hello

I'm new to this whole thing. I just finished reading all 23 pages of posts. I'm really not sure how this works.

This is going to be our first disney cruise. I haven't booked anything except the cruise. I still have to book our flights. From the information from this great website I have decide to fly in the day before so I have to find a hotel. I need to research some excursions. Any advice? My dd is 5 but shy. After reading all the posts I feel so behind. Any advice is welcomed.

Thanx maegan

:welcome:

This is just a neat little forum where we all share our plans and ideas...and get to know each other before the cruise. From what I can tell we have a great little group and it's my guess we're going to have a lot of fun! There's lots of great info here but it takes some reading. If you have questions just fire them out here. Someone will have an answer or a suggestion or will be able to tell you where to find what you need. We are ordering those green gummy bracelets (from ebay) to wear on the cruise so we will know each other!!?! It's a chatty bunch but we thought we'd like to have a way of identifying each other in person. If you read back a couple of posts, you'll find out how to order them if you choose to.

Other than that. Ask questions at will...

Nice to have another Canuck escaping the cold with us EH!

Welcome aboard:goodvibes

Glad you are joining us.

Please ask away, there are alot of returning cruisers with the group.

I can tell you about the excursions I have booked. Our DS will be just turning 4,
Key West-just walking around, nothing set in stone, may do trolley tour

Grand Cayman-Stingray,Snorkel and Beach excursion called Rays, Reef and Rum tour. If my DS is scared one of us will stay on the boat with him. We booked this direct with the tour operator

Cozumel-My DH is doing the Royal Dolphin Swim booked through the company not DCL. Me and DS will just hang and watch him and spend the day at Chaankannab park.

Castaway Cay-just going to relax, nothing planned as of yet.

Good luck with all of your planning. That is the fun part.

Hope everyone is doing well. Less than 7 months:yay:

Welcome Maegan. Careful, my son Dillon just LOVES older women, LOL.
Glad to see you joining the bunch.

We are taking the kids to do the Dolphin Encounter in Cozumel, going to Boatswain's Beach Adventure in Grand Cayman, going to the beach in Key West if the weather is good, and relaxing (and I guarantee you making some sand castles!) at Castaway Cay. We are still waiting for a reasonable airfare, hoping JetBlue releases their rates for November soon!

Good luck with everything and as was said earlier, any questions, just ask, everyone on here is really helpful!!

Hi everybody,
This will be the family's first cruise. We've been planning this for a while now BUT just last week we've decided to make this cruise even more magical;
:tink: we're getting married on the cruise! There will be me ( Robert 35), my fiancee (:bride: Nancy 30), our daugther (::MinnieMo Erika 11) our two sons (::MickeyMo Anakim 9 & pooh: Emrick 2) and my mother in law (;) Lise 51).

Oh yeah I almost forgot, we will also get the bracelets for the whole family.
We can't wait to meet you all.

I just have a couple of questions.

Where do I find the info to book excursion direct? Does anybody know what the weather is like in Nov, will we need sweater at night? Is it better to stay at hotel by the airport the night before the cruise leaves or by cruise terminal? Can we bring alocohol and water on the ship?
Sorry for so many questions.

Maegan

Hi Maegan,

If you have a Passporter Book DCL book, you can find the information about booking directly with excursion companies in each excursion description. If you don't have one, send me a PM and I'll be happy to help you out with contact info. Keeping in mind, one of the pros in booking directly with DCL is if by chance your excursion runs late, the boat will be held for your party because you booked through DCL, if you run late or have trouble getting back to the boat on time when booking directly w/excursion company the boat will not be held.

The weather is beautiful, when traveling last November we took very light sweaters and did not use them. Yes you can bring alcohol, water, snacks, drinks on the ship. It is recommened you carry breakables in your daybag. If you are bringing your fav. bottle of wine, a great way to pack it is in a plastic storage container, wrapped in bubble wrap real well to protect it. Then, you can use the bubble wrap and container to carry home any breakable souvenirs you find on your island shopping sprees!

As for hotels, if it were me, I would make that choice after booking airfare. It takes about an hour to get to Port C. from airport. So if you come in late, a place by airport would be great! If you come in earlier in the day, then traveling to Port C. is a bit easier and exciting, as some of the hotels have views of the Port. So when you wake up in the morning, you can see the Magic!

Congrats Mikana99 on your upcoming nuptials! How exciting! If I remember correctly there is a vow renewal happening in this group as well! Your children have such beautiful names!

Maegan,

A lot of us have booked excursions through different company's. If you read back you'll probably find the names. Then google them to find their websites. You can just book online or over the phone.

I would take a sweater or light jacket for the evenings. There's always some kind of wind at sea that can make it cool.

I have NO experience but if it was me, I'd stay at port the night before.

Has anyone ever been here before? We are trying to decide what to do on this stop. DH and I did swim with the stingrays on a previous cruise. I am quite sure neither of my kids want to do this. They enjoy just playing at the beach, they do not enjoy shopping. They might also enjoy a boat ride. We have done a pirate themed boat ride in FL before and they loved that. I wonder if there is anything like that on any of our stops. Anyway, after rambling I am wondering if anyone has a beach suggestion for GC. Thanks

Welcome Meagan and Mikana99 :welcome:

Its just great to see our little group growing, and now a wedding and a vow renewal
Mikana99 congratulations! What day do you get married?

Meagan, someone asked the question about sweaters on the cruise forum and were told that the a/c can get quite chilly in the dining rooms. Someone even ate dinner with a towel over their knees to keep warm!

Happy planning, and please feel free to post pics of yourselves or your kidiwinks

I don't have any beach suggestions but what about the Boatswain turtle farm and aviary?

Coastiewifern,
There is a pirate boat excursion in Grand Cayman.
try looking at this website: grandcaymancruiseexcursions dot com. I think that is where I saw it.
Good luck.

Thanks for the nice Welcome Sue, Dmja716, izma & coastiewifern !

We don't have a spefific day for our wedding yet, but it will be held while we are at sea. We spoke with Katy at DisneyWedding and she couldn't give us a day at this point. We're still at the planning stage...I guess. She sent us a form so we could pick the flowers, the cake, the songs... But no date.

We can't wait to see all of you.

Has anyone heard anything about these dolphin excursions. I like the idea of the eco tour/ seeing the dolphins in their natural habitat. I remember one year renting a boat in FL and having 2 dolphins follow us. My son was thrilled. I just don't know if it is warm enough in the Keys in Nov to actually snorkel comfortably? What do you all think?

DMJA I couldn't find anything at that website:confused3
oh well if anyone runs across something let me know. I meant to post these links for the dolphin excursion in Key West
Here are the links.

I was thinking maybe the kids would like horse back riding but I think the kids have to be older? My youngest is 5 or will be 6. Anyone know?

The website for the Grand Cayman pirate boat is: www.jollyrogercayman dot com

Mickey's Very Magical Christmas Party question....

Whoever among us is staying at WDW before the cruise should wear their bracelets to the MVMCP. Don't you think?

I also have a question...if you are not a huge fan of the shows, is paying for tickets to this worth the $? I am not a big fan of stage shows, but I would love to see the snow on mainstreet. Any advice?...then I'll stop bothering you all with the MVMCP questions!!!
