show proof when using the Costco contract ID code with Alamo? I used that, along with the $30 coupon code and got an 8 day full size rental for $156 (11/14-11/22). Very happy with that rate, but i want to avoid any surprises at the counter!

Thanks for the help

Did you try the insider code? Sometimes the rates are similar, or if you're a passholder that rate is often similar or better than costco.

Great information here, thanks! But does anyone know if I return the rental to WDW car care center after hours, are there taxis there so I can get back?

Well, I can't find it so maybe it was a $30 off plus tax. My original rental was $394.94. When I added the coupon it dropped to $359.79. Sorry about the mis-information.

No problem. I was just excited about the prospect of dropping another ten bucks off of my rental! Oh well!

I used the Costco website to book my car last year. It was through Enterprise and they did ask for my Costco Card for proof when I picked up my car.

Hope that helps.

No, Alamo does not require proof of your Costco card. We've used Alamo for about 15 years and they have never asked.

Does anyone have an Alamo coupon code for 8 days that is higher than $30? If so, please share. I would love a $35 or $40 coupon. Also, any SUV coupons out there for Alamo?

You have been fortunate then.
We have been asked to show our ID many times to prove we have a right to use the Costco code.

Many times, we have been asked to show our Costco card to prove our membership, and by various rental companies.

A membership is only $50, and you can recoup that cost in no time with the many different benefits that come along with membership.

I would not suggest taking the risk of getting there, only to have them ask for ID.
You will end up paying whatever the price is at that time to rent at the counter.
Not worth it in my opinion!

You can come very close to Costco prices with other discounts, like the Alamo insider code.
I actually just got a better price with the AP code than I did with my Costco code.

Thanks for the input everyone. I went with the $30 of coupon and the Alamo insiders rate and the rental came to $164. For an extra $8 I'll take the safe route ;-). I'd love to have a costco membership but the closest store is 45 miles away from us. We've been waiting for one for years here in Lansing. Fingers crossed :-)

Well, seeing as the KLM code is working again, I got a ressie for National using the Emerald aisle for $223.66 for 11/9 to 11/16. I noticed prices have gone up a bit again, so I'm hoping to get it lower, but it's a start! Has anybody seen coupons for National that go beyond the end of September yet?

For Dollar, they are showing a midsize suv (escape or similar) to be less expensive than a full size car (altima or similar). However it shows 5people/2 bags for the suv, and 5 people/4bags for the car. Is the altima trunk larger than the suv?

Also, is dollar at Wyndham an ok way to go? Will they pick DH up at YC and bring him over to rent the car for us?

Lastly, anyone use the vroom vroom code at alamo? Code is 299851. I get good pricing with it and I could pick up right at Dolphin. (Dollar still beats it though.) I don't really know what the code is though. :confused3 Read on flyer forum somewhere that you just go straight to the car so doesn't matter. Just wondering since I pick up at a resort that may be different.

It is for international license holders only. They do check as the code includes CDW/LDW. I would not recommend its use if you live in the US. If you manage to get past the booth agent, but proceed to have a accident at any time during your rental; Alamo will hold you liable for the car and come after you for damages.

So in summary it is like the KLM code for National, except....it's not for use by anyone in the United States and/or Canada. There have been reports of Canadians also being refused rental with this code even though Canada is international. So I would assume Alamo groups the USA/Canada in the same bracket for restrictions.

I have noticed that the vroom vroom code starts better than other codes, but, the closer you get to your arrival date, other discount codes end up being close or better than the vroom vroom code.

Thanks! I googled but couldn't come up with much info on it.

Has anyone had experience with Payless Car Rental they had the lowest rate 279.20 thru BJS for a mini van for 1 week but I have never used them. Also it that a good rate or should I keep checking. Thx in Advance. :)

I rent a car about once a year (if that) so I don't have a good feel for rates. Hotwire is having a one day sale today--I can get a midsize car for one week (11/15-11/22) for $150.75. Searching car companies, I haven't found anything close to that. I'm searching for opinions from those more experienced than I am--should I book it??
