November 12, 2011 - Magical Double Dip!

MomE is thrilled to be joining this cruise!

Cozumel Chankanaab National Park is very nice, and a very easy excursion to do on your own, making it much cheaper than booking the excursion thru DCL.

Do you book it on line in advance or just taxi over and pay at the entrance?

Suggestions for Grand Cayman? I'm looking at going to the botanical garden, but could be pursuaded to try something else.

I haven’t been around in a while because we’ve been dealing with some things here. Sad to say that you’ll be double dipping without us. Everything is going to be fine on our end, but the cruise isn’t possible at this time. Have a wonderful time. Maybe we’ll meet on another high seas adventure.

Linda and Mark

Sorry to lose you from our cruise, thanks for letting us know though!:goodvibes Hope you guys get to sail soon!!!:cool1:

got mine and my daughter pirate costume for pirate night!!! now just got to find the hubby costume!!! we can't wait for this cruise

Awesome!!!:woohoo: We just got our shirts all decided on and we got a few of them delivered this past week! It makes it seem so much closer!:cool1:

Tomorrow will mark 30 days for us until we leave!!!:dance3::yay::woohoo::banana::cool1:

So sorry you've had to leave us - hope things get better for you soon!

Still no cruise docs, and they did not go to our TA either:confused3
Anyone else not get their's yet?

My TA just emailed me and said she has them!!! She's mailing them out to me today!!!

Gang, do NOT worry about it if you don't get cruise docs!

All you really need out of the packet is the luggage tags and even those can be recreated for you at port, unless DCL is collecting and transporting your luggage from the airport. The other "documents" are a recap of your Palo ressies/ excursions - which you can get on line, and the copy of the cruise contract that you need to sign, which you can also get on line and print when you fill out your on line docs.

GOOD Morning, Happy Cruisers!

Did y'all go to bed early last night? Or do you only post at work?

31 days! Can't WAIT!

Still no cruise docs, and they did not go to our TA either:confused3
Anyone else not get their's yet?

Got mine over the weekend in Boston. Just the booklet with luggage tags. One thing I noticed though is that this year you pick a check-in time!!!! so register on line ASAP!!!!!!!! :surfweb:

Got your room number updated, thanks!:goodvibes We are doing the dolphin swim in GC, I booked it with DCL though since it is a tender port. I did a bit of research before to see if it would be a better option for us to book it directly but honestly it was such a hassle with having to go to a hotel to be picked up and all this other nonsense. Something about them working with the cruise lines and not wanting to interfere with the cruise-line making money. It definitely can be done, don't get me wrong, I just wasn't interested in the amount of leg work involved.:confused3

We have used Island Marketing several times and always been very happy with them. Last year in GC we used them to book our stingray excursion, which was AWESOME!!!! You made a great choice!:thumbsup2

If no one else has any objections I think we can make this one exception, especially since it is their first cruise!:goodvibes

Guys PLEASE double check this FE list, make sure if you were/are supposed to be on it that you are in fact listed and if you're not supposed to be on it let me know that too! Thanks! :goodvibes:

Thank you for doing this! Our room number is 1046 one boy Samuel, one girl Bella, mom-Richelle, Dad- Jim

Ok, so my kids do not want to do anything pirate related - should I get them hats or something piratey anyway? They have not seen Pirates of the Caribbean due to NO interest. Does everyone dress up? Also, I think dh and I are doing palo that night - can we skip the whole pirate thing?

Also, ds is asking me incessantly, so what do we do AS SOON AS we get on the ship. I'm telling him we will check out the ship, maybe go to the pool, eat lunch etc. Is that reasonable?? Can someone please tell him so he will stop asking ME:) Methinks he senses my uncertainty as to what we will be doing period!

I'm feeling so inadequate not knowing what to expect! Don't have my documents either - TA is out of town for major surgery so don't know if she has them or not.

I'm starting to stress that I don't have enough clothes, etc. Will 2 swimsuits per kid and adult suffice or should I get more? Anyone else want to post their packing lists to give me ideas???

Kids club questions too - ds is 11, dd is 9. I take it 11yo can sign himself in and out but 9yo can't??? Do I want to allow this or have an option not to? 11yo is very responsible but I don't like the idea of him roaming the ship. Do they still do the wave phones? Can I give it to the 11yo to keep track of him? Also, is the tween club attached to the kids club? I'm telling ds he has to check on dd for me, is that possible? I'm hoping the kids will be entertained a lot and I can relax! Please tell me this is realistic!!

Both of my kids are asking me for blow by blow details of what happens each day. I start each day with, "well, first we sleep in..." Again, please tell me this is realistic!!

thanks!!!!!

As far as a blow by blow, this is the way it works for us. Every evening (and in your stateroom on arrival) you get a "Personal Navigator". It has all of the activities listed (I will post a URL to a copy after I get one scanned.) and we bring a highlighter to mark the ones we are interested in; each of us, DS13, DD10, and DW and I. That plans our get up time and where we will be each day and the time of day we meet back up.

