November 2011 Check In

Marie,

Well let me start by saying that you have raised the bar for our dinner tonight! What a great idea, and I have done nothing but try and think of what little something I can do that says 5 days :cool1::banana::love::woohoo: Can you tell I'm excited? I will let you know what I end up doing, but it probably won't live up to yours!

Today is laundry day and the beginning of packing. I am also checking all of our reservations, etc. and making sure everything is booked correctly. It was a fun weekend celebrating, and busy, and I am tired!! But, knowing that the chores and laundry are for Disneyland, some how makes it more tolerable, and dare I say, fun???

I also need to order the groceries for delivery, and I think we have decided to go see the Battle of Dance on Halloween night. It looks like a fun show, and it's right by Buca so that's a good thing as far as the taxi goes.

You were telling me all you went through with DD Mp3 player, and I am even more impressed! I have no clue what you are talking about with converters and files and half-files and...again, great job!

So, I don't want to disappoint you but, I have decided not to make swimming costumes :rotfl: I probably look like I'm wearing a costume all on my own! DD wants to be a Ninja this year, and we aren't even trick or treating, so I am not buying a costume for Pete's sake!

We are all taking our vitamin C and praying for health! I am so glad your DH is feeling better, and I will keep praying the rest of you stay healthy.

As for the airfare credit, before our last trip I joined Airfare Watchdog, and they send emails for the locations you are looking at going to. So the same thing happened before that trip, but it was with Alaska. About 2 months before our trip, our airfare went down $60 per person, so I called them and they gave me a $180 credit, which allowed us to help take our friends with us. So this time I decided to check every now and then, and that was my lucky day I guess! Now the same flight day/time is $30 more than we paid. I would think that all of the big airlines would honor their sale prices. And yes, DD already has spent that credit on a future trip! It certainly doesn't hurt to check every couple of days and then ask!

Well, I better get started on the laundry/packing :) It will be a quiet day of football, chores, and Disney dreaming! Have a great day yourself!

I will be at the Happiest Place on Earth! with one of my best friends and her family Nov. 19-23, staying at the Super 8! Hope to see you all there! I will have my LGMH on my Perry the Platypus bag so come and find me!!!!!

i have a question about the weather i was hoping someone could help me with.

i checked the averages for disneyland and im going the 11-13, and it states the average is 75/52. so the day time 75, is it a warm 75 like shorts? or a cool 75 like jeans?

i know its strange, but in Boston- 75 in August, and 75 in November are two very different types of weather.

...im thinking with the drop, id be best to go to the hotel around dinner and change into Jeans, but im so confused about what to pack for the day!

any insight or thoughts are appreciated
In general we usually find the weather in Anaheim to be just about perfect! Well.... except for that one year when we arrived in September right in the middle of a heat wave and a record setting 107! No wonder we went back to traveling mostly in November! Anyhoo.... I'll go ahead and throw in my 2 cents to the already excellent advice you have already received. The days are usually just about right for jeans although some people do wear shorts. You can pretty much count on needing a jacket after the sun goes down. I always try to make sure to pack at least one or two long sleeve shirts to layer just in case the evening gets extra chilly.

I think it's a cool jeans 75* not a hot 75*. I totally get what your saying- there is a difference.
I agree. Jeans for me too.

We will be at HoJo Nov 19-24. We usually go every two years during this week to celebrate my birthday (Oct. 21) and my daughters (Oct. 24) but now that she is in high school I didn't want her to miss any school so we have to go during school break. I know it will be crowded but we will get to the park early and make the most of it until the lines get too long. When I ask her what her favorite childhood memories are, without hesitation, she says "spending my birthday at Disneyland"!
Glad you still were able to come up with a plan to celebrate those birthdays. With a response like that it would have been sad indeed to not be able to take her again.

About the issue of temperatures being somewhat different at different times of year - like 75 degrees in August vs. 75 in November - it's that way to an extent here in SoCal too, although it's still warmer overall here.

In fact, I commented on that exact same phenomenon last November, while I was at DLR. I went to DLR last year on the day after the holiday season began, so it was 11/13. It was in the mid-to-upper 80's that day. I am not someone who likes heat. At all. Not even a little. I like nice, cool, crisp Fall or Winter days. I get cranky, miserable and quite ill if it is too hot for me - and too hot for me is pretty much anything over 70 degrees!:rotfl2:

I happened to notice that the mid-80's day of 11/13 last year was more bearable to me than I knew a mid-80's day in August would have been. It was most definitely warm, but it did not have that certain unrelenting harshness to it that Summer heat has - that's the best way to describe it, I think. Also, the peak of the heat didn't last as long as it would have in Summer.

