November 12, 2005....7 Night Eastern...Who Else?

"Rich", is all relative isn't it? :goodvibes

I am "rich" with loving vacations away from our daily stressors.
DH goes skiing and hiking and hang gliding as his de-stressor.
He went skiing yesterday and today.

I am going to be working my rear off for the next four months in hopes we can afford to go to an all-inclusive with three other families from our homwtown (in March).

When the kids are in ski lessons every Saturday starting in January, I will trying to pick up extra shifts to help pay for my vacation madness.
Last winter was very busy and that is the only reason we could chum up the DCL $$$.

"She works hard for the money".....that really was a gooney song, wasn't it?

Our head server and stateroom attendant were leaving the same day. I definitely noticed the "I don't care I'm leaving in a few days attitude". I even mentioned it in my big mouth kidding kind of way to the head server and he agreed! :confused3 It made tipping at the end easy - no one got more than the reccomended amount and that is unusual for us.

Our server still had 4 months to his break. Maybe that explains why our service was outstanding!

I guess the barkley curse is broken and the duck does cruise now! :sunny:

yes, the "barkley curse" re. castaway cay is broken (though i don't know if he will cruise again, but we did get loads of photos of him the last night around the ship as everyone else was madly packing-we had done so the night before), but our vacations never seem to go without some oddity occuring (sometime i'll explain how holland american cruiselines partialy funded this one due to my interaction with a luggage cart the last night of our alaskan cruise  )...on this trip the oddity was our flight (or perhaps i should say "flights") to orlando. i had originaly booked from sacramento to lax, and lax straight through to orlando (about as close as i can get to a direct flight at a good price). well, we arrived for our sacramento flight and learned that southwest had added a short stopover in houston (just a few minutes to drop off/pick up a few passengers). o.k. no major issue....then as we begin to land we notice fire engines, ambulances and emergency equipment on the runway (i'm thinking and praying "please don't let them be waiting for us"). apparantly a small commuter plane had crashed a little prior to our arrival and what we were seeing was the clean up, we became the clean up airplane for the passengers. a bunch of people were loaded on and we began to head for NOT ORLANDO but NEW ORLEANS! yup, we got to land at the recently reopened (still caked in muds, filled with tents and equipment) new orleans airport. it was a fascinating experience-as we made our approach we could see the levees that had been repaired, the still mud filled streets, and scads of houses covered with blue tarps (our new passengers explained that this indicated a fema inspection of the house had taken place). since our flight came from texas alot of the passengers were folks coming back home for the first time since being relocated-it was an experience we will never forget.

i am glad to hear that everyone is home safe and sound. time to get back into the old routines (albiet with the holiday rush added)-everyone take it slow and easy.

Welcome back all and I trust evertyone had a great Thanksgiving. We had a good day with Mother - great Turkey and allthe trimmings. We spent the last several days still trying to clean up hurricane hits (propping trees etc) and decorating the outside for Christmas. Now, I think the roofers will call and we have to take it all down. (small price for a new roof, if that happens).

I've been catching up on the trip reports, both on the ship and otherwise. So sorry that some of you had less that the most magical experience. Other than the ship rocking, we both had a wonderful time. We also would like to try Alaska - which is why we did not rebook on board. If we use points, it will be HAL - unless Disney goes in 2007. But they may go in the "summer" and that is hurricane season for us. We will see.

We did not stand in line - hardly at all. We ate in the dining rooms or Palo's, never orderd room servic, and had lunch at Topsiders. We would go about 5 minutes late - no lines...just right into the assigned table. We had a mixed raction for the food. It was "very good" but did not score an excellent - other than Palo's brunch. My only disappointing meal was High Tea. Our servers were great - last time on board or not. The head waiter was "heads" above the last trip, for example.

The bartender that gave the Beer Tasting seminars was leaving. I think this enhaced the experience - he was a hoot. I do not know when our steward's trip was up, but he also rated an excellent.

I am glad that Barkley has broken the curse of CC. That was truely awesome and we cannot wait for our double dip in May. They offered to re-book our 2006 trip on board, but the savings were slight, due to the early booking discount we received. I did not want to risk losing the cabin for the $200 we would save. The price we were quoted on 2007 was acceptable, not as high as I had anticipated. But again, did not book, 'cuase of Alsaka.

congrats to Barkley's on Family of the Week and for Disnurse for cutest kids on board. I had never heard of these "awards". And how were you selected for the focus group?

DisNurse - Wilderness Lodge is a pperfect place to stay - that is where we spent our 25th wedding anniversary, our room overlooked the lagoon and they spoiled us. WL also has a DVC with it, with the apartment type units. I am sure it is very pricey.

Now I need to put all the magical memories inside the album. I'll try to post some pics as well.....I don't seem to have many of Sam and I - Hedgie, yes, and the port sof call - yes....Oh well, next trip.

Now it is back to work to help pay for the trip. :wave2: Later....

So what is everyone going to do with the geen neon bands. I had thought I would use mine in the scap-book, but then this morning, I am thinking of hanging it on the Christmas Tree and write "Disney Magic" on ribbon - and tie a bow around them both?????

Other ideas?????

Hey, Everyone!!

I just logged on to see if Dis Nurse made it home safely and to find out about her post cruise trip!! YEA!!! I'm glad you guys had a great time. I was soooo excited for you as I read their reactions to the Nick hotel suprise. Love the Nick/Sick review!! I have yet to speak to anyone who has stayed at the hotel, but it sounds like it will not be on our to-do list. Thanks for being our guinie pig!! :flower:

Jaypd, I found 7 of the lbs you lost on the cruise - Thanks, Dude!! You can have them back NOW!!!! I mean RIGHT NOW!!! :Pinkbounc

4Mickey,,,,don't place blame for joining the DVC on your lovely bride!! If you remember correctly, she was hanging out with me while YOU attended the meeting. And, I distinctly remember her saying it was going to be YOUR call on that one!! :teeth: From talking with several members, I bet that will be one of the best decisions YOU have made since you guys hit Disney so often!

C&D&F, I like your idea of hanging the bands on the tree!! I'm doing an all lavender tree this year - ornaments, ribbons, etc. all have a lavender cast to them (with white ligts) ,,,so the green bands will stick out like a sore thumb - reminding us of the awesome trip we had!!!

4Campers - thanks for the chuckle - sounds llike a cruise I could loose weight on vs. gaining - again, Jaypd,,please take your lbs. back! I don't think I would have much of an appetite - can you imagine a dining room full of naked bodies :earseek: :rotfl: :earseek:

Just returned from Disneyland! What a wonderful 2 days! We had a very nice room, with a view of the water slide! DD was SO happy to see that! The fireworks show last night was the most wonderful moment! Tinker Bell came flying through the air!!! Music, memories..........it was so nice to remember, and now begin new ones for my family!!! We can't wait to go again!!

I'm glad that everyone is home safe, and, yes returning to work even. It was a wonderful time for me. I enjoyed being able to see St John again. It's changed a great deal, but the beaches are still just as beautiful!! We had the best meal ever at The Lime Inn. If any of you go again, you have to eat there!!! The key lime pie is just the best ever!!

Ok, now I need to get back to the real world! I've been living with Peter and I suppose I'd better come down!

Just returned from Candlelight Processional at WDW - Epcot - It was a beautiful way to start the Christmas season. Take care all.....