There really is not a way for one child to check up on another if they are not in the same age group. On our last cruise (3rd for DS), he was 11 and checked himself in and out fine, but then he was very familiar with the ship. He could have checked on his sister, but the kids may be in different places on the ship at any time too. They may have an activity on the upper deck, for instance, so unless it was a checkout time, they may not find them in the club. They certainly will be entertained and you will be able to relax. Our only issue we had on the first cruise was that we sometimes felt like we did not see the kids enough and have made sure to limit their time and do family things (like games and shuffle board) instead of always having them in the clubs. DS loves the video games and does nto get them at home, so could stay there for hours (and has).

My kids don't get into the pirate theme either and neither do we. We just wear what we wear any other day. We still enjoy the show and the dessert buffet though.

So, what do we do as soon as we get on the ship? We get something to eat at Top Siders and then, the first time on the ship we explored. That can take a while. You have the lifeboat drill at 4PM. Then you will have the party as we get on our way. It is on the top decks. We like to bring large bubble wands, but there is music and a theme going on. Then you get into the evening schedule of dinner and show or show and dinner, depending on your early vs. late seating. Go to the shows. They are all very good. Also, when you are first there is a good time to get reservations for the galley tour, if you want it and a reservation for the Mad Hatter's Tea party (may be good for DD9). These are both free and limited to a certain number for reservations. Doing that right after you board is a good time to make sure you get in. The galley tour is very interesting.

I wanted to mail my FE stuff. Anyone know the deadline?

It needs to be there by the 11th (the 10th would be better, but not earlier than that) so the deadline to shiip depends on your method of shipment.

Ok, so my kids do not want to do anything pirate related - should I get them hats or something piratey anyway? They have not seen Pirates of the Caribbean due to NO interest. Does everyone dress up? Also, I think dh and I are doing palo that night - can we skip the whole pirate thing?
You CAN skip the whole pirate thing. We do, although we do go upstairs to watch the fireworks - IF we're awake.

Is he more interested in eating or swimming? THe kids could wear their bathing suits under their clothing. Go directly to the pool. Parents take turns acquiring food of choice - lots of options within steps of the kids pool and you can bring trays of food from Topsiders outside.

RELAX! Less is better. 2 swim suits plus a cover up is sufficient. If you run out of clothes you can always do laundry. I'll be happy to send you my packing list but I have no kids.

Kids club questions too - ds is 11, dd is 9. I take it 11yo can sign himself in and out but 9yo can't??? Do I want to allow this or have an option not to? 11yo is very responsible but I don't like the idea of him roaming the ship. Do they still do the wave phones? Someone JUST posted the navigators for each day on the cruise line forem.http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=2814906 Spend some time with your kids reading them. It will answer ALL their questions and give you some idea of how much you're going to see of them. (Sleep in? Not realistic in MY cabin!)

Gift Exchange Info

Meet & Greet in the Promenade Lounge Deck 3 at 3:00pm on Embarkation Day!!!!
We will meet in the Promenade Lounge at 3:00pm before the muster drill and sail-away to get to know one another briefly, put names to faces, and for those of you who would like to participate, we will also have a gift exchange! If you are participating in the gift exchange please be in the Promenade Lounge no later than 3:15. We will begin drawing names at that time!!!

Here's how it works:
Each family will bring a small gift to represent the area they are from, aka their hometown/state For example you could bring something from a local store like maybe a trinket from an artist in your hometown or if you are into sports bring something to represent your favorite home team. Last cruise on DCL, the gift I received was from a very sweet lady from Texas, she brought some local spices & coffee, along with a little Texas BBQ cookbook. It was really cool! It's just a simple gift nothing extravagant, that is unless you wanna give me a free cruise

No seriously just something light and fun!!

At the meet & greet, I will have name-tags to hand out where we will put our DIS name along with our real name, so that we can identify one another easily Then for each person or family who has brought a gift, when you come in find me, I will be handing out some lei's & up at the bar looking like I am in charge : Also I'll be wearing a name-tag At that point I'll write down your name & put it into a bowl/hat for the drawing part. I will also jot your name down on a list of who is actually participating in the exchange. That way everyone who brings a gift will receive one in return You hang onto your gift and have a seat, get to know some other people, have a drink, just relax : )

Around 3:30pm, which should give everyone enough time to mosey on down, we will begin the exchange I will call a name from the list and that person will come up pull a name from the drawing pool and exchange gifts with the person whose name they have drawn.

Very simple lots of fun and it ensures that each person who brings shall receive And no one is pressured into bringing something, it's completely up to each family, but please do come and hang out with us either way!!!

Can't wait! It's gonna be sooooo much fun!!