I commented to whoever I was talking to at that moment (it may have been Marie, but I don't recall) that "80 degrees in November is definitely not the same as 80 degrees in Summer."

It was not cool, though - not in the daytime. It was still too warm to feel very holiday-esque. If the sun is out, it will be warm for a while in DLR. If it's a gloomy day, then 75 degrees might seem much cooler in November.

Then, when I went back to DLR in December, there was one day in the 90's and another day in the 80's - it was warm, no question, and people were wearing shorts, but I could tell by the way I, personally, react to heat that the heat did not have that same unrelenting harsh edge that it has in the peak of Summer.

It's an interesting phenomenon!
Interesting indeed. We have seen all sorts of weather too but usually it is all good and works out fine with just a little bit of adjustment in your clothing. I have heard for years to dress in layers and found it to be very good advice.

We are looking forward to our Nov 30 check in. Although our first day in the parks won't be until Dec 1.
We are doing the same but on different days. We arrive on October 1st but won't actually head to the park until the next day. I'd be willing to go if I could convince someone to go with me but I travel with a nutty bunch who like to rest up for the first day. :confused3

11 days to go for us! The kids have made signs for Jedi academy and decorated travel diaries for themselves, I'm making packing lists, so excited! I can't believe we are actually going, I am even looking forward to the 14 hours flying!
Sounds like everyone is having fun getting ready for the trip! 14 hours is quite a flight but I bet it will all be worth it! :thumbsup2

OK, so after reading through I am getting worried about the weather! I was thinking it would be fairly cool when we are going (11/05-11/10) and most of the adorable matching pre-bought Disney outfits I have for my 2 young DDs involves pants, lightweight long sleeve shirts, and sweatshirts for night/morning. Are they going to be sweating like pigs???!!!
I agree with OregonMickeyLover. It is different for everyone. Most years for us the weather has been perfect but there have been a few occasions when it was a little cooler or a little warmer. If the long sleeve shirts are lightweight I am fairly sure they will be fine. The sweatshirts will probably feel pretty good some nights. Look at it this way.... if the shirts are too hot you will have a good excuse to buy a few souvenir t-shirts! :thumbsup2

We visit from Oregon which, up here, we are used to clouds and rain with temps in the 60's-70's. Each time we have been to DL, we are amazed at how many people are wearing a long sleeve shirt, sweatshirt, pants, etc. when it is 80 degrees. My family, especially DH, wears shorts pretty much year round, which is also a bit strange. I guess it's just different for everyone, and it has to do with what climate they normal live in. As long as there is no rain, our family is happy :cool1:
Sounds like it would be warmer for you than at home. I can see where you might get tired of rain but I gotta say that one of the few times we were there when it did rain was one of our most memorable trips. We stayed through a short little rainstorm several years ago. By the time it cleared out tons of people had cleared out with it. The park was even prettier than usual with all the shiny sidewalks and the smell of rain in the air.

Hmmm, we go to DL the same time every year for Thanksgiving (with the exception of last year because DD was only 3 months old at the time). Its always been cool the week of Thanksgiving. In fact, the first year we went (I think it was 2007 or 2008) it was in the 60s during the day, low 40s at night.

Maybe there is a weather change from the beginning to the end of the month??
We have found that a few days can make a lot of difference. Still easy to enjoy the park as long as you come prepared even if the weather is a little cool. A nice chilly night gives you a good reason to grab a warm cup of hot chocolate! Mmmmm.

There is no telling what this year will be like!! I have lived in SoCal my entire life, so I have seen the changes in weather patterns and how weird certain months like October and November can be. And now December is getting a little crazy too.

I have been to DLR over a Thanksgiving weekend in the past when it was pouring down buckets of rain - and I don't mean just regular rain showers. I mean blinding rain that was hard to get through. But it's not like that in SoCal every Thanksgiving - not by a longshot.

I have been to DLR in December when it was only in the mid-40's in the daytime and about 30 degrees or so at night, and we were so cold (and bundled up in many layers of clothing, scarves, mittens, caps, everything) - frantically searching for fluffy Mickey ear muffs in the shops - that our teeth would not stop chattering.

