November 1, 2008 "Election Day Castaways!"

Where is everyone? Perhaps you are working hard so you can take time off? DD is asleepin my arms, and she needs the nap (she will wake up if I put her down) so I'm just hanging out by the computer.

What is everyone doing in Grand Cayman? We have the Island Tour booked, but I'm wondering about doing something on our own. We are a bit limited in what to do because DD will be with us.

We did the island tour on our first visit to Grand Cayman and enjoyed it. Especially if it is your first visit - you get all the tourist sites covered with that excursion.

Because DD14 really wants to enjoy the turtle farm (and the island tour only spends 15-20 minutes there) we are going to book the Boatswain (sp?) excursion so we will be there for the day. Some mixed reviews for Boatswain but we will make the best of our excursion and will enjoy our day of snorkling, relaxation, nature trail and TURTLES!

I have to decide about Cozumel. DH would love the high adventure stuff, zip lines, muddy dune buggy tours, bike tours but that is too much activity for poor old me and DD is not that brave. I'd like to do a little shopping.

Key West is just a venture out and see things port. We are going to probably take the trolley tour on our own - see Southern most point, Hemmingway house and cats, etc. Maybe the pirate museum and I am looking forward to the sunset celebration in Mallory Square. Apparently I must seek out a Key Lime Pie on a stick or my vacation won't be complete.

Last time I just waited till onboard to book our excursions and everything went well. As we aren't planning on the dolphin excursion in Cozumel, which I understand fills up quickly, I hope that we won't have any problems getting what we want. Worst case scenario if the Disney tour is full for Boatswain, we would just take a cab and go on our own and pay at the gate. Soooo, I've got a back up plan.

the Nautilus Tour in the morning. We want to do the Island tour also, but the online system won't let me book it because it's 45 minutes after our other excursion ends. Our TA said that when we're at the ship, they would know' if we have time to make the tour. It used to be at 1:30 but they moved up the time.

We're doing the beach break in Cozumel and then just wandering Key West on our own.

When DD was 5 we went to a beach, and had a relaxing day. The following year with DMIL, & DD6 we did the island tour. It was nice. We saw the old turtle farm (before the hurricane) and DD held a turtle. We toured the island, and saw the tourist trap known as Hell. (Did that, don't need to go back). This time we thought about doing the "Pirate Cruise", but might just do some shopping, and enjoy the ship.

Hi All, I am panicking now because we are so close

We are not a dress up family for costumes and such, so we won't be dressed up for pirates night in that way. My Dsis said it used to be Carribean night and therefore you can wear something Carribean like beachy shirts. What do most people wear?? Thanks!

We are doing Boatswain also. DS14 is a Turtle eficianado and that is his day.
Cozumel we are doing Xcaret...never been, but DS7 wants a beach day and this place seemed to have everything with aquarium, mini zoo etc.
Key West...OH THE KEY LIME IS A MUST.... Pirate Museum is fun.

if you can plug a portable DVD player in to the tv in the cabins?

We wanted to bring our Xbox360 for room and they stated that NOTHING can be plugged into any of the TV's in room for it will be on different voltage. I wouldn't suggest it.

Some people dress up for Pirate Night, but the majority don't. We wear our tropical shirts/skirts. They have pirate bandanas for everyone. Don't worry about dressing up unless you want to.

A lot of people wear either something tropical or if they have pirate t-shirts or shirts of some sort they wear them then.
Really whatever you feel comfortable in is fine. Some people go all out, (DH!) and some people wear the bandana they give you at dinner. Whatever works.
I think my favorite pirate night attire I have seen was a woman in a wheelchair dressed as a pirate, and her husband who pushed her dressed as a parrot. It was awesome.

BIG LOL on that one- you guys are crackin' me up today!!:lmao: :lmao:

I BEGGED my family to dress up as pirates, and I was turned down FLAT- although, DS9 would have done it if I really wanted him to. :lovestruc So the boys will be wearing Pirate tshirts from other vacations, and I'm still not clear on what I'm doing- guess I'd better make up my mind, huh?

We are not booking any excursions...last Disney Cruise we just walked around looking at things and doing some shopping, now with DD,who MUST have a nap, we don't think we will be able to do much. But that is okay, it is a vacation after all and I plan to relax!! :thumbsup2

Between you and I we need to ditch our DH's one night and go out and have some fun, they both sound like bore's lately....:rotfl: :rotfl:
DH tonite was having a panic attack.... Am I going to get all this work done before we leave, maybe I'll come home after cruise and come back later.. I have to do cat litter boxes, clean turtle tanks, bathe the dogs....blah blah blah. I told him " Better yet, you stay home with kids and I'll take the 3 extra tickets, call some girlfriends and have a GREAT TIME !!" He shut right up.

I'm fairly certain the voltage on the boat is 120V. Granted possible more chance of power anomolies on the boat but you could use your devices on the boat. I thought I read on another thread that all the rooms got flat screens in drydock and have inputs now?

I foiund an Elizabeth Swan outfit for DD to wear but DH and I most likely will not dress up. I am not that into costumes, which is why I am wearing scrubs for Halloween. :lmao:

Sounds like a plan!! Instead of a "gir's night out" we can do a "girl's cruise out" and leave the boys at home so we can get a well deserved vacation.!!

My DH and 2 DS's haven't lifted one finger in preparation for this cruise. The payback is all the spa treatments I am getting on the ship!!

Heh,heh,heh... It sounds like the guys plan is working perfectly! If only you knew!

I was booked with Florida Tours too, I'm glad it was mentioned on here or I never would've confirmed and realized there was a problem until the last minute. I booked with Happy Limo, got them from mousesavers.com. I took the van, totally cheaped out on the Limo, didn't want to go for the extra $100
Hope it all works out.

I booked the Seven mile Beach day in Grand Cayman and Dolphin Swim in Cozumel. I guess we'll explore on our own in Key west, maybe the Trolley tour.

We are doing Captain Marvins 1/2 day snorkle tour on our own in GC
May be renting an electric car in Key West.

Ocean View Explorer tour in Cozumel.
