If I were to stay in Halifax how long of a drive to Fort Louisbourg?

Can you name some other attractions or landmarks that you would consider must sees.

Thanks.

I am a Nova Scotian living in Ontario. I spent a lot of time around Louisbourg, my grandparents lived in Main a dieu. The Fortress of Louisbourg is on Cape Breton Island. I would plan to take a couple of days to explore the Island--it is breathtaking.

But to answer your question I would estimate 5 hours. Theres a wonderful miners museum in Glace Bay--another beautiful town (although I was born there so I am biased!).

Yeah, Tracy, I would have guessed 5 or 6 hours as well. It's an hour an a half from Halifax to my parent's home (between New Glasgow and Antigonish), and about another 3-4 from there to Louisbourg. Sadly, I have never been there nor around the Cabot Trail.

Thanks ladies.

Ouch 5 hours. Maybe we would be better off driving straight to and staying in Cape Breton?

From Kitchener we are almost exactly 24 hours to Main a dieu (near Louisbourg). Thats with stops and picnics along the way. I would plan to spend some time in Cape Breton but also you don't want to miss the Halifax area....its lovely as well. Happy Planning!

Thanks Tracey:thumbsup2

So it looks like I will be about 22 hours from here.

Heya Hockey Mom

Non stop from Halifax to Fortress Louisbourg is about 4.5 to 5 hours. But there are many things along the way to stop and see once outside of Halifax.

If you haven't already ordered the free "Doer's & Dreamer's Travel Guide" which comes with a Nova Scotia map, it's a must have for knowing where what and when the butter is melting on the lobster ;) http://www.destination-ns.com/forms/guide.asp

Hope you have a great trip!

Sorry I took so long...I just saw your post!

Last time we drove it took us about 15 hours, but that was with 2 kids which meant we stopped about every 2 hours. Somebody in my family always need to pee (wait, that's usually me!).