I've also been to DLR in December when it was in the 50's at night but was surprisingly not that chilly (see, again, it's that "harsh edge" I spoke of in my previous post - it applies to lower temperatures as well as higher ones), and I was walking around in a t-shirt with no jacket the entire time...on a December evening. But one year prior to it, I was at DLR in December and it was in the 40's at night. I was freezing and could not get warm.

Early November still tends to be pretty warm, overall, in the daytime. But I agree that how warm or cold it feels to each person is largely based on what he/she is personally accustomed to and prefers.
Crazy weather? Sounds like Texas! Although our stupid summers do tend to be much hotter. You can give me your California weather anytime! I think in the 10 years we having been going to Disneyland we have only seen 1, maybe 2, downpours like you described. Thankfully the rains are usually sweet little showers that clear out almost as fast as they came. Perfect for clearing out the park but not ruining the day. We have only been once when we had to break out the big coats but never has it been as cold as when you were there in the 30 degree weather. I hope this is not another year for that!

Just a little over a week and I'll be able to pull the info for the last page of our travel book. The weather report. lol:cool1: It shows the high 70's and lows in the 50's during our stay. Coming from Phoenix, 50 is cold to us so jeans and jackets will be a must. Chances are we'll be in jeans all day too. I see layers in my future. :)

When we were there in the spring, it was about the same temps though and there were days when I had wished I'd brought a tank top. It gets toasty in the sun.
Layers ARE great! I'm with you since I'm from the south. 50 degrees is getting pretty chilly for me.
Thankfully Disneyland does have lots of shade when it gets hot. I can only imagine how hot it can be during the middle of summer.

We will be there Nov 28th. If I can get a second set of comps will also go 27th. Looks like a lot of people will be there on that Monday
Good luck getting to add the extra day!

25 Days for us.
ADRs = check
Fantastmic desert tickets = purchased
Excitement as we wait for the special package from Disney to arrive = mounting
Wishing I could make a chicken pot pie like Mariezp everyday for the next 3 1/2 weeks = definitely

:thumbsup2
Sounds like you have things pretty well in order! I can send you the recipe which was passed on to me and you can bake your own countdown! Sad to say most of my meals from hear on out won't be nearly as much fun. Not likely I can come up with something new every night.

:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl: I love this! :thumbsup2:thumbsup2:thumbsup2
Glad you liked it. Thanks for the thumbs up!

Sorry I put the heat on you! Guess I did it to myself too. My meals are going to seem pretty boring after that....well, at least until we hit Disneyland! So have you come up with anything???

Today is laundry day and the beginning of packing. I am also checking all of our reservations, etc. and making sure everything is booked correctly. It was a fun weekend celebrating, and busy, and I am tired!! But, knowing that the chores and laundry are for Disneyland, some how makes it more tolerable, and dare I say, fun???

I don't know if I would go as far as to say laundry could be FUN but I do know what you mean. It's always a relief when you call to reconfirm the reservations and they ARE still like you planned them. I called last week and everything checked out for us too.

I also need to order the groceries for delivery, and I think we have decided to go see the Battle of Dance on Halloween night. It looks like a fun show, and it's right by Buca so that's a good thing as far as the taxi goes.

I was wondering if you had placed your grocery order yet. Did you sign up with Von's? They send out codes for free delivery pretty often. I have been kinda waiting on that but also trying to decide whether to place one big order and have to move with it or just pay the delivery fees and place 2 smaller orders. DH said he wouldn't really want to have to wait for deliveries twice but I will probably be doing laundry so I figure they won't be doing much anyway so waiting for groceries will give THEM something to do.
Glad you came up with a plan. I had never heard of the Battle of Dance. Had to look that one up. Looks like that should be fun and just enough different entertainment for your DD too. You'll have to write us up a review when you get back.

You were telling me all you went through with DD Mp3 player, and I am even more impressed! I have no clue what you are talking about with converters and files and half-files and...again, great job!

Thanks! As I mentioned, I better not toot my own horn even a little until we find out if it actually works.

So, I don't want to disappoint you but, I have decided not to make swimming costumes :rotfl: I probably look like I'm wearing a costume all on my own! DD wants to be a Ninja this year, and we aren't even trick or treating, so I am not buying a costume for Pete's sake!

