Noticing high read counts on the boards lately

From our perspective the number of posts we can see is reduced when some are started by "ignored' posters and the fact that many threads are now on a private board that we haven't joined.

Notwithstanding that, the Dis remains part of our daily routine and is the only "social media" to which we subscribe!!

I suppose I could go back over and over to show the prior norm v now but why bother, if people don't want to see a thing they will not see the thing:confused3
There's really only a couple of possible answers...

1) All the views are "real". Whether it's the subject matter or more people finding the Dis CB, the threads are generating looks.
2) A large portion of the current views are "fake". Either bots 'looking' for somewhere to post or the software has been manipulated to show more reads than there actually are.

My money is on #1. Is #2 a possibility? I guess, but what's the end game/downside?

Is it "interesting"? Maybe mildly. Am I concerned about it (even if #2 is the reason)? Absolutely not.

Agreed, these are my guesses too.

As for the end game of 2, analytics reports are used for all sorts of reasons, mainly internal. However they are also used to show value to an external when a financial transaction is being proposed. For example when influencers are being selected for brand deals, the advertising and marketing departments will ask for things like follower and engagement numbers.

No idea if the number of reads is up or not - but would not be surprised if its an AI or several reading the threads and learning.

Luv, I'm assuming you're talking about the view count under the replies, right. I always thought that was how many people open the thread to read it. Well I went to Slo's poll today. It was at 57 views. I went ahead and opened it 5 different times and it still read 57. My take from that is....... I don't count. :o :confused3 :teeth:

My recollection, Kitty, from years back, was that there was some time lag between opening and registering.

Google AI is on it. I did a search, and this was on the AI overview with a link to this thread:

  • Recent high view counts observed: Some users have recently observed high view counts, raising questions about whether they represent authentic human viewers or bots.
  • Discussion on view count validity: There have been discussions about the unusually high view counts observed, and some users have questioned their accuracy.
Who knows how many Googlebots "view" the threads.

Don't really notice or care if post/thread counts are up/down compared to last month/last year. There are probably hundreds/thousands of forums around and their popularity comes/goes depending on their focus, how many followers they have and which topics are popular to discuss. People who join here to mostly learn about Disney probably move on once they have gotten all of the info they were looking for. The same Disney topics are discussed over and over and unless it is a newer topic like LL, the same discussion seems to take place each time. Others stay for various topics of interest to them. I really could care less 'what day of the week' someone else's trash is collected so those types of threads are of no interest to me. The 'ignore' feature is one of the best options on this site..............LOL.

I belong to several non-Disney forums and the activity level comes/goes at those sites just like it does here.
