Nothing available in early October?

Am I doing something wrong? I can't believe that all the hotels I've tried are booked up in early to mid October. I keep trying to book, or should I say price, the differences between Art of Animation, Coronado Springs Resort, and Caribbean Beach Resort. It shows the rack rate, and then when I select whichever discount I'm trying to go for (room/ annual pass if offered), it says it's not available for our group size or date.

I have a friend who tried to book from Oct. 1 - 4 or I should say re-book and all the free dining options were booked solid. I didn't think it was such a busy time frame but maybe with the free dining people have made a bunch of reservations "just in case". Good luck in getting a resort that you want!

Food and Wine starts in Late September and rolls through November -- that does limit room availability given the popularity of the event.

For early October, some (and probably not all) of the draws to WDW are:

- Free Dining promotion through 10/2
- Food & Wine Festival
- An ever increasing number of school systems with Fall Break the first couple of weeks of October
- A very popular IT convention at one of the EPCOT resorts
- A marathon (or half-marathon - not sure) involving DHS
- Columbus Day weekend

We booked our Wilderness Lodge stay from 10/3 through 10/11 about 6 months ago. We've since been trying to find discounts for our stay at WL, and no dice (unless we're willing to switch to some other resort). We haven't been able to get a good discount for years in that timeframe, and not for lack of trying.

Well, that kind of stinks. I have never been in this timeframe before, so I didn't realize all that was going on. I mean, I like F&W, and have been when it's going on, but it's not that big of a draw for me. I guess it would probably draw a lot of locals though. I had forgotten about the marathon. I will keep searching, and if nothing opens up I will try it for later when we normally go.

Yeah, I'm having the same problem. I had no idea that October was so packed and now I'm stuck going then.

All rooms are available throughout the summer and other times, but everything is sold out for when I want to go, at least everything I wanted. In addition, it's next to impossible to get a discount for this time, yet for other times, like the whole summer and September, not only are rooms available, it's easy to get a discount.

I'm pretty sure mid October may be the worst possible time to go to disney. Rack rates, no discounts, crowded, rooms are sold out. I was shocked by the difficulty in booking and now I know for the next time, never to plan a trip for October at disney.

Last years bounceback was through Oct. 2..That is how I chose the 2nd as my arrival date.