Darn! They sure would have been cute. Your Ninja sounds like our kind of girl!
My DD can be a Princess right along with the best of em but generally prefers something not so girlie. We were just talking the other day about some of her souvenir choices. Dolls are not at the top of her list. Instead we are the ones walking through the park with the little girl who's toting a big rubber dinosaur.

We are all taking our vitamin C and praying for health! I am so glad your DH is feeling better, and I will keep praying the rest of you stay healthy.

I took Airborne a few times but now I have gone and ran out. I thought about gargling some peroxide like every hour but Lordy that stuff tastes awful!!! Looks like I am going to have to count on prayers too. I'll be sure to do the same for you!

It certainly doesn't hurt to check every couple of days and then ask!

I'll have to check out Airfare Watchdog. Sounds like it has been a good deal for you. Better to have that $180 to put towards another trip!

Well, I better get started on the laundry/packing :) It will be a quiet day of football, chores, and Disney dreaming! Have a great day yourself!

Hope you made good progress on your packing and dreaming!

I will be at the Happiest Place on Earth! with one of my best friends and her family Nov. 19-23, staying at the Super 8! Hope to see you all there! I will have my LGMH on my Perry the Platypus bag so come and find me!!!!!

Darn, we will be there a little over a week earlier. I would have loved to try to spot your Perry the Platypus bag.... and your LGMH.

Oh no!!! I would have loved to meet up with you. I am actually very excited about this trip since this is the first time I will have my LGMH even though I have been on the DIS for a few years now. I did respond to your post on the other thread about the LGMH and just wanted to say thank you again for the picture of yours and the idea. I do love my Perry bag; I got it at Comic-Con and I am hoping to convince my friends to wear their Phineas and Ferb ones so we match!

Marie,

I told you I would tell you what I came up with for dinner, and I have to say that tonight DH cooked because I had a horrible headache. He and DD ate what he made and I had some cereal a couple hours later. Maybe one night this week, but like you said, it's not likely as there's too much to do!

This grocery order was the first one I have placed, so my delivery was free. I can see what your dilemma is though. So I'm assuming you've done this before (forgive me if you told me this already)? If DH doesn't want to wait for two deliveries, then he must be willing to move the groceries to the new hotel right? Do they charge by how much you buy? I think I would make one order and move it with us verses dealing with two deliveries, two fees, two potentials for problems, but that's just me and I don't know how it works yet.

It sounds like our DD have similar likes and dislikes! Two years ago when I was Christmas shopping, I had Littlest Pet Shop toys and then I had Hot Wheels, Spy Gear, and Dinosaurs. The checker said "It must be fun to have one of each!" I just laughed and said "I wouldn't know because this is all for my daughter!" :rotfl: Things haven't changed and I don't think they will. Her birthday list was Beyblades, Nerf swords, Xploderz, and Hot Wheels. The only thing remotely girly was her Selena Gomez CD. Let's just say that as much as I tried buying baby dolls and princesses, the Bippity Boppity Boutique is never going to happen. Her favorite Disney characters are Chip n Dale and Pluto. And I'm okay with that 100% as I'm sure you are!

Well, not much laundry, chores, or football watching was had. And as for the Disney dreaming...not really. I just wanted the headache gone and thankfully it's down to a dull roar. Anyways, it's 1:00am and I have to be up at 6:00am! Have a wonderful, healthy, Monday!:)

thanks for the thoughts on the weather :)

i think ill pack a pair of capris for the day...
..im not really a shorts type person, either capris/jeans or sundresses
who knows maybe ill toss a sundress in there-just in case :lmao:

this light packing for a couple of nights is going to end up pretty heavy i think!

Howdy all, I have one week left to go today before I leave for my trip! I was curious if anyone else was going to be around the same time and wanted to meet up. I originally had this planned as a solo trip but then other friends committed then fell through so I'm back to solo. Thought I would see if anyone would like to get together at least for a little bit while I'm there Oct 28-Nov 6. Thanks either way I'm sure I'll have fun but would be nice to share it with someone who is into all this stuff too :)

You are welcome! Hope your new LGMH helps you make contact with another fellow DISer.

Marie,

We'll let you off the hook this time. ;) I hope you got over your headache.

