Noticed a strange thing with a split stay

I am planning a trip for 2006, and I was just getting some sample rate quotes to help with the funding aspect. We want to stay at AKL, but we enjoyed CSR last year. The pool, grounds and theming are great.

So I thought that I would save a little money by splitting a 10 night stay evenly, 5 AKL and 5 CSR. But the rates, when combined, were almost $100 more than staying at AKL for all 10 nights. And the difference got worse if I did 6 AKL/4 CSR and so on.

I won't let $100 change my plans regarding the split stay, but does this situation sound correct?

Thanks.

edit: These rates were obtained from the website.

is when you're planning over a rate changeover period? If so, say you started your AKL reservation on one day, the next day the rates increase due to the season (value to regular for example), your whole AKL ressie will stay at the 1st season's rate, but if you start a new stay after the next season has begun, then you'll be quoted rates for that season.
does that make any sense??:earseek:

Yeah, that makes sense. But the only parameter I changed was the resort, i.e. I used the same dates (5 nights) for the quote.

It may have something to do with a type of volume discount. The longer you stay, the cheaper the per night cost, especially at a deluxe. There may be some kind of break point with the UPH tix.

For instance, the Dream Maker pkg for 10 nights at AKL was about $4,800 with a Savannah view. For 8 nights the cost was around $4,100. That's a $700 difference for 2 nights when the first quote averaged out at $480/night.

It probably does have something to do with the UPH, after all. Room rates are room rates. The only "variable" is the UPH. The 10 night UPH must have some sort of price break advantage over "two" 5 nighters.

Are you quoting room only or with a package? If you do 2 packages, you are paying for UPH's twice on the switchover day. The UPH prices per night go down if you stay more nights. A 10 night UPH is $461.17, while a 5 night is $275.64. So $275 x 2 = $550.
