Nova Scotia/PEI/New Brunswick ABD pre-trip thread and questions.

Ugh. What a stressful night you must've had.

You should be eligible for compensation by filing with AC (mechanical issues are deemed within their control, alas AC loves to deny claims, which you can and should fight if they do).

When Lufthansa cancelled my flight to Edinburgh in March I filed for compensation and (eventually, after prodding them several times and filing a claim with their regulatory body, then having to follow-up, but I digress) received 750 Euros. Other than the stress and 2 very tight connections (in Heathrow and Frankfurt) it worked out and I got an extra night in Edinburgh. I only had a few hours notice of the cancellation and I had to get myself to the airport in a matter of hours (was supposed to fly the next day -- good thing I'm always packed a day in advance).

I'm looking to your trip report! Safe travels :)

I'll definitely look into the compensation. Right now I'm just focused on getting to Quebec City. Just finishing hour four of my five and a half hour layover in Newark. So far, knock wood, on time.
I did have a stressful night and morning. But I'm halfway there. Of course, my tankless hot water heater dying on me 10 minutes before my ride to the airport arrived did NOT help. But everyone has been very kind to this stressed-out traveler. (I made an appointment with the HVAC folks for right after I get back). Sigh!

Yay!!! I have arrived. 7 hours late, but the room, while on the small side is pretty and spotless. Unpacking just enough, then heading TO BED! Tomorrow is another day!

Enjoy the trip-- I'll be watching for your trip report!

Thanks! ❤️
Hooray! Hopefully that's the whole trip's stress all at once and the rest is easy peasy!
Thanks! Boy, I hope you're right! :)

I'll do my best! 😉
And this is why I’m all about pre-days! You just never know.

Now get some sleep, and have fun.
Oh, me, too! Although I'm starting to second guess doing pre-days not at the ABD start location! I really wanted ABD there to pick me up when I arrived late!! 😁

Well, after a fabulous pre-week in Quebec City and Montreal, I have arrived for my pre-days in Halifax! Got myself a good deal on a Harbour-view room, and for a fee, they are allowing me to stay in it for the day 1 ABD stay. Noisy family next door, hopefully it's just because it's early evening. Off to get some food! I'll report more later.

Beautiful day in Halifax! I gave myself a lovely, leisurely morning, and currently having lunch at Tim Hortons as an homage to arriving here.

And I found out on fb that Kira will be one of the Guides on my ABD!

You should walk to Cow's for some ice cream after dinner. And enjoy a stroll along the waterfront while enjoying your cone. Or just sit on a bench and do some people watching.

And I found out on fb that Kira will be one of the Guides on my ABD!

The same Kira who guided the New Zealand trips that we were both on?

I'm confused. My ABD Canadian Rockies guides said Canada has its own set of ABD guides, since Canada requires that both guides are Canadian.

Done 2 out of 3 (No Cow's ice cream, but strolled the waterfront yesterday evening and this afternoon, and sat on an Adirondack chair and people & water watched!)

Yep. The same Kira who did New Zealand. I was surprised, too! I guess she's originally Canadian/dual citizen or something? She didn't really answer when I asked her about it on Messenger, but someone else on fb asked if she was using her Canadian passport. I'll let you know when/if I get clarification.

Well, I'm home! SUCH a fun time! I will be starting my trip report soon. :P And I ended up having Cow's ice cream 3 times! Yumm!

And to answer the question, Kira's Mother is Canadian, which qualifies Kira for dual Canadian citizenship and a passport. So she's allowed to do the tours!

Our other Guide was Josh. Super sweet guy, and a really great Guide. They worked so well together!
