I can see there are some VERY experienced Disney vets here! Is anyone else planning their first trip?

Honestly, it's my second -- I went to WDW for my senior trip in H.S. (11 years ago) but I didn't have to plan a thing for that, so I don't count it!

This is not only our first trip to WDW as a family, but our first real family vacation -- and it's a surprise for our girls!:cloud9:

I have never wished away a summer in my life, but I am so ready to get to Disney, I can't stand it!

This is our first trip to Disney. All 3 of us, me, my mom and my DD3.5. Someone asked my DD if her daddy was coming along and she said, "No, he doesn't travel well." :rotfl:

I am wishing this summer away so fast, it isn't even funny!

Your girls are going to be soooo excited!! :cheer2: I could never keep it a surprise, I'm not that disciplined.

Have questions? Someone here will have answers. :thumbsup2 Welcome to our crazy world of Disney planning. :goodvibes

Ok Smileybug...something is wrong with my ticker!!!!!!! it says 5months and 4 days! yours says 5months and 1 day.... BOTH SHOULD SAY 5months and 2 days!

Now remember mine is one day off. I shifted my dates a while back. We were originaly going Saturday to Saturday. Now its Sunday to Sunday. But I have been watching yours so I know what to do when. :lmao:

we were out of town for a few days and I am about 7 pages behind! So,I just skimmed through and these are a few things I remember to comment on: Weather- we have been the same week the last 2 years in a row and a couple of times the first week of Dec.,,for our Nov trips, we have worn shorts and T shirts almost every day,..a couple of times, we put on jeans, or capris and a light jacket and that was all we needed--our Dec trips have had more varying weather by far than the Nov ones,...in fact the Nov trips have gotten up into the 80's and we were preeeetty hot for a few days each time. We are from Tx and the weather here is usually about the same, maybe a weeeeenncie bit cooler on our trips. I did a lot of sundresses for me last time and it was fine-maybe a cardigan for those rest. that are freezing.
BoG- I have Tonys for 2 diff days and will drop one for BoG if it opens...I am afraid it might not be available for us--we will be gone before Tday. When they say open for Holidays 2012, I'm not sure they mean all the time that the Christmas party is going on. If so, I am in the clear, but if Thanksgiving is the signal I am out of luck~
Shoes>>>I like Nike, or asics,...but I usually wear my Croc flip flops. I think the ones I have are the Caymen style--in fact they are so old I need to order a new pair. They are wonderful!!!If I wear my tennis shoes all day my feet feel too swollen-that's weird to me. They should feel better, & it's like my shins are tender or something...any of y'all ever have that feeling?
tickers-my tickers are usually one day short too!! Not sure why?

This is about what I deal with. Except the pain starts with the tops of my feet. By the end of the day I am miserable. But right now I am on the hunt for a really cute sandle/flip flop that I can wear on the warm days and be good in all day. :thumbsup2

This just hit me on the days. Yours should be at 5 months and 2 days. So if we go by yours are we going to miss the first day of our vacations? :lmao: If thats the case, lets go by mine. We will be a day early. :rotfl::rotfl2:

My touring plan put us going to Fantasyland right after the Castle Lighting Ceremony...then it hit me that for some shows that are at the Castle they don't allow you to walk through the Castle. So will I be able to watch the Castle Lighting from the hub and then go to Fantasyland or do I need to rethink my schedule?

Why not just walk around the castle? :confused3 I wouldn't change my plans based on that.

Are there touring plans available online? Or did you make your own up?

I guess I could go around the castle...lol...don't know why I didn't think of that.

I'm using touring plans . com.

How much of a touring plan do you guys do? Only plan what park on what day? Plan what "land" first, second, ect... Or do you hard-core plan this ride, then this show, then this performance, this ride, ect....

We just do what park on what day. Everything is up in the air. We enjoy stopping and watching the street performers. And just doing that throws off any other schedule.

DEFINATELY.....Tony's will get the boot. :lmao:

This is what I'm talking about. I have two places that I have planned in to be possibly replaced with BOG. But what if I can't get those times? That is where I'm at right now. If the ressie doesn't fit my schedule, what am I willing to do? I just don't know how much I am willing to rework everything. :confused3

I have never wished away a summer in my life, but I am so ready to get to Disney, I can't stand it!

How exciting for you! Kudos to you for keeping it a secret. I could never manage that!

Awe!! I can so remember our first family trip to WDW!Our little girl was 6 and as we were heading to the MK for very first time- on monorail, I took her in my lap so she could see Cinderella's Castle for the first time, and I can still remember the tears in my eyes at that moment. It was such a sweet moment and one that lives in my heart and mind forever!! She was so excited and as a mom it brought back such fond memories of my first disney trip. And to now share and pass that experience on to her is just something beyond words. She is now 23 and just graduated from college--which we will be celebrating on this trip and she has inherited my love and craziness for disney.....AAAHHH I love it!!! :thumbsup2

You seem to feel about Disney JUST the same as I do. Awesome story!

I've been at a conference since Monday without internet access!! There are like 20 some pages to catch up on!

I got a little WDW fix while at the conference. It was in Orlando so I got to stop at the Disney Store in the airport. Not as exciting as WDW, but still fun. :goodvibes I texted DH pictures of me with Snow White & Goofy from in front of the store.

We got to see the Shamu show at Sea World. It was great! They had 6 orcas in the show. Very cool.

I doubt I will have time to go back through all of the missed pages, but I hope there was a lot of FD & great ADRs for everyone! :thumbsup2

Welcome back! Glad you had fun. We'll take any Disney we can, right?!

Sadly, I'm another one wishing away the summer. Your DD sounds like a hoot! "He doesn't travel well". Bah hah hah!:rotfl2:

I just plan the parks on which day (or DTD etc.) and the ADRs. Then we do what we want within that. Otherwise it would be way too commando for me.

I do touring plans...I guess you would call them hard-core. But let me be clear, I do them because I enjoy doing them. If you have knowledge of what you want to do, what things have long lines early, and you go in the slower time of year...you don't really need a touring plan. I can honestly say we don't follow my touring plans to the letter. But I enjoy making them and it helps me feel like I have a plan and we don't have to spend the day saying 'what do you want to do next?'

THIS. We don't follow them to the letter either - the touring plan is more what you'd call "guidelines" than actual rules. :upsidedow

I think it is important for everyone to do what fits their family the best. :thumbsup2 I think we all "do Disney" a little differently. Besides the different opinions is why this thread is so much fun.

This is exactly what I was thinking! Although this is my first Disney trip, I have travelled quite a bit elsewhere, last year I took my then 2.5DD on a 5 city tour of Norway, just the two of us for 3 weeks. We need plans, it gets rid of that "What should we do now?" time sucker but if we see something else along the way I have no problem making adjustments as we go. Plus the planning is so much fun!!

I get all my ADR's and then plan my days around them

:)