I could easily come up with enough for free delivery like you did. Doesn't really take all that much by the time you order water, some paper supplies and snacks.
You do make a valid point about the less chance of errors possibility with one order but after much contemplating I think we have made a decision. I finally brought it up to DH and it looks like we will just bite the bullet and pay for 2 deliveries. The main deciding factor is that Desert Inn's checkout time is 11:00. Check in time at Dolphin's Cove is not until 4:00  which means that besides having to move the groceries with us we will also have to stow our belongings and have it in someone's way for several hours. I think we have come to the conclusion that we will stow our stuff, go to the park for lunch, ride some rides and head out early for the evening, maybe around 6:00. Then we can go pick up our luggage, grab a cab and go check into our new lodging. After a brief rest I can go do laundry and the guys can wait for the groceries. Gosh I am glad every decision is not so complicated!

Love your story! We have lots of Littlest Pet Shop toys too and, of course, the dinosaurs.
DD has always loved playing with stuffed animals but her latest craze is Breyer horses. She also loves to draw. I think part of the reason she is not so girlie is because she has a big brother and spends so much time with him.
Not sure who her favorite character would be. I think it changes from day to day but I think the last one was Tigger. She does like Chip and Dale too. And, yes, whatever she likes is okay with me!

I get my fair share of headaches too and I know sometimes it is nearly impossible to get anything done. Thank heavens you have another day to finish your packing. I pray it is without headaches or any other problems.

Capris may just be the perfect answer! Personally, I've never found a way to pack light. Good luck to you doing better than me.

Bummer about your friend not being able to make it. Oh well. I am sure you will still be able to have a great time going solo. We will be there during your dates. Just be sure to keep an eye out for my LGMH! (lime green Mickey head)

Looking forward to ordering our WOC picnics tomorrow. Can't believe we are only 30 days out!!!

We loved WOC! Hope you enjoy it too!

well, this is my first trip and i only just found out about LGMH but am frantically making up one to take & put on our luggage/day bags etc.

am hoping that i get the opportunity to meet some fellow DISers while we're at DLR from Nov 6-8 - we'll be at the parks all day, for all 3 days, and we are hoping to hit them up, commando style.

having said that, have a chest cold, and had a fall down the stairs this morning (comedy of errors, was coughing and running down the stairs to rush out the door for work) and busted both my left knee and my left ankle this morning, so am on copious amounts of pain killers and anti-inflammatories.

we've got just on 12 days til we hit DLR and i don't want to do it from an ECV if not necessary :)

Hmmm I lost my LGMH that time I wore it. Bet I could con the other half into stopping my Home Depot for me. lol I'll just have to attach it differently.

Looks like everyone is busy on their trip or making preparations. We are heading out TODAY in about 3 hours!!!! See you when we get back!

Just saw this thread. We are leaving this Friday, NOvember 4th!! Driving down from Oregon and staying until Saturday the 12th. I am waaaaay excited! Trying to get my house clean, kids packed, me packed. Can't wait!

We're heading out oin two days!!! I feel like I'm packing for the artic, us Tucsonans are such wusses when it comes to cold - so a predicted high of 59 scares me!

We start our l o n g journey to DL tomorrow!! So very excited now, we are going to have dinner at the airport then we have a short flight to Auckland then the big 14 hour flight overnight to LA, we are even excited about the flights at this stage!! I hope the kids get some sleep on the plane because they are going to need all their energy when we get there!

We are so excited to go visit where it all started. Can anyone tell me when we should expect our package from DL to be shipped? We have a package booked with DL travel and Disney visa. I seem to remember it was around 3 weeks.
Thanks
Meredith

10..more..days.

Yes, that's right. Tomorrow we are officially in the single digits. YAY.

I've already pulled out the suitcase(s). I only have a couple of snacks and some soda to pick up. I've already got the "car bag" of snacks separated from the bag of coffee etc going to the room. I reminded him to schedule his store appropriately (he's a retail manager and I've had my PTO approved for months..lol) and I've reminded him that I'll be taking his car to work the day before since he'll likely be closing and I have a half day. This way I can pack the car so we can just grab the cooler and be off the next morning. Tickets are already in my park backpack as is my lanyard. I can pull our weather report on Saturday and then my book will go in the backpack too. Then I will start packing as I do laundry on Sunday. YAY

We leave on Thursday :cool1:

I finished our laundry today and will finish packing when I get home from work tonight.

I can't wait to see all my nieces' faces when they see Disneyland for the first time.

I get to join this group! My sister and I are going to be there Nov 29 - Dec 2, staying at GCH. We're doing the Holiday Tour on Nov 30! :santa::banana:
